"Little House On The Prairie" fans.. Can you help?

Since someone else already mentioned that Laura and Wilie were siblings in real life, so were Albert (Matthew Laboteaux) and Andrew Garvey (Patrick Labyorteaux)-the changed spelling of their last name was on purpose. Also some of Michael Landon's kids had parts on the show (Michael and Leslie). That's also not counting the 3 sets of twins (for Carrie, Grace, and Rose).

Haha I should have read yoru post first! I just posted pretty much the same thing in mine! Great minds;)

I've been a huge LHOTP fan for years. I can't tell you how many times I've seen each epiosode! As for Albert, he did not REALLY exist. I wrote to the Laura Ingalls Wilder society years ago to ask a few questions regarding his character and a few others. There is an Albert in the family history, but he is not the one they refer to. Basically, they did it for plotlines.

I keep telling DH that I want to take a vacation out to Minnesota one summer. I want so badly to see Laura and Almanzo's home and to visit the Laura Ingalls Wilder Society. I would've loved to have seen MG playing Caroline in the play.

We did the Laura Ingalls Wilder road trip this past summer. We stopped in Walnut Grove, and honestly, it was pretty much a snooze fest, except for seeing the banks of Plum Creek, and the depression in the ground that used to be the dug out they lived in there. The family only lived briefly in Minnesota, and Walnut Grove doesn't have all that much to look at...and zero accomodations.

OTOH, DeSmet, which is about 3 hours straight west of Walnut Grove, is where the family lived for a long time, and (in fact) is where Ma, Pa, Mary, Carrie, and Laura and Almanzo's baby son are all buried. The recreation of the homestead there is fascinating, and you can see the original surveyor's house. It also brought the whole "Long Winter" into amazing perspective for me. Seeing the bleakness of that place, and imagining Almanzo driving across the prairie in desperate search for the wheat. Yikes.

For the true fan of LHOTP, this is a must do in my opinion.

:-)

My name is Pinkpony and I am an LHoTP addict.

This has been a fun thread for me to read, because I've been obsessed with Little House since I was a little girl. I know all the episodes by heart. I even have an original script from one of the episodes with Alison Arngrim's name on it. There's little doodles all over it, so I like to think she did the doodling, but who really knows.

Dean Butler, who played Almanzo is producing documentaries on the the real people portrayed on the show.

Here's a link. Click on the menu.

Albert wasn't the only adopted Ingalls child on the show, TPTB also had Ma & Pa adopt James (Jason Bateman :lovestruc) and Cassandra Cooper. They had a very full little house...:rotfl:

Little House on the Pairie was one of my favorite programs when I was a teenager. We need more programming like that!

Here's a couple of interesting facts for you all. Willy was actually MG's brother. Albert and the Garvey boy were actually brothers. Matthew(Albert) was diagnosed with Autism at an early age. Matthew(Albert) played the young Charles in earlier episodes.

I'm a total LHOTP nerd.

Are you saying that Matthew was diagnosed with Autism or his character (Albert) was diagnosed with Austism?

Okay now a subject I know about.... if your need to know anything about LHOTP and the Walton's I'm your gal! I love, love love those 2 shows. I even read up on the real lives of the Ingalls family not very long ago. It is true that there was a voice over leading us to believe that Doctor Albert Ingalls did return later. It is also true that Ma and Pa and Laura and Almonzo both had infant sons die in real life. Mary and Carrie never married. Mary did go blind in real life. Almost all of the family died from some sort of complications from diabetes. I believe that Laura lived the longest. I have read that Matthew L(Albert) was diagnosed with Autism.
Now for the show....Did anyone else have a crush on Dean Butler(Manly) but me? Also, the scene where Mary and Adam's son dies in the fire while Alice is trying to get out is much to sad for me.
For the poster whose Mom was an ATWT fan. So was I. I was so excited to find LHOTP on the Hallmark channel only to have them start showing Martha Stewart in it's place. I mean who needs 3 hours in a row of MS.
Luckily this week they have started having LHOTP back on.

Now if I can get Hallmark to show The Walton's everyday I'd be much happier when I pay my cable bill. lol

He was pretty cute, but I tuned in to see Adam (Linwood Boomer). That hair! Those eyes! I always did prefer the dark haired guys to the blondies, though... :thumbsup2

Carrie did marrie. She married a widower. I will have to look up his name but he helped carved Mt. Rushmore. After Ma died Mary went to live with Carrie and her huusband. Laura was the only one to have natural children. Carrie had step children.

ETA Carrie married David Swazney.

I know that's what's weird to me. I mean he was the only blond I ever had a crush on even in real life. lol

Yes, I guess my memory is worse than I thought. I was thinking of them not having natural children, not getting married. I got it backwards. I find it interesting that out of all those girls that Rose was the only grandchild. But then again, I have 3 grown children and my grandson may very well be the only grandchild I ever have.:sad1:

Another of the lessor known tidbits are that Rose had a son that died in infancy. None of the male descendants of Charlea Ingalls survived their infancy. Rose was the last direct descendant of Charles.

Nellie was actually a combination of a couple of girls that LAura knew in school. No evidence has been found that they actually existed.

I have a few books about Laura. I have to find them, but I THINK one of them is Laura: The Life of Laura Ingalls Wilder. It's a dry read, but it gives a great family history and even shows a bit of the family tree...breaks it down to understand the whole timeline. It also has some beautiful pictures of the family, including a picture of the Wilder family(Almonzo's parents and sibs.)

To the poster about Matthew NOT being autistic....not trying to start and argument(my sister works specifically with children with autism)I thought this was a pretty interesting fact. My best guess, would be that he has Asperger's, but being diagnosed back in the 70's as a child, I don't think they had varying degrees of autism then.
