I tried searching threads for local children's hospitals in Orlando (wanted to hear people's experiences rather than just choose one from Google). But random threads with hundreds of posts are what I'm finding. And I didn't see a sticky about them. So if anyone has an opinion, I'd love to hear them.
We are foster parents and have been given permission to take our foster daughters to Disney in May (they will be almost 18 months old). Since they are labeled medically complex (frequent issues with asthma and non-responsive to treatment all too often, combined with some feeding issues)anytime we take them somewhere we have to supply DCF with enough information that they feel we are prepared to deal with any medical issues that may arise.
I already have Turner Pharmacy on my list. Also will include information from the FDA website about bringing a bag of just their medical supplies as a carry on (I have to research this further, because part of giving them meds means we need applesauce - their Singulair granules can only be mixed with a small list of foods according to the drug insert. But I don't know if they will let me bring applesauce through security for them. And in all my times of traveling I have never looked to buy applesauce in the terminal).

Sorry for the long winded post. But having to answer to DCF for everything is stressful - they take common sense stuff and make it seem like rocket science.

So if anyone has advice on hospitals or has any info that I should include for DCF, I'd appreciate it. Hoping we won't need it, but I'm extra nervous because May is when their issues started last year.

I know this is not a Make A Wish trip but I would give Give Kids The World a call and see if they could give you any help with the hospital. granted we were on a Wish trip they were able to help us with numbers to call

My daughter has used both Nemours and Arnold Palmer. Nemours is a children's hospital but it isn't a trauma hospital and it is located near the airport. Arnold Palmer is a part of Orlando Health in downtown Orlando and is a trauma hospital.

Disney medical services is reedy creek if need to call 911 they most time go to celebration hospital that be the closet hospital to Disney world. Not children's one the other ones mentioned would be better and not to say they won't go their. It just Disney try's to get you to a hospital as quickly as they can.

Celebration doesn't have a pediatric department. I found that out when my daughter fractured her growth plate in her wrist.

Okay sorry then they won't take them their there I was just trying to say if something and hope nothing happens. They might have no choice but the ambulance will take them the nearest one that dose.

We have brought applesauce in little one serving packets. If it is a small enough package and it fits, you can put it into your 3-1-1 bag.
Most people have toiletries or liquid medications in those bags, but you can put anything liquid into the bag, as long as it is fits and is not more than 3 ounces.

You can also declare the applesauce as a 'medical liquid'. Basically, that just means you pull it out of your carry on (in a separate clear bag to keep it clean). You tell the TSA screener it is a medical liquid before it goes thru the X-ray machine. We have done both ways.

Thanks everyone, I knew I could count on the Dis for help with this! Excellent suggestions. I will be well armed with info for the social worker now. I just hope we don't need to use any of it!

The hospitals already listed are great ones, but if you have contact with the doctor's office(s), you may also want to see if they have any suggestions for physicians yo contact in Orlando.
Physicians often know or know of medical people in other areas thru conferences or training, etc.

You hopefully don't run into any emergencies, but it can be very helpful to have some contacts besides the hospitals for urgent, non-emergency needs.

We saw their pulmanologist today and I mentioned that I was going to purchase them a portable nebulizer, and that I was going to start looking into it soon. A couple hours later a service was calling to deliver one, and said insurance would cover it 100% (I assumed they wouldn't because we just got 2 in May). Now that is what I call service from the doctor!

She is going to see the girls again right before we leave to make sure that they get a thorough check before flying. I will ask if her she has any Orlando contacts at that visit. Thanks again everyone!
