Hello- We will be flying to MCO from Long Island Islip airport in a few weeks (yes, Christmas nuthouse time)--and have never flown from there before.....Can anyone give me any pointers?? Best way to get there (from New Jersey), any parking tips? Anything you can think of at all that might be helpful?? (We usually fly out of PVD, BDL- but are leaving the dog with family instead of kenneling her- and I have free tix on SW- so that means Islip). Thanks for all you help- Jill

Here is the website for the airport. This should provide all the information you need. I would take LIE to exit 57 Vets Hwy. Airport is on Vets Hwy. We live in the area and fly out of there all the time. Nice, small airport. If you have any further questions, let me know.

I guess the most important question is what time of day is your flight and what part of Jersey are you coming from? Your route will make a big difference and if it's during rush hour with even the slightest hint of bad weather, think of the Raritan toll with a jack-knifed tractor trailor blocking 9 of the 10 lanes. I would take the Verranzano to the Belt Pkwy to the Southern State Pkwy route. I take this route myself alot and it usually takes me about 1 - 1 1/4 hour.

Thanks--- Our flight is at 11:00am- we are planning on being at Airport at 9:00am, leaving NJ at 6:00am so that we have LOTS of extra time :) If we get there early, we may do breakfast- any good places close to the airport (Or at least close enough so that we will have the "traffic worry" behind us??

If you're using the Long Island Expressway to get to the airport, you'll get off at exit 57, Veterans highway or rt 454. both are the same road, after you exit the L.I.E. the first light you come to is Motor parkway. Go to the next light, Veterans highway and make a right. The airport is about 7 minutes up the road on your left. There are many deli's and 3 diners between that right turn and the airport. Traffic won't be an issue. The airport is very compact and the longest walk will be from long term parking to the terminal. Southwest is the last group of doors when driving up to the terminal. You might want to unload there and then have 1 person go and park so you don't have to haul all your luggage to the terminal.

There is a Mac Donalds on the way also.

Just wanted to say if you are bringing alot of luggage, then use the curbside check in. The skycaps don't weigh the luggage. Helps if you don't weigh it at home before you go on the trip. Ours came out with just red heavy tags on them. Unlike delta who weighs everything and american who made us move stuff around to get the exact limit. Islip is a small airport and if you are not there early for your flight, seating is scarce. Don't know if you have little ones but it can be a bummer with also waiting for the southwest cattle call. I agree with the other poster, let one park while the other unloads. They have a little shuttle(like a mini school bus type) that takes you to the terminal. If you dont have too much gear, then I guess you can all get on the shuttle. You might ask someone, I am not too sure about this. We always take a car service there. We want to leave our car in the driveway so it looks like someone is home. But make sure you can loop right back into the airport. I am sorry but some people at the airport are not very helpful or friendly at all. I guess its all the security compliance stuff.
