Just curious if anyone else in this age bracket (33) has longer hair and will keep it long? I have some friends who've cut their hair and now keep it short, and I think a lot of them look great with shorter hair, but i've always liked long hair and have had long hair for a few years now.

I know at a certain age, people just expect you to cut your hair.

I know some people seem to expect women to wear their hair shorter sometime after age 30, but I never understood why. My wife Mandy (who just turned 40) still wears her hair fairly long and it looks great.

I'm 33 & would LOVE to wear my hair long, but I can't. I have fine & thin hair and the longer it gets the stringier (is that a real word?) it gets, has no body and just goes flat, it looks terrible on me. I keep mine about shoulder length or maybe a little shorter. I have gone really short and liked it, but was a pain to grow back out. When my hair is shorter, people tell me that I look younger. Anyway, back to your question, I think some people look great with long hair in their 30 & 40's, it all depends on your hair - I just can't do it.

I still have long hair, and plan on keeping it. :D I am old.

I'm 40 and I still have longish hair (below my shoulders). I have curly hair and if it was shorter I'd look like I was wearing a mop!

Now the good thing is--it helps me look younger. I still get carded.

I had really long hair then cut it. I hated it and so did my DH-he wouldn't admit it until I told him to be honest.

I'm trying to grow it out again.

I'm 32.

I am 27 and just cut my hair "short" for the heck of it not too long ago. It is several inches below my shoulder (classified as long really) and I realized how much I dislike my hair short like this... I don't plan to go this short ever again if I can help it

Elaine, what did you do to your hair? The last time I saw it, it was was beautiful. Healthy and thick and the color is great!

I suffer from hair envy. :teeth: I've always wanted to have long, thick hair, but alas my hair just won't cooperate. This describes my hair perfectly:

Oh yes... I'm 44. If I could have long hair, I would!

My hair is on the thin side also, but I get it highlighted every 8 weeks or so, and that really helps give it some body. My hair is about 6 inches past my shoulders, about the mid point of my back. I've always loved long hair, and I know that men in general have always told me to keep my hair long b/c they like long hair. I know my hairdresser would love to cut it off, because they love cutting long hair for some reason.

If I cut my hair, my husband would cry! (I like it long, as well, I don't just keep it that way to please him. :D ) I'm planning to keep it long for the foreseeable future.

I'm 33 and I have long hair and plan to keep it this way, I don't like the way I look with short hair.

I'm 43. I have very thick hair and have let it grow about 4 inches below my shoulders. It's the longest it's been since I was in my late 20's. I started using a ceramic flat iron about a year ago. I keep getting compliments from people and they always want to touch it. Last week I read a Cosmo article that said long hair for older women is great as long as it's healthy and looks good. Sounds about right to me. :)

IMO, age is totally irrelevant. I see 20 year olds with yucky stringy long hair, just BEGGING for a good haircut. If an older lady has hair that's attractive long, more power to her!

I'm 46, and have hair down to the middle my back. I straighten it when I dry it, and although I am not trying to look like a teenager by any means, I think I look younger than my age. About 3 years ago I kept going shorter and shorter until finally-chop right at my shoulders. My husband didn't speak to me for two weeks. Really.

The only time I don't think long hair is as attractive on "older" women is when it is graying. (sorry ladies) I just sort of think that it would look better either shorter or colored. IMHO, of course.:)

One of my best friends is 53 and has great long hair. I've had mine short for almost 10 years and am letting it grow back out now. It's not really long yet at all just a bob as opposed to really short and I keep getting lots of complements on it.

I'd like to say women over a certain age should cut their beautiful, long and thick hair, but that would be the jealous me talking. :p

Hair should be worn how it looks best on its owner, not how old its owner is. :) And unfortunately, mine is way too stringy (stringier??? LOL!) to be worn too long. :( Another factor is the person's size. I have a good friend who is petite and she had this very long hair, it just overwhelmed her. When she cut it shorter (not short, just shorter) she went from looking like Cousin It to the It girl! :) And I know women who have cut their long, beautiful hair only to have short hair not match the shape of their face or bodytype. I say go with whatever looks best on you. :)

My hair is down to my butt. I've always had long hair, this being the longest ever.

I do wear it up most of the time though since it is a hazard when it's down.

Age shouldn't be a factor when it comes to length of hair. Hair, like clothes or jewelry, is a statement of who you are.

I think it totally depends on the person. My ex used to complain about my hair everytime I got it cut. I'm 33 and just feel a little more professional if my hair isn't too long.
