We checked in yesterday and that process went pretty good until we went to look for our room! The wonderful cm that checked us in was talking to us about restaurants we have not tried yet. Well she must have been just distracted enough because she wrote the wrong room number down on our packet of room keys and on the map! In fact the room she wrote down does not even exist! So needless to say we looked for it for about 10min ( first trip as DVC'ers ) and then finally got smart and used the house phone to see what was the deal!! lol In the end tired and hungry we made it to our room! I do have to know if anyone else has experienced the monster in the air conditioner closet??? We were finally asleep ( took awhile..brought my mom so I let her sleep on the bed with my 6yr old and I took the sofa bed with my 4yr old.....not the greatest bed but hey it is a studio right? ) and all of a sudden it sounded like someone was trying to beat our door down. I was scared to death....until I realized it was the stupid air conditioner. It was screwy all night actually...had it set to 68 and it kept going from 68 to 74. Yes I know I need to call them but we were crazy busy today so I will try tomorrow.

I would love to ask my fellow dvc'ers to keep us in prayers tomorrow. The 16th will be the one year anniversary of my husband's death. Some of you know my story and have posted to me before...ty! My girls are pretty nervous about it....as am I. I cannot believe it has been one year. He wanted his girls growing up going to Disney and my 6yr old said this is where she thought daddy would have wanted us for this day so here we are. I arranged a special thing to happen at MK through giftsofalifetime! I think it is going to be so neat. I hope it might help the day go smoother. I don't know if anything can really make it okay but at least we are in a very happy place with tons of memories. I will update tomorrow night and let you know how it went!

Thank you!
amanda

Sounds like the same monster we had in a studio in the Grandstands in 2007. It was our first stay in a studio and I wondered if all of them were like that.

We'll all be thinking about you and the girls tomorrow.:grouphug: Think about your happy memories and try to have wonderful trip!

lol - those A/C units are crazy! in OKW too!!

And tons of :grouphug: good thoughts to you and your girls. I hope your special event is wonderful! I can't imagine how hard this must be for you all, but I hope there are new, happy memories for you and your girls on this trip... and on your (extra) special day in WDW!

What else will you do that will be a special memory of DH? Maybe ice cream Mickeys? or another special treat or ride that he loved...?

Sending good wishes for you all! :flower3:

Hey! Those AC are kind of funky. Also, if they do not detect any motion after a time, the kick back to the off position. Here is what someone wrote a few years back about how to override the motion detector (I can't remember who wrote it to give due credit):

Press the power button and the down arrow button simultaneously. The letters "bp" should appear in the display indicating you are in "bypass" mode. Then you can use the up/down buttons to set the temperature. You may have to do this every 24 hours or every few days.

The sensor by-pass for our kind of thermostat was simple--I just pressed the "off" button and both the temperature "up/down" buttons all at the same time. "BP' appears in the thermostat, and then it operates as most other themostats in most other hotels in the US

And yet another:

The thermostat has two buttons on the left (ON/OFF and AUTO/FAN) and two buttons on the right (UP and DOWN)

1) Press the ON/OFF and AUTO/FAN buttons together. The digital display will change to 'CA'.

2) Press the ON/OFF and DOWN button together. The digital display will change to 'OR" (or something similar).

You have just deactivated the motion sensor. This will last for three days at which point you will have to repeat the process.

TO CHANGE AC THERMOSTAT SETTINGS THE THERMOSTAT HAS TO BE PUT INTO "SERVICE MODE" IT IS SIMPLE TO DO BY PRESSING THE FOLLOWING KEYS ON THE FRONT OF THE THERMOSTAT.

EXECUTE THE FOLLOWING SEQUENCE:

1. PRESS (AND KEEP PRESSED) THE F/C KEY

2. PRESS (AND RELEASE) THE OFF/AUTO KEY

3. PRESS (AND RELEASE) THE DISPLAY KEY.

4. RELEASE THE F/C KEY.

UPON SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETING THIS SEQUENCE, THE LCD WILL DISPLAY PAR (PARAMETER) AND THE PARAMETER NUMBER.

