DH and I got Red Sox tickets for a game in early September. Its on a Saturday so we are going to make a long weekend of it. Can anyone recommend a really great hotel. We are looking to spend about $200 - $300 a night. Thanks!

The Royal Sonesta is awesome.http://www.sonesta.com/boston/
We go in for weekends sometimes just for fun.My sister works there and we get a discount but they run specials all the time.check the web.
It is on the Charles River next to the Museum of Science, across from the Cambridge side galleria mall where there is the Cheesecake factory retaurant (Yum).
They have a pool, health club and hot tub and a couple awesome restaurants on site.
They have free transportation to other sites like quincy market etc.
There are boat rides on the charles from in back of the mall across the street.
It is a safe, nice location. :wizard:

We spent our wedding night at the Boston Harbor Hotel and can't say enough about it. I personally prefer the city views to the harbor views, even though the city views are cheaper.

over the holidays we spent a night at Jurys. Such a cute hotel! Very reasonable. Not as luxurious as the BHH, but still very nice. Our room was small but felt very cozy.

Best location for Fenway Park is the new Hotel Commonwealth. It's a new four star hotel a half block from Fenway Park. There are lots of cute boutiques in the hotel, a fun French brasserie restaurant, Eastern Standard, and a cool lounge, the Metropolitan lounge. Here is the website:

If you want something smaller, and even more unique, there is the Eliot Hotel, a block further away from Fenway. This hotel has a great restaurant, Clio, which also has an amazing sushi bar, Uni, attached (note this is quite expensive).

GO RED SOX!!!

My personal favorites are the Marriott Long Wharf and Boston Harbor Hotel. You can take an enjoybale boat cruise out into the harbor from either of these hotels. Wow, Red Sox tickets, a nice hotel, and a September weekend in Boston...lucky you! Enjoy. :)

Longwarf Marriott & Copley Plaza.
Located in my two favorite areas-

I  love Boston, that's where I went to college.
One of the countries greatest cities!!!

Have fun on your trip, wherever you choose to stay!
Contact the convention & Visitors Bureau and check the web for specials.
AAA, too, if you belong.

Has anyone stayed at the Jurys hotel? I will be staying there this weekend.
I personally have not stayed there myself, but my 2 cousins from Ireland stayed there for a week around the New Year. From what I understand it is an Irish run hotel and it's in the former Boston Police Headquarters. I also saw it featured on Ch. 5's "Chronicle". I'm sure you'll like it !!! :thumbsup2

Every May, wife and I go to Boston for our anniversary. We live right next door in RI, and still love to stay over and make a "trip" of it. We have stayed at the following all in the Copley section which is our favorite. All were VERY nice:

The Colonnade Hotel--Got the room through priceline.com
Marriot at Copley Plaza-- VERY nice. Stayed here twice using Gov't rate.
Sheraton Boston Hotel- Very nice and attached to the mall at the Prudential Center with Cheesecake Factory etc. Got this one through priceline.com. We could see Fenway from the window of our room.

You might want to try priceline.com. You won't be guaranteed the hotel, but as you'll notice 2 of the three hotels we got through there and loved both of the hotels. We will definitely do it again.

I would also give my vote to the Royal Sonesta on the Charles River !!!! It is actually in Cambridge but you walk right over the bridge and you'll be in Boston. We (DD9 and Myself)did the 5k walk for Juvenile Diabetes during Sept. and the views over looking the Charles were so beautiful !!! Also, while you're in Boston, don't forget to book a trip on the famous "Duck Boats"...you get a sightseeing tour of the city and then float into the Charles River. You can leave from the Boston Museum of Science and that is very convient to the Royal Sonesta !! Happy Planning :thumbsup2

we're big fans of dining in the north end, so our favorite is the Boston Millenium

Thank you Meg&Minnie. This is a hotel that work picked for us. I saw where it used to be police hq. Should be interesting. Thanks for the report.

Yep, we stayed there in december and loved it. our room (a king) was very small, but it felt more cozy than cramped. The staff was very friendly. It was a great choice! The location was very nice, too. Hope you enjoy. :)

Copley Marriott or Omni Parker House

I would not rate either of these as "fabulous". The Omni in particular is very dated. There are some good rooms and some horrors. The Marriott is just a basic conference type hotel. It is usually overrun. I work in the marketing dept of a large Boston firm, so we maintain lists of preferred hotels and restaurants.

NB: I am not sure you'll get fabulous for $200 in Boston in September, as it's a peak season (college kids back, leaf peeping up north, etc...). I think you'll need to spend closer to the $300.

For my $300, here would be my choices, in no particular order.

Boston Harbor is marvelous. My firm does events there and the service is amazing. The restaurants are also great. It is not convenient to Fenway, but Boston is such a small city that it doesn't really matter.

XV Beacon qualifies as fabulous, and so does its restaurant, the Federalist. But I think you'd need to spend more like $400.

There is a boutique hotel called Nine Zero on Tremont that's very funky and contemporary. A lot of our firm's visitors like it.

The Langham is an old world choice. It used to be the Meridien but changed hands a couple of years ago. If you go there, get a deluxe room or it will be small. It's very elegant.

The Westin is at Copley and I've stayed there 2-3 times. If you haven't tried the heavenly bed and shower, you should. And I think you can get in here at the lower end of your price range. DD & I did a girls' weekend there and from our room we could see right into Fenway. It was awesome.

Last, but not least, is the Fairmont Copley Place. It's been years since I stayed here, but I heard that all the rooms were recently re-done. They have a resident labrador retriever who hangs out in the lobby with the doormen and who you can "check out" to take walks with. She's a former service dog and her name is Catie. http://www.fairmont.com/cop/catiecopley/

Good luck! And lucky you to have scored seats in Fenway!

I would say keeping in mind location, that the Copley Westin is probably your best bet.
It's comfotable, convenient to Fenway and good restaurants and shopping.
Rates could be pretty high that time of year.
