Renee- that would make me so mad. My mom is really good about watching Badookie but it is her first grandchild so may that is why.
.
Um- mine are her only two... :confused3 I'm just special! :rotfl2:

I have gone over 500 posts! I am officially a crazy DISer:banana:
 Oh, want to see Crazy? We joined about the same time. Look at my number. It screams "GET A LIFE!"

Tina, Kara & Pam - hope that you stay safe with all the bad weather out there!

Kara - when are you leaving? Ally's going with you - right?

Tammie - I know what you mean about anesthesia - Ally has to have one of her ear tubes surgically removed in September and she has to go under anesthesia. She had a horrible time when she woke up 3 years ago when she had her tonsils and adenoids removed, and tubes put in. So we're hoping she does better this time.

I'll definitely keep little Mason in my prayers!!!

Have a great time with Londynn's party! I love that name, and it's spelled so pretty!

I just texted Cammie so I'll keep y'all posted on Amanda....

Thanks! I'm sorry Ally has to have surgery, but it should be so much better for her afterwards.

Wow! More storms today - my office just got so dark, and the thunder is a rumblin!

Cammie just replied with, "which control freak is this?" :rotfl2:

That's us! :thumbsup2

Cammie is heading home with Amanda!!!!! She just called about 5 minutes ago!

:yay: :yay: :yay: So happy to hear it! Thanks for updating!

Great news about Amanda! I am so glad to hear that. Cammie - my thoughts and prayers are with you!!

I wish that WE would get some of the rain from Dolly! Nothing in the forecast thru Sunday!

Hi all! I hope that everyone is doing great, and is having a wonderful summer!

I will not try to catch up on past posts
I will not try to catch up on past posts
I will not try to catch up on past posts

What I will try to do is stay connected, trying to pop in once a day to say hello and catch a little of what is going on. I miss you all when I am not here, and think of you all often.

Wow! I need to update my ticker! No trips planned for now. :sad2:

I am reading the Jan Karon Mitford series right now, and am loving it, but am having some trouble keeping up w/all of the characters (kind of like here!? ).

The girls are at my parents' this week, so we have a quiet week at home. We should be catching up on some house projects and chores, but NO, we are lounging, watching movies (uninterrupted), and I've been sewing and reading (uninterrupted). Thursday night is our date night - margaritas and Mexican food! It's a win all - we're having fun, and so are my parents and the girls, but I miss them, despite all of the uninterrupted activity!!

:grouphug:
Pam2

Pam! It's so great to hear from you! Don't worry too much about catching up, just join in!

Tammie- You do have a ton of energy. Poor Mason. I feel so bad. I will keep him in my thoughts. I love Londynn's name and the spelling.
As for reading I have not done that since before Luca was born. When I was Pregnant I read all the time. I had to go for non stress tests once a week so I always had a few hours to read.
I would love to start a book club it would force me to pick up a book.

Thanks Jillian! Some day you will actually have time to read - I'll let you know when that is for me! :rotfl2: I like to read to get sleepy - guess what I read now - yep - TRs! :lmao:

I ordered a Stitch DVD off ebay. Won it for .99, they advertised prioriy mail for $5. It took almost 2 weeks after they sat on it for 6 days. Then the DVD shows up regular mail and the DVD itself is scratched to heck and back, skips like crazy. What a PITA. So I guess before you leave negative feedback you have to email the seller. I was rather nasty. Stating I was disappointed and felt they had really misrepresented their product. At this point I'm not returning it - my goodness, I'll pay more than .99 in postage. Personally, I think they got Pi$$y that it went for .99. :headache:

This same thing happened to me. Except it was Beauty and the Beast. It was a bootleg copy of the movie, all blurry and grainy. Except I think it cost me about $12 with shipping. Turns out the seller was kicked off ebay cause I don't think I was the only one who had a problem. Since then, I only buy from sellers who have at least 100 transactions and at least a 99% positive rating.

I'm reading Vince Flynn- kind of like patriot games and DiVinci Code. He's a local author. Cannot put the book down.

I'm sure you've read John Sandford? The detective series about a cop in Minneapolis/St Paul?

