Living with the Land - Closed

I love this attraction and I hope it's open when I'm there next week. I also hope that they aren't going to close it permanently. surely not with what little there is to do in Epcot Future World at this time.

Me too. Love it, even though parts of it smell like the kaboom toilet thingy my wife uses in the tank of our toilet.

Seems like a technical issue from the responses. If it were a leaking roof…I doubt they would shut the ride down. It’s likely that the roof has been leaking for years already.

I have it on good authority that Bob Paycheck has ordered all the fruits and vegetables on the ride to be replaced with plastic plants, and the horticulturists are to be replaced with the planters that were briefly used on 3 Caballeros.

When asked why, his reply: "Saving money...errr...I mean providing the guests' an enhanced experience, or course!" :)
I heard that Disney is going to start charging people $25/person per day to pick your own food from Living with the Land and deliver it to restaurants. This will in fact be the only way to eat at a select number of Disney’s most popular restaurants. Of the new initiative, Chapek said, “This will give guests an enhanced experience by integrating them even more into the magical process of producing the food they love at our restaurants. We’re finally pulling back the curtain and letting our guests participate directly in producing the magic!”
We’ll I was gonna say Chapek told them to leave the leak and add a “back side of water” joke to the narration….but these are both way funnier.

I have heard that something is broken and the part needs to be made. Making parts takes a little time.

I could totally see them adding a behind the scenes tour of the greenhouses, fish farm, etc. That included vegetable picking as part of the experience. This honestly isn't the most out there idea for Disney to sneakily implement.

They already have one and while you don't pick the vegetables you do get to taste some. I know you were joking but the tour is kind of fun.

Didn't realize they had a tour. I bet it is a cool one to do. I remember riding it as a kid and being so bored, but loving it last time I went. Found it really interesting. Might have to check on the tour next time I'm there.

Behind the seeds tour is AWESOME. I have done it a few times. The last time, they gave us a take home instruction sheet (for those who wanted it) on how to make a simple hydroponics garden at home for just a few dollars. You really do get up close and personal with the plants. We also got to see the little wasps that attack other bugs in a close up microscope thing and yes, they really do actual research there and they are happy to answer any questions and tell you all about what they are doing and what they have learned. I highly recommend that tour when it's available again.

I read somewhere that they may be adding restraints to the boats because some dingle berry decided to hop out and pick a cucumber.

I don't know how true that is.

MANY, MANY years ago my sister had a panic attack on the Mexico ride (before it was re-branded). The boat got stuck. She freaked out and jumped out of the boat which made for an even longer shutdown. I was too young to remember it, but I have heard the tale.

We loved the Behind the Seeds tour and took it several times when they first offered it, way back when it was free. We haven't done it since they started to charge for it but maybe we will in a few years when our grandson is a bit older. I think it is a great way for kids to learn about this stuff.

Did you notice any changes?
Not really, although I expected to see the traditional “Food and Wine” themed placards by the plants used in some of the festival dishes, and there weren’t any. I think they might have done a small rotation of the displays, but I’m pretty sure that’s a regular occurrence.
