Looking for a Disney cop for a question

I do not have a problem releasing my "secret" as I think it is information that would be readily available for anyone wanting to know. I do think it may result in an interesting debate. I just didn't want to say it if the OP wanted it to be discreet but I guess I just made an incorrect assumption on what he was asking.

What I was referring to was a Law Enforcement officer carrying their firearm on Disney property. While obviously I knew that there is a no weapons policy at Disney such policies exist everywhere but quite often it does not apply to LEO's. The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act allows LEO's and even some retired LEO's to conceal carry a firearm throughout the country. This is a federal act/law and obviously would not always apply to private property but a lot of places will allow it and in fact welcome it. In the past I have contacted places before traveling to check on their rules and most of the time have been told it is fine as I think they like the idea of some extra "security". I will not name specific places that you can carry that you might not think you could but around a year ago I had just returned from a trip and saw on the news about a shooting that happened near a subway station, exactly 1 week almost to the minute from when I had been in that same exact spot. It is very common to see news about shootings in crowded places such as malls, parks (not Disney) and also not unusual to hear about and off duty officer being in the right spot at the right time to help.

I am kind of doubting that Disney welcomes LEO's with weapons and I can understand why and I'm not sure I would even take one there but you never know when and where something could happen. I carry almost anywhere I go and my main reason for doing so is to keep my family safe, once that is assured then I'll protect anyone else.

The Doughnut post was classic...thanks for the laugh.

Sorry to be vague in my posts. I know that does nothing but arouse more interest and curiosity. I'll eliminate some of the theories:

1) I'm not tracking a fugitive or anything of the sort.

2) Not worried about public consumption laws as the only drinking I plan to do is drinking half way round the world in Epcot. Antually planning on hitting every other country for a beverage. I'm too much of a lightweight to stop in each one for a drink.

3) No, I'm not looking for doughnuts. As much as I like them, I kind of swore them off once I was sworn in. Didn't want to perpetuate the stereotype and/or destroy my waistline. :)

Among other things, I mainly just wanted to know how to contact a security officer once in the parks to chat about the job as I am interested in one day working there in that capacity. It will be a long ways off though as I still have 23.5 years until retirement with the town I currently serve.

While I don't understand the American's right to bare arms issue I certainly would appreciate someone who is a trained professional defusing any potentially dangerous situation. Could have used you last year on our way home. Stopped for a quick bathroom break and refueling of both stomachs and gas when we happened upon a gentlemen walking into the McD's, walk into the back, apparently with a knife possibly drunk or on drugs, scare the pants off the staff and customers. Of course I was still in the restroom waiting my turn completly unaware of the potential danger in the front of the McD's where my DH was waiting to ensure I got out safely and my DD's refusing to leave without their dad. Had one of those other customers been an LEO it might have been a little less scarry.

yes a couple of years ago the mta in new york trying to make their system safer said if any cops can travel free on the trains and sub way as long as they bring their wepon and badge. But it dosnet work that well it still dangorus. I would call disney directly if that the case you dont want to get arrested or even call ocs office and ask them. While alot of place would like the extra secruty but i am sure disney would not want to deal with haveing to answer weapons calls in the parks because another guest see the gun and not relize your an off duty police officer. Their still places you cant go like some fedreal propertys like the va they dont allow weapons of any kind on any of their hosptail they dont allow any police other then fedreal on their property.

hrm I thought this was some secret donut hookup. Like where can one find the best stash. Not perpetuate the stereotype.

i knew that what you wanted the best shot is at bag check if you want some good one go to the world show case exit during the day and reenter. Not on the weekend because it be busy but when they are not busy you could stand their and talk to them hey ussauly two and like to talk. they are freindly one back their i think one of the gaurds is dale been going 3 year and he always there then you have the one that likes to sing to the guest. Just figure that will give you some private time with them. they also post a gaurd sometimes by the bridge from england to paris he not there all the time but during the day he stands their and answer question he looks lonley and sure he like to talk to someone. well you could transfer to the orange county sheriff office they pick up extra time at disney. mybe a part time job i see you leave in sc it my be a long commute unless you willing to move to orlando.

WDW doesn't allow anyone to carry inside the theme parks. you have the ability to check your gun at the door (i believe you'd just talk to bag check about it). no doubt it doesn't stop many from taking their guns into the parks though because there are some who will still do it regardless.

While I do completely understand the "right to bare arms" part of our legacy, I do not agree with people carrying weapons constantly. In the line of duty, yes. Using personal fire arms to protect themselves and their property, yes. To just carry them around in anticipation of something is , well, overboard and not at all what the law intended.

Honestly, in my mind, it is a sign of insecurity exhibited by the barer. I don't want to be in the same room with someone with a firearm. I don't feel safer, I feel less safe. I realize that it is a matter of personal standards, but even attempt to come into my house with a weapon and you will be asked to leave. I don't need any Rambo's in my life and it is not welcome. I did carry a weapon when I was in the military, but when my days work was done, it was no longer a part of my personality.

JMHO!

OK, I am not a copper, but after talking to a lot of our "guards".
1) Apply through CASTING dept, on-line.
2) Duties
. . . check bags at park entrances
. . . drive around (especially off shifts) showing a presence
. . . assist managers for disturbances (managers are called first, not guards)
. . . direct traffic
. . . detain shoplifters for sheriff or police
. . . if plain-clothes look for shoplifters
3) Overall, pretty mundane stuff.
. . . no arrest powers, other than detaining
. . . no weapons
4) Pay
. . . previous union contract $9.50 to start
. . . top of scale $15.13 after 10-years
. . . however, physically impossible to reach top of scale for new-hire *
. . . new contract has 3.5% increase (I think this goes for guards, also)

* The new contract has higher pay increases for newer people, because is it impossible to EVER reach the top of any pay scale. the increases now make it possible to reach the top of the scale in approx 14 years.

they also pay well and you cant be fired.

What? I'm not sure from your post exactly who you are saying cannot be fired but if that is true of ANY law enforcement position, that is just wrong. There are times when people need to be fired. What kind of job would keep someone employed no matter what they did?

(and I wasn't going to post on this thread until I read that.....)

Oh, and on a separate subject, my understanding is that originally cop or copper was used in a derogatory way against police officers. Now I don't think it's considered a negative since the original intent is so far in the past.

SORRY...but that is simply not true..where my dh works they can be fired for any reason whenever they want! They do not have a union that protects them...they keep their job based on job performance and who they tick off that day!

That's why I questioned what the other poster was trying to say. Do they really believe or know of a position where as they said you "cannot be fired"???? The poster had earlier mentioned federal officers and also training at the VA so I am unsure exactly which position they were saying you could not be fired from. I am confused what they meant.

I Have nothing but repect for ALL law enforcement personnel......they lay there life on the line for all of uS!

That said, I see no reason why anyone needs to carry a firearm into the parks..............the Disney secuirty seems able to hande whatever comes up for 39 year now!

I would certainty hope this was not a ego thing???

In addition carrying a firearm on the attractions........roller coasters, etc.........it could get loose and drop out.(dont say they can't because I have seen a firearm pop out of hoslter on *COPS*). What if some fool idiot sees it and trys to take it??......now we have a whole new very dangerous situation!

NO.sorry.there can be no reasonable reason!.leave in a hotel safe or at home!

Just my opinion!