Here's proof I'm nuts. I am going to be the Treasurer for the school PTO next year. I just fell into it. Yikes. NOthing like adding more work to the pile. :)

Wow! You really ARE nuts! :rotfl2:

I guess we all had a reason to find each other. It's like we're family (okay just the good kind not the kind that makes bad faces at you ;)

Hey, you all KNOW that I'm the "family" member who makes faces at y'all through my computer screen, right? :lmao:

Oh, want to see Crazy? We joined about the same time. Look at my number. It screams "GET A LIFE!"

Tina, Kara & Pam - hope that you stay safe with all the bad weather out there!

Kara - when are you leaving? Ally's going with you - right?

We're gonna try to leave around noon tomorrow. If all the planets line up correctly and we can get out on time.

OK, y'all, I am officially the WORST Mother of the Year! Yesterday when I picked Ally up from camp, I told her in no uncertain terms that she MUST get her room cleaned up. Her bath towel was laying on the floor, there were dirtly clothes all over the floor, not to mention toys everywhere.

So I go upstairs to put clean sheets on her bed and she is laying in front of the TV, sucking her thumb (another no-no) and she jumps up and says, "oh, I need to pick up my clothes." Well, I walk in her room and it is destroyed!!!

So I go downstairs and tell Jeff that I'm seriously thinking of not letting her go to the beach today with the summer campers. It's their field trip this week, for a sand castle building contest. I ask Jeff if that's too harsh - cause we really have to start buckling down with her. She needs to learn consequences, and we've been too weak with her, and she's beginning to know it, I think. At this rate she'll be on Jerry Springer by 16, "Girls Gone Wild" by 18!

OK, maybe that's a bit dramatic, but still. So my totally supportive husband says, "do what you want but I'm not involved." WTH? He thinks he's always the bad guy. Whatever!!!

She comes downstairs right before bed and I tell her that she's not going to the beach today. She falls apart!!! Just sobbing. I try to explain to her that if she wants to get mad she should get mad at herself for not listening and doing what she's told, etc. As she walks upstairs, sobbing, I call out, "I love you!" and she hiccups her way through, "love -hic - you - hic - too." It was sweet.

Jeff says, "wow, she took that really bad." So I think we're going to let her go to the beach, but that's it. I'll drop her off right before they leave, and pick her up as soon as they get back. Then the rest of the day will be spent cleaning her room. No TV, no toys.

Jeff just thinks we should let her go to the beach because she never gets the chance to go with other kids. Yeah, yeah, yeah, basically he wimped out and now we're backing down. He thinks she's suffered enough last night and now she knows we're serious about doling out the punishment.

OK, y'all will laugh at this (I hope!). Yesterday I see a strange number on my cell phone, so I just send it to voice mail. When I check my messages, I hear what I'm thinking is Carmella Soprano and I"m thinking, "holy crap, I'm gonna get whacked!" Turns out it was Cammie, but I've lived in the south for way too long, apparently!!! Not used to the other accents out there. You know I'm kidding Cammie!!!! Love ya, mean it! And I hate that I missed your call!

And just for the record. Debbie is the only one who can claim no accent. Isn't that right??? Chicago is how they train news anchors to sound!!!

Great, now they're linking cell phone use to cancer.... again!

Hey, Cammie!
2.gif
I see you!

OK. When I get back on here, I am hooked. Oh well!

Kara - Have fun on your trip - a beach trip? Sounds wonderful! I'm behind. Is this an adults only trip? Ally is going to the beach w/others?

My girls are with my mom and dad all week. My mom took vacation from work to be with them. We had the first grandchild, but now there are 3 on my side and 5 on DH's side. MIL and FIL are retired, so they can, and are willing to, keep them any time. I am not trying to rub it in, but we are truly blessed that way. Renee, I wish that for you. But, there is still, after all of these years, some competition and jealousy between the grandma's, which can be frustrating. MIL asks when she can keep the girls, and we don't let her as often as she would like to. They are just so busy now, with activities. My mom sometimes seems like it's a burden - she has to take a day off work to clean house after they stay for a weekend because she didn't have her regular cleaning/laundry/ironing day, but then seems upset when she hears about the girls staying with ILs. This summer, she asked me if she could take a week's vacation and have the girls stay with her, so they are. It is just so much easier w/ILs because they don't work. Megan just turned 15 and is really starting to let me know that she does not like to be there for a week because it keeps her away from friends and social activities. I can't say I blame her, but we don't do it that often. This would have been a week of summer w/no planned activities during the day, so they would have just been home, and I would have paid someone to come in and do something w/them one day, I would have come home for lunch one day (LONG drive, LONG lunch), MIL would have picked them up to take them to lunch/shopping or movie, I would have done 1/2 day vacation, etc. We haven't had very many of those weeks. Next week is vacation bible school at church, and Megan is teaching and Taylor attending. I will drop them in the AM on way to work, and someone will bring them home. It takes 1/2 of their day, so the rest of the day they are OK to stay home and chill. The following week, Megan starts a 2-wk band camp, which are 2 times a day!, AM and PM - 6:45-1:30pm and 7-9pm! I haven't figured out yet what I will do w/Taylor. It is so dang hot! and I worry about those kids being out there, marching. Band will control our lives thru the end of football season. We feel bittersweet about it. I am looking forward to the Friday Night Lights!:cheer2: , but not the crazy schedule and driving back and forth. She has to be at school at 6:20am every AM! I will shower, take her, then come back home to finish getting ready for work and take Taylor to school. We will carpool.

