I saw that yesterday. Two things it made me wonder was if the umpires ever considered stopping the batter for fear he might be approaching the pitcher for retaliation, and whether anyone from the pitcher’s team had already been to the mound, or did no one else approach to try and settle him down until after the batter did.

But overall, hat’s off to the batter!

This is the result of great parents and great coaches leading these boys into being great young men.
I hope a lot of crazy sports parents and even crazier coaches learn from this (and there’s a lot of crazy ones - trust me, I know).

I doubt the umpires did - you can tell by the boys body language that he wasn’t mad or heated about what happened - he wasn’t charging the mound.

It didn’t look like a coach went to the mound until the batter approached the mound. Normally a coach doesn’t rush out unless there’s an injury - especially during a big game like that (many games, coaches are allowed only a few mound approaches, so you need to save them for when it’s absolutely necessary). But since the game was paused temporarily it was a good time for the coach to go (I’m sure they didn’t count that towards his approach limit - at least I hope they didn’t).

Saw it on the news. Great kids, great display of sportsmanship. Nice that the pitcher’s teammates joined in for a group hug too!

From what I saw, it appeared the batter called for a TIME OUT from the umpire so he could safely walk to the mound. Great kid.

Thanks, Dan for showing that video, even though it made me cry!
My grandson has played in leagues from little league through Jr. League and I have also seen some extroidinary acts of kindness from these kids.
