"Little House On The Prairie" fans.. Can you help?

He died??? I SWEAR there was an episode with a voice over from Laura at the end saying that Albert became a doctor as an adult....

There is an episode that states exactly that.

Whomever was in charge of "continuity" for the show really slipped up.

Yes I, a little black girl from the inner city, am a LHOTP addict! Don't know how I related riding the subway with growing a crop:lmao:

Anyhoo, I seem to remember reading somewhere that it is assumed that hemophilia was the cause of the boys' deaths. The Lord is my Shepherd - one of my favorites (as well as "Sylvia").

I thought it was cute how they had Albert play a young Charles in an earlier flashback episode.

And Laura and Willie - sibling in real life. Too funny!

YES! I remember seing that, too. For a minute there I thought I was going a little looney.

I wonder what the writers intended, did Albert survive his illness or did the writers throw out that little footnote about his returning as a doctor and decided to have him die in that special? We may never know.

So, Laura Ingalls Wilder never had a brother named Albert? They just made up that storyline for the show?

Yes, Albert was fictional. So was Mary's husband (she never married).

I just read Allison's book "Confessions of a Prarie B****" WOW! Good stuff.

I'm actually reading Castmember Confidential now, but Allison's book is next on my list. I heard Melissa Sue Anderson's book was a snoozefest. According to "Laura", they never really got along well and their onscreen fights were very easy to do because of that !

In Alison's book, Ali writes that on their first day, Melissa G. came into her dressing room, introduced herself, and then proceeded to tell Alison to stay away for MSA becuase she was a B*****.

Alison and Melissa G were friends on and off the show.

MSA NEVER attends any LHOTP cast reunions.

You're going to make me buy more books now - aren't you?? Just had to tempt me with these little tid bits - huh? :headache:

Titles please? :goodvibes

I think the hardest episode for me to watch is the one where Mary's baby dies in the fire. Ohmigosh, so heartbreaking.

I saw that episode when I was around 9 or so---so traumatizing!:scared1: The image of Grace appearing to *bang* the baby into the glass is burned in my brain!! (I have read that in fact it was just the camera angle, that the actress wasn't really banging the doll against the window. Nonetheless!!!!)

And someone mentioned liking the episode "Sylvia"--is that the one where the guy with the mask attacks that girl?? Ack, again, super traumatizing to a kid!!

Alsion's book -- "Confessions of a Prarie B*****" (I got my copy at the library which is severely overdue must return.....)
MG's book -- "Prarie Tales"

AHHH I *knew* I remembered an episode with Laura saying that!!

That episode aired though before the one where Albert (presumably) dies.

I want to read 'Nellies' book too. I should put that on my Kindle list.

The worst part of that episode for me was Mary's high pitched scream of "My baby! My baby!" and of Grace in the window holding the baby. I'm getting upset just thinking about it!

I've been a huge LHOTP fan for years. I can't tell you how many times I've seen each epiosode! As for Albert, he did not REALLY exist. I wrote to the Laura Ingalls Wilder society years ago to ask a few questions regarding his character and a few others. There is an Albert in the family history, but he is not the one they refer to. Basically, they did it for plotlines.

I keep telling DH that I want to take a vacation out to Minnesota one summer. I want so badly to see Laura and Almanzo's home and to visit the Laura Ingalls Wilder Society. I would've loved to have seen MG playing Caroline in the play.

That character's name was "Alice", not "Grace". :)

I loved this series back in the day, and probably saw all the episodes, but am having trouble recalling the later episodes. I don't know why I remember details about all the earlier episodes but barely remember how the series ended.

Was there a fire in Walnut Grove during the very last episode?

Just wanted to add: I really liked Michael Landon's "Highway to Heaven" series, too.

No, the town was dynamited because the landowner wanted all the citizens to leave town so he could take over, so they destroyed the buildings saying he may own the land but not the buildings. This was in The Final Farewell.

There was a boy in the family.....he only lived to be about a year old. His death was a huge tragedy in the Ingall's family life.

Since someone else already mentioned that Laura and Wilie were siblings in real life, so were Albert (Matthew Laboteaux) and Andrew Garvey (Patrick Labyorteaux)-the changed spelling of their last name was on purpose. Also some of Michael Landon's kids had parts on the show (Michael and Leslie). That's also not counting the 3 sets of twins (for Carrie, Grace, and Rose).

Why is it, that everytime I watch this show, on Hallmark or whatnot, it turns out to be one of these three episodes?

  1. Laura and her friend find fool's gold in the creek, and steal the Olsen's screen door to sift it from the river
  2. The Ingall's newborn baby boy dies, and Laura blames herself for it, so she runs away to the mountains and lives with Jonathan
  3. Nellie falls off Bunny, and fakes being paralyzed, and at the end Laura pushes her down the hill and she lands in the creek

:happytv:

Thanks for the refresher! I vaguely remember that now.

Yes they did! Being the fan that I am, I refused to believe he died. I believe he became a doctor and took over Dr. Baker's practice.

I didn't know that Melissa Sue Anderson wrote a book. I hope my library has it available. The ones that Melissa Gilbert and Allison wrote are on my to-read list.

Has anyone read the books by Roger Lea MacBride? I wonder if they are as good as Laura Ingalls Wilder's books.

In "the Lord is my Shepherd" episode they address that with the son being born and dying shortly afterwards. Sadly, that seemed to be a common thing with boys in the family:sad1: Albert was brought in later as the adoptive son.

Here's a couple of interesting facts for you all. Willy was actually MG's brother. Albert and the Garvey boy were actually brothers. Matthew(Albert) was diagnosed with Autism at an early age. Matthew(Albert) played the young Charles in earlier episodes.

In the final episode, where the town is blown up, it REALLY was. Michael Landon(from what I remember) did not want anyone else using the sets for other shows or movies so they were all destroyed.

I'm a total LHOTP nerd.
