When DD and I were discussing names for or then-future dog, we liked patriotic kinds of names: Liberty or Independence for a girl, Justice for a boy. We are just not fond of using "people names" for a pet, no offense. No flames; it will hurt my feelings(!?)

It turned out that we adopted an adult dog from another family, so he already had a name: Jake!! We love him anyway...

I agree with you about avoiding human names for doggies, unless they are kinda whimsical or not commonly used anymore. I can't imagine calling a dog, Mike (my name). What an insult!!!