Jillian - How fun to be trying for a baby! :cloud9: Lucky you! I just have to enjoy my neice, who is 6 mos BTW, and is at a really fun age! My girls get to see her this week. I hope to Sat, when I pick them up from Mom's.

Tammie - You read to fall asleep? I have the disease that if I sit down for a minute, I can't keep my eyes open. I can go, go, go until really late, but if I park myself, even as early as 7pm, I can't stay awake. I try to keep on my feet, but if I do sit, I cannot just watch tv or a movie. I have to be playing an electronic game or stitching. I will fall asleep when I read, but I can read for awhile if it's not too late.

Date night tonight - yoo, hoo!

We aren't getting any rain from hurricane Dolly. None in the forecast - only over 100 temps for Sat, Sun and Mon!!

OK - I am a self confessed rambler.

Good morning friends!

WE'RE HOME!!!!!

We were discharged yesterday afternoon. I'm so proud of Amanda - I could just bust. I'm telling you, don't every underestimate the strength of your children!:goodvibes

The surgery was a success although the inside of her mouth looks like a hand grenade went off in there!:scared: Doc extracted 11 teeth and quarterized alot of gum; all of her teeth are exposed now and hopefully with the extra gum gone, they will now move into the proper position. He really thinks we've eliminated a major source of pain and discomfort for her and is thinking she's going to be like a different kid from here on in. Amanda was always prone to periods of irritability in the past and I never knew why. He thinks she may have been experiencing mouth pain so we'll just wait and see. In the meantime, she did start to become more uncomfortable as the day went on yesterday and the doc thinks she still may have some pain issues through the weekend. We're going to manage it with Motrin and Tylenol w/codeine and hope they do the trick. It certainly worked yesterday. The doc is such a nice and caring man - he gave me his home phone #, cell phone # and two other numbers to reach him on if there are any problems over the weekend.:thumbsup2

So Amanda is at her dad's. The early discharge took us all by surprise and I couldn't get a nurse to work here last night. Since I didn't get much sleep at the hospital on Tues., my ex had Amanda come home with him - which, of course, I feel bad about because I want her with me. But I know it's good that he handle some of this also. He's just making me nervous - he's already so confused with the timing of when to give the pain meds - and this is AFTER I've already wrote it all down! Anyway, she'll probably spend part of the day with me today and tomorrow while he works, but she'll actually stay with him throughout the weekend.

Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and prayers! I'm thinking it's why we got such an early discharge!:)

Renee & Kara - Thanks for keeping in touch and giving updates. I'm sorry I got BOTH of your voicemails yesterday - would have been fun to talk! Kara - I was truly perplexed when I got your text yesterday; had no idea where the 904 area code was from so I didn't know who it was texting me. Of course, I assumed it was somebody from here; hope you're not offended I didn't recognize your number. I think I'll program everyone's cell #s into my phone today to help eliminate further confusion.

Ok - I got a reallly good night's sleep last night; Lauren is still sleeping so I'm off to catch up on the posts I've missed. Will be back later!

Also want you guys to know - the balloons and teddy bear made the trip into the hospital with us. I had a lot of bags to bring but Amanda was able to hold onto the teddy bear in her wheelchair (although the balloons kept hitting her in the face - it was kind of funny!)

They then followed her to the holding room before surgery and then stayed at her bedside in ICU. She was holding onto them when we left yesterday so I just let her take them with her to her dad's. The bear really is nice and soft and she LOVES looking at those balloons!:lovestruc

OK. When I get back on here, I am hooked. Oh well!

