Aloha and welcome to Day 2 of our magical (now extricating my MIL from my memory) trip.

We had a 6:00 am wake up call from Mickey Mouse himself. I felt so special that he took the time to call me himself.

After we all showered and dressed, which took about 2 1/2 hours, (2 teenagers you remember) we headed over to Cap'n Cooks for breakfast.

Bought our refillable mugs, 7 of them for 7 of us. Makes sense right. Well, you guessed it, not to ,Not so DMIL.

Captain Cooks was very cute. Smaller than I expected. I remember POR food court was huge with tons of seating. Captain Cooks does not have a lot of seating inside, but has some nice tables outside. If you don't mind the birds and ducks sharing your food. The kids loved it. I did too. We loved sitting outside in the morning. (Even though I could feel my hair frizz by the minute)

Captain Cooks has a nice selection of breakfast stuff. Your typical assortment of cereals (all Kelloggs), a very nice bakery selection of muffins, doughnuts and pastries. They also have rolls, bagels etc. Lots of fruit, juices, drinks, jello, pudding.

Ok - enough about food - Off we go to EPCOT. Today was our first day at Epcot, so we planned an al Future World Day.

We also had a PS at The Garden Grille at the Land. One of our favorite restaurants. DH and I got re-hitched there. It was a hoot.. All the servers came over and performed a little wedding ceremony and we got to kiss to the count of 100. Then we got a certificate signed by Mickey and Minnie themselves. Very Cool

Test Track was amazing. The longest line at about 10 minutes. The baby swap is a wonderful thing. Anything the little guys can't do we baby swapped and it worked great.

My Zachary who is 2, goes on everything with us. Not a peep. He gets off one ride and say "NEXT". He is great.

The characters are a blast. Each of the kids has an autograph book and pen and they love walking up for pictures and autographs.

We left the park at about 7:00 and headed back to the Poly for a quick snack. We ordered Pizza and chicken tenders from room service. Surprisingly, the pizza was very good and so was the chicken.

Then off to the hammocks on the beach in front of Tahiti to watch the Electric Water Pageant and the Fireworks show from the Magic Kingdom. What a truly magical night. I absolutely loved the beach and being able to walk out from my room.

Oh - what about the Not so darling Mother in law? TOO MANY BUGS ON THE BEACH!! TOO BREEZY. it was about 82 degrees at 9:00 pm. UUGGGHHHH

So...Did your 15 year olds also get autographs?? That's good to know-I hope my older son keeps doing it for awhile. Also, did you get your 2 year old an autograph book?? I was thinking maybe he would be too young? Did your MIL enjoy being with the kids?

My 15 year olds were very much into the autograph books and the pictures with the characters. They even got Mickey and Goofy to do the moon walk at one of the meals.

My 2 year old had his own autograph book and pen. He was amazing. Every time he saw a character he asked for his book and pen. We would open the book to a blank page for him and he'd give it to the character.

I think he'd love it.

Oh my mother in law, enjoyed the kids at times. Other times she felt they wanted to much, or when the older ones went off on their own we got lectured. Sometimes when It was really hot, and they'd get a little cranky, she would say stuff to annoy them.

We're going in July with 2 15 year olds and a 2 year old. I am really enjoying hearing about your trip. Can't wait to get the next installment. Did the 15 year olds venture off much or did you have "significant" family time. I don't mind the teenagers doing their own thing, I just hope we can do alot together. Sorry about the MIL.:(

I would actually like to hear more about the MIL-You really are a humurous writer!!

the 15 year olds ventured off mostly when we were at the MK. They weren't interested in the "kiddie rides" so they went off to space and splash mountains. Also at MGM, they spent most of the day at Rock N Roller coaster and ToT.

We did do a lot together, but I think it was good for them to get a little free time.

You know,

Bottom line she is a good person. She loves the kids and does great things for us. Like this trip. She paid for it. Great right!! I just didn't realize I had sold my soul to the devil to visit my favorite place on earth.

We were there May 9 - 18. Not a day under 92 degrees, ok. Picture 4 thirsty kids and 2 thirsty adults (myself and my dh). And she complained about every soda or water we bought. Apparently I didn't realize she was part camel and could go 10 days without drinking water.

It was that kind of stuff that drove us crazy. We bought everything once we were at the parks. Can you picture 2 38 year old adults sneaking money to their kids so they can buy a soda???

lizzie64 You are loads of laughes. Isn't it wonderful to have such great memories to charish.

I needed to smile today. Reading about your MIL, I just smile and am in the know!;)

I will, I promise. Just had lots of stuff to do today with the kids and school.

I will get the next couple of days of reports up tomorrow.

Glad you are all looking forward to them. I thought about everyone while I was on my trip and took notes.

Lizzie,

Not to turn this into an issue but aren't the rooms guaranteed at 3pm? Can they just decide not to give you your room if another guest decides they want to stay longer?

Did they offer you another room or did you make the decision to wait to get a connecting room?

Looking forward to more trip reports.

Were you happy with the set up of 2 rooms at AKL? Did you think you preferred this to possibly staying in a suite?

I never heard of them being guaranteed for 3 pm. Just that that was check in time.

The rooms we were given were exactly what I wanted so we just waited for the second room to open up.
My requests were Tahiti, Ground Floor and connecting rooms and 1025 and 1026 were just that. So we waited.

I loved the setup of the rooms at AKL. One room 2 queens, other room was queen, bunks and day bed.

I thought the suites were too expensive, compared to 2 separate rooms. And it gave us nice privacy from the MIL.

Maybe I am wrong about the rooms being guaranteed.

My MIL will be with us on our trip in October and I'm just not sure what to do about the room set up. She is the greatest lady. I can travel with her and I could live with her but my own mother is another story. I'm ready to pull my hair out 10 minutes after I get to her house for a visit.

What are your plans for your future trip? Will you go back to the Poly again? Glad to hear you loved AKL.

Lizzie,

Thanks for the reports. I'm having a good laugh as I read.

Keep posting. I'm especially waiting for sunrise safari and pirate cruise details:D

Also, how did the Shirley at the perfectgift work out? I really hope you were pleased. I'd hate that I reccomended something that didn't work for you.

Eagerly awaiting your next installment.

Laura

I think she must be a card! First, can I borrow her and let her pay for our stay?? :) Just kidding, but ya know- all that's bonding- the kids start to figure out grandma is just a bit anal about spending dough on a soda, and she has her persnickety ways, I think it's a real toss-up at what point you trade a free trip with MIL in it or a slumming it trip you pay for yourself without the MIL. But keep us informed- we all have a relative like this and they make for good comedy (after the fact!) and you had a great attitude through it all- you're really just trying too hard to seek her approval- even though it may not seem like it- you have it- she's just not one of those who can easily show it! :) I'd like to hear how your husband handles it- my husband would just let it all roll off and leave me to speak up- why can't we do that??

Can't wait for your other posts!!
Tara

Tara,

My husband knows his mother well. For the most part, we just both let it roll, but then we vent to each other.

She finally did step over his limit and he spoke to her regarding what we wanted to buy the kids.

The kids unfortunately now, don't ever want to go away with her again, because of her incessant criticism.

But she is a good person, this was a great gift. Will we take her up on it if offered again. Probably not!!

Oh and she called me yesterday to question a $12 charge from the food court that she didn't recall.

Definitely won't do this again.
