Ally did great and I was very impressed with the way this hospital handled it! I liked it so much better than the surgery center we went to back in SC 3 years ago when she had her tonsils and adenoids out, and ear tubes in.
I saw her eyes start to well up and her lip started quivering right after she changed into her gown and the nurse was getting all our info. After that, she was okay. The doctor called us from the OR about 10 minutes into the surgery to get our permission to cut her ear drum because when she removed the tube she found that the ear drum had closed up, and she needed to check for fluid behind it. So sad that she couldn't just do it, but needed to call us in the waiting room to get our okay. Too many lawyers apparently.
But the doctor was great, the nurses were all great, so I was very pleased.
We got to the hospital at noon for her 2pm surgery. They took her away from us at 1:55, the doctor met us afterwards at 2:25 and we were with Ally a few minutes later. So it was about a 20 minute surgery - no bid deal. And she handled the anesthesia MUCH better than the last time. Aside from throwing up on me when she started drinking her juice.....
But the poor thing hadn't eaten since 9 last night - so actually none of us ate cause we couldn't very well eat in front of her.
Then we went to Golden Corral afterwards. Oh my, what an interesting experience that was. First, the nurse told us to gradually increase her food today, start with liquids etc. But Ally was hungry, and after she threw up, she drank all her juice and she was fine.
So we found a Golden Corral, which is a big buffet that obviously caters to those who like buffets. Normally I don't like them, but this one was always good in Spartanburg, and since I hadn't eaten all day, I figured I could do some damage today.
OMG! WE got there right at 4pm, and that's when the dinner menu started. There was a $3 difference between lunch and dinner and they had a
security guard seating people there! I guess all the blue hairs had some rumbles with the cashiers trying to get the lunch prices or something. The place was packed!!!
It was
Walmart all over again. No, it was Dollar General. No, I don't know what it was. I walked up to the ice cream machine with Ally, and the woman a couple people in front of us literally had this huge bowl
overflowing with soft serve ice cream. Seriously, it had to be between 1/2 gallon and a gallon. I just happened to glance over at Jeff and he was falling out laughing. I couldn't help myself. This woman was so proud of herself!!! The guy sitting next to Jeff said that the woman comes in about 3 times a week and does that every time. Needless to say, the guy talking to Jeff was a regular, too. And needless to say, while a very entertaining dining "experience" we won't be going back any time soon.
Also, it was not in the best neighborhood, if you get my drift. We saw one guy that held the door for us and Ally pipes up with "Mommy, is he wearing pajamas?" probably within earshot. It was nuts!!!
Oh, and the food sucked, and the service - usually these buffet have "servers" who bring clean plates and silverware to your table, bring drinks, etc. Here, all they did was refill the drinks you had to get yourself at the beginning. Weird.
I haven't read everything from today and last night but I just wanted to thank you all for the prayers for Ally, and I'll check back in tomorrow!!!