I know! I'm the same way...

Kara - Have fun on your trip - a beach trip? Sounds wonderful! I'm behind. Is this an adults only trip? Ally is going to the beach w/others?

No, it's a family trip this weekend. We're just driving to Clearwater, about 4 hrs away. Today she is going to Jacksonville Beach with her summer camp. I know she has been so looking forward to this - going to the beach with a group of kids. It broke my heart last night when she was sobbing after I told her she couldn't go. So now she is upstairs cleaning her room. I'll take her to camp around 11:30 so she can leave for the beach with them at noon.

My girls are with my mom and dad all week. My mom took vacation from work to be with them. We had the first grandchild, but now there are 3 on my side and 5 on DH's side. I know what you mean about the grandparents being competitive. With us it's the grandfathers. Drives me nuts!

So glad she liked them! Remember, there will be more bright balloons coming on Friday for her!

You're not the worst mom of the year - sometimes the only way our kids are going to "get" it is when we resort to taking away something precious. I know how you feel - I used to feel so guilty when I took something from Lauren that she really, really, really wanted to do. She'd been devasted for a day, then realize her mistake, and it wouldn't happen again! Stick to your guns!

OK, y'all will laugh at this (I hope!). Yesterday I see a strange number on my cell phone, so I just send it to voice mail. When I check my messages, I hear what I'm thinking is Carmella Soprano and I"m thinking, "holy crap, I'm gonna get whacked!" Great, now they're linking cell phone use to cancer.... again!

Ok, I really shouldn't be catching up on post backwards, but I did and I just have to respond because this cracked me up!

When I moved up here and started work, my co-workers told me I sounded like a less-whiny Fran Drescher (from The Nanny)! And, it was so shocking to me because I seriously don't think I have an accent! Everyone else does - but not me! There ain't nothin' wrong with the way I tawk! :snooty:

So she's been upstairs "cleaning" for 3 hours. All she has done is close her dresser drawers, clean out her Barbie house, and pick up a few things from the floor. Seriously, is this normal? I'm about to lose my mind!

Kara - okay sweetie - tough love here. YOU HAVE REALLY GOT TO STOP THAT. I can tell you that, because by far that is my biggest issue. I get so mad for days that he isn't doing something that I boil over and really threaten him with something I CANNOT do to him. SO, he is learning that Mom doesn't go through with what she says. Carlos has never done that. Outside that, we pretty much handle them the same. He has a fear of Carlos like you wouldn't believe. Me - not so much. Know why? I constantly make idle threats. At 4 he has already picked that up. I read Super Nanny's book - and that was one of the big no-no's she addressed. What I try to do is ask myself before it comes out of my mouth - CAN I LIVE WITH THIS. Because honestly, if I say no, it is pointless. I preach all this as my kid who got told he wasn't getting anything yesterday is sitting in the floor playing with his new cash register... :rolleyes1 :rotfl2: :lmao:

Cammie -Camilla was too harsh, and actually unlike the chick at the shop, I could understand you!!! :rotfl2: I mean, I didn't need you to spell any words! :lmao: :lmao: I just try to keep my mouth shut about accents because Ya'll know living in the South we don't have that problem here! :rolleyes1 :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Glad Amanda is feeling better and doing so well. :goodvibes

SO... I wacked all Mia's hair off yesterday. She had a bad combover thing going. Long on top crown, but short everywhere else, so I had them cut it the same lenght all over. She is enjoying it, but it is about 2-3inches long everywhere. That top part was 12 inches long or better - so you can understand why it is hard to get use to. She seems to like it not being in her face or having to wear a ponytale which she hates!

Man - I have so much to do today. I'll try to be back on later - but more likely than not, I'll be on a lot today - trying to avoid all the things I need to do!!! :rotfl:

I know that a lot of times that the punishment we dole out hurt us much worse than it hurts them. It hurts us just to see them hurting so much, but we do need to stick to our guns as much as possible. I tend to mouth off a punishment, then have regret later. I need to get better about telling them that I need to think about their punishment.

I've lived in TX since I was 12 and when we visited from MI before moving here w/my cousins from IL, we roared when we heard the "natives" talking. I now am the proud owner of a TX accent! When visiting relatives in IL, we are told that we sound like southern belles. Aw shucks! I LOVE the English, Australian, Irish, New Zealand accents!

