Live TR: Spring Vacation 2012

Loved the trip report. Your pics are great. I really liked the one of your DS with the worms. Sorry you have to head back home. Drive safe.

This is a very convenient night-before stop.

Thank you for taking the time to post this. It both gives me a FW fix and makes me homesick, all at the same time!

A late submission from DH's phone...not a super clear pic (I think DS took it) but a pretty decent little bass:

Thank you for sharing your vacation with us. I really enjoyed all of your pictures. It looks like you all had a great time. We have a 6 month old lab and I thought we wouldn't be able to take him, but now I think we might!!!

really enjoyed your TR! I agree with ED that the pic of your son and the worms is priceless :rotfl:

Great. Report!! Your photos are awesome! Fortunately we are leaving in 11 days for a 2 week trip to the fort....so I'll. Let you know if its any easier after many days to leave!:yay:

I'm joining in. We are planning to camp next year the first week of christmas? What way did you go in? We will be traveling from VA and probably stopping between sumter, sc and jacksonville (big range I know, just depends on what time we get to leave). The last several times we've gone, the GPS has taken us in via I4 and DTD and it was horrible. I cannot imagine going through there with a camper, which way did y'all go in? I'm hopeing there is a way other than I4 to go in. We will have a suburban pulling a 34ft tag along with me, DH, and 2 pups.

Mauicat, I'm jealous of your 2 weeks! Have fun!

Leleluvdis, we drove down 95 to I-4, then exit 67. That is the exit right after DTD, no driving THROUGH DTD. I-4 isn't too bad depending on time of day, races at Daytona, etc.

DON'T listen to your GPS. It tells us that EVERY time. We've been camping at the Fort since they opened, and the best way in is to go to the MK entrance (main entrance with sign) then veer to right and about 1 or more miles turn left into Fort Wilderness. Lots less stressful, and if you're towing easier to turn left than from other direction turning right, because of angle of road. Don't remember exit #, but it says MK.

OP, do you remember the name of that restaurant in NC that had the great homemade desserts? We also live in Raleigh, and can't think of where it could be, unless it is closer to Smithfield. Sounds like a yummy place to go sometime :thumbsup2

Thanks! As horrible as traffic was when we went down last year, I CANNOT imagine trying to drive through all that mess of DTD. I will have to remember to look for MK signs instead of following GPS. Thanks!

I just checked and it is called Meadow Village Restaurant, and it was just south of the Smithfield KOA off of 96 (I think.) Certainly not fancy by any means...but I gotta say I'm still thinking about that fried chicken and those desserts! My BIL and SIL ride motorcycle, so I think they found it on one of their rides.

Every time i try to type something it says something I did not write. WHAT ON EARTH???????????
