Local grocery store cake?

Has anyone ordered and picked up a birthday cake from a local grocery store that they like? My niece will be celebrating high school graduation and her 18th bday, so I'd like to do something for our group of 10, but don't want to spend the money for the custom cakes and haven't been thrilled with the quality of the podium cakes.

Thanks!

Publix cakes are the BEST! I love their icing, it is so good and so different from what I can get here at home. I highly recommend their bakery.

Here's another vote for Publix. I always ask for double icing, because that's my favorite part of the cake. We've never bought a cake at a Publix in Orlando, but I'm sure they're as easy to deal with as other Publix stores are.

Are you going to bring it into a restaurant? I doubt they'd let you

Wait, you can do this? I don't get cakes at Publix (no Publix here and don't need cakes in Orlando) but I wonder if you can make this request elsewhere.

Many of the Publix locations will even just sell you tubs of frosting. I can't speak for every location, but we've been able to do this in locations in a few areas of FL. I know some people like to make their own cake, but will still use the Publix frostings to decorate (or you could just eat it by the spoonful directly from the tub :D ).

Every Publix I've ordered from has been willing to do it. I don't know about other grocery stores. It couldn't hurt to ask.

Oh my, This is dangerous information. Do you just ask the people at the bakery for a tub?

^So agree! Love that you can order them online and personalize them the past few years. We've done this many times for WDW trips. Huge, delicious, fun cakes! And the prices are very good.

Our fav store bought cake is by far Target bakery. We came across it maybe 10 years ago when we ran out of Target cake at an event & went down street to grocery bakery for more. It was so bad in comparison. We now use Target for showers, anniversaries, birthdays, everything & we've converted MANY. Don't believe me? Go buy a small one locally & give it a try, you'll know before you go.