Cammie - great about your dr! That makes all of the difference in the world. He doesn't look like a McDreamy or McSteamy, does he?? Just kidding. A good bedside manner is wonderful, esp w/the kids. It just makes it easier.

Kara - have fun at the beach!! Do you DIS while you're there? It's become somewhat of a power struggle at times w/Megan and I about her room. How dare I enter her room while she is gone to collect dirty clothes or empty hangers? It depends on her mood (and mine, too!).

Slow day at work, but I have to...

Hiya all -

sounds like Amanda is doing well, so happy for you Cammie....

Also sounds like kids are the same the world over!! Mine are on a punishment right now for not quietening down at night - they quibble and shout at each other past 9pm - they go up at 7.30... So I did the "if I have to come up once more" thing...... so we are not going to see Wall -e this weekend. If they do it again tonight, they won't be seeing it at the cinema at all! We stick to our guns, (well with one warning so they remember...) so I know they will be quiet tonight.... it means too much to them.

I do feel mean, but hey, I'm the grown up here - I'm mummy - the one who gets to set the rules... , not their best friend, so I guess things get to be tough some times.... and the kids behave better for it. Philosophy according to tessa.....:goodvibes

Our weather has also gone crazy 80deg here , only just lower than Florida... but of course, us Brits don't "do" air conditioning - being as it would only be used about 5 days a year! and we are so environmentally cautious these days.... it is soooooooo funny, our government trying to get us to use the car less, turn off the house lights etc, yet in florida there were stores (even in our favourite place WDW) with air con on full and doors open permanently - trying to cool down the world I guess....

hey ho, I'm off to cook - chicken, garlic (LOTS!!), pasta, veg, all in a cream and cheese sauce...... lots of leftovers to use up:goodvibes!

Tessa

Kara - Yep sure enough, I misread the feedback number. Instead of 98.2 it is 92.8. DUH! 2nd email to them. I mean they actually advertised priority shipping and then mailed it parcel post (in a priority bag turned INSIDE OUT!) I sware if I was a nasty person I'd turn it in the the post office.

I basically sent them a 2nd email calling BS on what they said - quoted their posting. I hate being nasty. I hate leaving nasty feedback - never done it before since 2000. THIS ONE IS GETTING IT!

Thanx for all the child rearing advice. But I'm a sucker, and I know it. I let her go to the beach today. But I did make her stay upstairs and clean all morning. I know that I need to think these things through better. It's just so hard to take something away from her that I know she REALLY wants to do. I have no problem taking away toys, or whatever.

But our next step is telling her she can't spend the week with Jeff's parents (actually, they may not be able to keep her anyway, so it would work out and I couldn't wimp out!!!).

I love accents! So much so that I tend to pick them up really easy. When we used to go to Minnesota every summer for two weeks to visit family, I'd come back talking like Frances McDormand in "Fargo," der dontcha know. Drawing out my O's. Uffta! Right, Laura?

Then we move to SC, and I pick up "y'all" right away. Great word, y'all. And did y'all know that it is singular AND plural? Yup, I'm just a wealth of knowledge, huh?

But I can honestly say that I have never been to the northeast, so I can't speak for the accents there. I can only imagine though, that Cammie was driving in her "cah" when she called me??? :rotfl2: The only thing I know of NE accents is the Sopranos, and Boston Rob from Survivor! :confused3

And then of course I love the British accent. We have so butchered the English language. I can just imagine dropping Tessa off in NYC and Erin in rural SC and see them have fits! :rotfl2:

OK, anybody ever used those "green bags" they advertise on TV to keep produce fresher longer? Jeff wants to buy them. We waste so much produce!!!

Cammie - are you having severe weather? I see stories about severe weather and tornados damaging 150 homes in NH. Again, I"m no geography expert and I don't know the NE, so I don't know how close you are to this! Be careful though!

First of all, my Joisey accent is so much more dignified than the horrific Bahston accent!:snooty:

And, yes, we're getting crazy weather. Yesterday there were actual tornado warnings for the southeastern part of the state. Of course, this was just as we were discharged so we got to drive through it!:scared: Today, it can be sunny one minute, then completely dark and pouring the next!

Kara - Wanted to thank you for putting an update on Amanda on my TR. There are some people over there that I have gotten friendly with and I know they appreciated being updated. :thumbsup2
