Oh, what could have been . . .
I know that you all must think that it is easy being TCD, but it is not. Sometimes a lot of planning has to go into my activities, and often it comes to naught.
Take our plans for the Golden Mickeys.
As you know, part of the show involves an actor by the name of Rona Rivers interviewing guests as they arrive for the show. The interviews are shown on the big screens in the theatre for those waiting for the performance.
One of the questions that Rona always seems to ask the interview-ee is: "Who is your favorite Disney Character?" On our cruise last year, a child innocently said "Daffy Duck." We all know that he is a Looney Tune, not a Disney Character. But, that response starts the wheels turning in TCD's head. Wouldn't it be funny if someone said Sponge Bob, or some other non-Disney character. How would Rona react? That would be funny (at least to TCD anyhow)!
And, so, a year of planning and preparing are spent for the Golden Mickeys night. DD has agreed to participate (a chip off of the old block). The plan: When Rona asks: Who is your favorite Disney Character? DD is to respond, "Why, you are Oprah!" (Rona Rivers is an African American woman).
Now, you have to admit that that is a great plan. I, for one, am looking forward to the big moment. Plus, can you imagine the look of horror on Mrs. TCD's face? Priceless, I'm telling you.
So, the night finally arrives. We get our seats. We wait until just before the show for DD to go out and get interviewed. The theatre is nearly full! Everything is perfect! DD goes out and gets on line to be interviewed. Her turn finally arrives. There she is on the big screen! TCD can hardly contain his excitement! He takes a photo for posterity:
Oh my goodness, the moment has arrived, Rona asks a couple of questions. And then mixes is up. She asks my DD: "Now, honey, who is your favorite Disney Princess?" That's right, she doesn't ask her who her favorite character is, she asks who her favorite princess is. That is even better! In fact it is perfect! This is going to be the defining moment of our cruise. And, after a dramatic pause, my DD opens her mouth and says: "Cinderella." Rona thanks her, and moves on to the next person in line. That is it. No big laugh. No laugh at all! Noooooooo!
That darn Mrs. TCD is sure rubbing off on the DD's!
Oh well, it gives me motivation for the next cruise.
Don't anyone tell Rona. Or, Mrs. TCD. I want this to be a surprise.