1. PRESS THE UP ARROW KEY AND SCROLL UNTIL # 6 APPEARS. (NEW MODELS # 24)

2. PRESS THE OFF/AUTO KEY

3. THE CURRENT LOW TEMPERATURE IS DISPLAYED.

4. PRESS THE DOWN ARROW KEY AND SCROLL UNTIL THE DESIRED ROOM
TEMPERATURE APPEARS

5. PRESS THE F/C KEY

OK. So one of those ways is bound to work to help keep things an even temperature.

Also, I will say a prayer for you. It will be a hard day for your family. It will be perfectly fine to grieve, laugh, and play. And I believe your kids are right. Your husband would have wanted you to be at Disney today. I know I would have. :grouphug:

We were just in a Studio at SSR and had the air off and the "monster in the closet" still kept wanting out.....

I hope your day at MK is a magical one.:grouphug:

Amanda - praying for you and your family today. Your husband would be thrilled that you are keeping his memory so alive with these great memories for your girls.

Amanda,
Prayers for you and your family today. What a loving way to honor your husband's memory. We are off to SSR in a few days. My husband is ill and we are all too well aware that this could be the one the last or even the last of our Disney trips together. I know when my husband's time comes he wants to look down and see us still laughing at Disney. That would mean everything to him.

I am praying for you RIGHT NOW!!!! I hope you are having a very special day with your girls and Mom. Of course it must be a sad day, but I hope you truly make some wonderful memories. We'll be thinking of you throughout the day. I can't wait to hear about the surprise!

I will be thinking of you and the girls today. I'm sorry for your loss. We lost my dad to cancer on July 18th, 2008. SO this year has been a year of "first time w/out dad..."I don't know yet how the one year anniversary feels, but I'm glad you have something special planned through gifts of a lifetime. That should add something nice to your day.

Prayers and pixie dust for family today. :grouphug:

My prayers are with you and your family as you face this difficult day. It sounds like you are doing a wonderful thing to commemorate your husband's life at the place that brought you all so much joy together.

Thinking of you and your family today. I hope you have a special day and remember your husband fondly while at Disney.

I hope you have a wonderful day of being together, remembering the happy times and supporting each other through the grief.

Amanda, what a wonderful way to celebrate the life of your husband...you are in my thoughts today..I hope you have a very magical day and that your husbands memory is very strong.:grouphug:

Amanda said my prayers for you and your family today, keep remembering the good times you had :grouphug:

Thinking of you and your girls today, hoping you can enjoy your time and honor him. As you already know, you aren't the same without him, but you are who you are because of him. I haven't shared my Saratoga story yet, but this seems like a good time to do so. When my husband and I were there in January with our 3 girls, about the fourth day into our trip, I got a call from our local police department that my mother was found in her home and she had passed away. My 4 year old was in her princess dress ready to go to the castle. . .talk about the worste place to be to hear this news, as we had to immediately pack up our family and head back home. Disney in an instant became the unhappiest place on earth. Our girls lost their grandmother and on top of it had to abandon their Disney vacation! DVC was wonderful about the situation, as always, and we are going back in June after they get out of school. I know it will be a happy place again, just like it is for you today.

Hi Amanda....Hope that you and your girls have a MOST MAGICAL :wizard: DAY!!!! I too lost my husband last year, it will be one year on July 12th....hard to believe! We (DD's 17 & 9) have been to Disney twice since he passed away and it was always "Our Magical :wizard: Family Place." We always feel very close :grouphug:to him there. We are going back on July 19th for our third visit and we are looking forward to it....we know that "DADDY" is always there with us!

Just said a little prayer for you and the girls and while I know that he is you with always - he was definately with you all today:grouphug:. Have a wonderful time remembering the old times and creating new memories.

Amanda & girls you are in our thoughts & prayers :grouphug: and may

your memories be a comfort to you all and knowing that your DH is

smiling upon all of you from above :flower3:

Peace,
~Laura,Joe & family
