Last year we saw a lot of the little greyish/brown lizards in our site. Does any one know what kind they are? My son loved chasing them and it would be great to have some knowledge of them this year. Has anyone picked them up before?:)

Hi!

Someone posted what kind they are somewhere on these boards as I have seen that before. They are some kind of common lizard in Florida. As far as I know they can be picked up but perhaps someone should answer that knows for sure, don't want to find out they actually bite!:thumbsup2

If they're like the blue tail ones here in Tennessee, the tails pop off when you try to pick them up, they do grow back though. Supposed to distract predators while they get away.

They are generally Anole Lizards and can change colors from green to brown and are harmless. Assuming the cold snaps did not kill most of them you should see plenty.

They are quite tasty if you can lasso enough of the little boogers.
But I gotta tell ya, that lasso takes some practice.

If you are able to catch couple of them, hold them on each side of their head with your thumb and forefinger, place them up to your ear lobes and you'll have lizard ear rings.

Feels pretty tingly.

Anoles is correct...they are perfectly harmless and very abundant in numbers in the SouthEastern states...I found a post about these lizards on a thread from a couple of years back, the poster was an obvious morAn....

If you're catching lizards with a net, it really helps to slow them down if you beat the heck out them with the net before trying to scoop them up. kids LOVE limp lizards! Adult women, however, do not especially care for limp lizards.

Maaaan....that was soooo wrong, on soooo many levels!!!!

A couple years ago we camped next to a family with a little boy who was pretty adept at catching them. He gave me some lessons, but I never got the hang of it.

They were yellow-spotted lizards, and if you see Mr. Sir coming into your camp chasin' after one, drop your shovel and run! :scared1:

Thanks so much for the info. We can't wait to start hearding them! I don't think I am brave enough to put them on my ears though!
