If you're looking for a special way to work through that day, may I suggest something that I and my son, then 3, started after my wife (his mom) died.
On the anniversary of her death or on her birthday, we would get a helium balloon and, with a prayer, let the balloon go, and travel up to her in heaven. Sometimes we attached a note, once I even tied a Christmas cookie he and I made --needed two or three balloons that year! Each time we sat and watched it for a long time, thinking of her, until we couldn't see it any more.
Anyway, the thought of sending one of those Mickey balloons up to heaven might be comforting.....
Peace,
TJ
