Long Range Korean missile aimed at Hawaii.

I do not trust china and do believe they could have encouraged this from NK.

I agree.

I'm not sure China is actually encouraging this, but they certainly are not breaking down any doors to stop it. China does not, nor has it ever, done anything that wasn't in it's best interests. I'm sure they are trying to figure out how to turn this into their best advantage before they make a move. I just hope when China becomes the world's foremost fiscal superpower and the center of world finance, we don't shake our heads and wonder how it happened. We helped them along every step of the way.

His manual for launching missles is:

I'm glad I'm not the only one who keeps wondering if their missles aren't coming from Acme Co? :lmao: :lmao:

True, this guy is a wack-job looking for attention. He wants to to be a big time player by trying to force the US into direct talks with him while his people wait by the docks to pick up the spilled pieces of rice that fall when they unload the bags from the ships. His manual for launching missles is:

"LIGHT FUSE, GET AWAY! DO NOT HOLD IN HAND!"

However, I would like to propose the idea that China is secretly encouraging these launches to see the US military reponse. I found this article in the Washington Post:

http://www.washtimes.com/national/inring.htm

True, most of the article talks about failure on behalf of the Chinese, but one statement says a lot:

What do my fellow DISers think? :confused3

I agree with you 100%. This whole scenario is in China's best interest. It distracts us and the world from China's own, very aggressive military build up. They have gone from a "brown water navy" to a "blue water navy". Why?
They can't be trusted and N. Korea would shrink in a moment if truly chastised by China. I read a very poignant story about 4 months ago about two women who escaped to China (if one can imagine escaping to China) from NK and eventually made it to the USA. They feel that they are in an unimaginable paradise.

I have faith that the concept of MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) will keep N. Korea from firing at us.

I don't. He is so crazy that as long as he thinks he will live and his bottles of cognac will stay intact, ridding himself of a few million starving people would be an up side for him!

I don't think so. He needs a country to rule over so that he can feel powerful and important.

I'm not so sure. MAD doctrine applied to the USSR during the Cold War. The post-WWII/post-Stalinist USSR was controlled by a relatively large group of people---similar to the presidential cabinet that we have here in the United States. North Korea is controlled by a dictator who teaches his people that he is a diety. The United States had full diplomatic relations with the USSR from 1933 onward while the United States has never had diplomatic relations with North Korea. The USSR was secretive, but not reclusive like North Korea.

North Korea is much more unpredictable than the USSR because it's leadership and grandstanding really come down to the selfish whims of its dictator. Clearly he does not care about the welfare of the North Korean people. Unfortunately I really can envision Kim starting a war simply because he is angered or loses face.

But seriously, until this gets confirmed by someone who's willing to go on the record, I think I'll put off panicking for a while.

Just wondering...

How would you expect that it gets confirmed by someone on the record if the only people that would have definitive knowledge of such would be people working for the North Korean dictator?

I find a small problem with this argument. If the US believed that China was indeed encouraging (or even simply not dissuading), the action of the US Government would be to shut down Chinese imports to the US. That would cripple the Chinese economy in days.

China depends alot on our economy for the success of their own.

I don't believe it - it makes no sense. That sounds like something sourced from Michael Pillsbury, this era's Laurie Myrjolie.

I also remain skeptical about Hawaiian waters being targeted until it comes from something more than what sounds like a Fox equivalent in Japan. Too much history of deliberate fomenting

I think China has to be considered in the equation in this matter. They certainly have the wherewithal to get N Korea's attention. While I would hesitate to say they encouraged N Korea to launch those missiles, at least they would have had foreknowledge and could have either stopped it or warned US (which maybe they did -who knows :confused3 ). Anything N Korea does has China's fingerprints on it IMO.

Our country living with out stuff made in China, even for a few days? Could you imagine the uproar!!!!! Dont think we will ever see that day. China could not export for a while, sit back and watch the fun. :happytv: People would freak out. I am having a hard time even finding a tent that isnt made over there! Walmart and other stores would be having a hissy, no clothes, no shoes, no electronics, we would have to live with what we already own and most americans cannot do that!

I do think China is supporting this, at a minimum that arent going to discourage it.

Our trade balance with China is so lopsided I can't even begin! And we just continue to let it happen, administration after administration. One day it will just be too late.

I don't think anyone is "worried" that Hawaii is under imminent threat. The "worry" is about the message that the "lunatic in charge" is sending to the United States and the world. He is a ruler who rules by "extortion". A wild eyed, out of control teenager who stomps his feet and demands the car keys or else!

::yes::

I think the dude is well versed with The Art of War and is acting with strategy and tactics. He's a bully, though, plain and simple.
