Lisa's Journal (Life on the "Beach" - Part 2 all the way to goal!)

Hi Lisa,

Just dropping by to say hi. Here's some :wizard: for weighin tomorrow.
Beth

I just read the last 6 or so pages of your journal, Lisa, and am amazed at your willpower with food. You are truly inspiring.

Isn't it great when people at work notice you've lost weight? The last time I did, about 2 years ago, people were telling me I was looking "cut" from my weight training. I was down to a size 10-12 and feeling strong. Now it's like starting all over again...and I had promised myself after all my hard work that I would never let myself get out of shape again...but here I am...

When you get a chance, can you PM me about the FIRM? What tapes to get, cost, etc...I can't jog anymore, I hate my Nordic Track machine and I can't afford the gym anymore. I have started walking again and free weights, but it might be a real time saver to do cardio and weights at the same time.

Thanks and Congrats on your awesome job!!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Lisa. I've read your journal several times, but never posted. Congrats on all the weight you've lost, the inches, and the cheat free challenge.

I was reading a few pages back about when you were talking to your doctor. It's hard being short ya know. I'm smaller than you at 4'11. My weight should be somewhere around 100 to 110. I'm like no way. I don't want to look sick. I want to look healthy and with some curves on my body. I have lots of curves now, and I want to continue to have them without that sickly look. You do what you feel is best for your body. I'm sure it will let you know.

Onward and downward we go.................

Lisa, you are amazing!!

:bounce: TWO HUNDRED DAYS!!! :bounce:

You've worked hard at your eating and exercise and boy, has it paid off!! I bet you were just beaming on the plane when you put your seatbelt on!!! To many people, it seems like a little thing but to those of us who have struggled with our weight, it can mean so much!!

I'm happy to hear your trip went well. I'm at WDW now and not being as good as I should, but I'm so sick of the junky food. Thanks for the tip about the ice cream at MK and the mousse cup at Norway! I've got a few days left and I'm ready to get back on plan so I'll be trying them!

Have a wonderful day on the Beach, Lisa!!

June 18, 2004 (Friday) Day 202 on the Beach

I had a thought. A scary thought. I'm thinking of giving up my scale for one month. I think I'm just too focused on what the scale says. I seem to have a better day when the scale is down and when it stays the same or pops up a pound or two then I'm a little down. When I was working out one day this week when the scale was up a pound, I felt a little depressed and had thoughts in my head that I'd always be fat. Of course, I had just weighed myself and was up a pound. I found that I didn't work out the way I know I could. I tried to ignore that Negative Nelly thoughts but she was insistent that I wasn't going to be able to reach goal and that bothered me.

So I'm thinking about giving up the scale after the Independence Challenge is over for a month just to see if I can do it. Like I said, scary but I am thinking about it. But the flip side is when the scale reports a loss, I feel like a super woman and that nothing is impossible for me. I've got a lot to think about before the challenge is over! :)

Menu:
B: 2 scrambled eggs with a slice of low fat cheese, 2 small sausage patties and 1/2 bowl of whole wheat cereal with 1% milk
S: Dannon light and fit peach yogurt (4 oz.)
L: tuna salad and 9 whole wheat crackers with an orange
S: 8 whole almonds
D: crustless pizza (mozzeralla cheese, lean ground beef, turkey pepperoni, green peppers, onions and mushrooms) and a n/s/a fudgesicle for dessert

Exercise and Water Gauge:
This morning I did FIRM super body sculpt (upper and lower body) with Stephanie Corley. I feel great like I usually do after a FIRM work out. Water level was a 5.5. Pretty good!

That's a wrap for Friday!

June 19, 2004 (Saturday) Day 203 on the Beach

I went to the movies with my family today and we saw Stepford Wives. I didn't have popcorn at the movies, I brought my own fresh fruit, cherries and they were delicious! I went to BJ's and bought 3 pounds of them for $10. Steep price but so worth it, they taste great.

I'm thinking about buying myself a pair of jeans in size 14 and trying them on every week until they fit. That might be what I do if I decide to give up the scale but it will allow me to still check my progress.

Weigh in day is today (Sunday): I lost 1.5 pounds! It's funny because when I got on the scale first thing this morning I was down 1/2 pound. I know sometimes when I work out, take a shower and then weigh myself again, I'm down a bit more and that's what happened this morning. I got back on the scale after work out and shower and was down 1 pound. I thought I'd give it one more try and I was down 1.5 pounds. I'll definitely take that! I weigh less now that I have in about 20 years! I'm also 10 pounds from my next 10% goal. Onderland is getting so close! I never EVER thought I'd see it but it's possible now and I'm so excited about it!!!!

Here's today's menu:
B: 2 scrambled eggs with a slice of lowfat cheese, 3 slices of bacon and 1/2 bowl of whole wheat cereal with 1% milk
S: no snack
L: cherries and a bottle of water
S: no snack
D: crustless pizza (mozzerella cheese, turkey pepperoni, lean ground beef, mushrooms, onions and peppers with 1/2 cup of n/s/a ice cream for dessert

I didn't make the crustless pizza last night. I went to dinner with my sister, son and two nieces to Ruby Tuesday's instead. I had the cajun grilled tilapia with mashed cauliflower and steamed broccoli with 1/2 cup of n/s/a ice cream when I got home. So it's the pizza tonight.

Exercise and Water Gauge: I did FIRM super cardio sculpt with Nancy Tucker this morning and feel marvelous! Water level was a 4.0. Not too bad for a weekend day.

That's a wrap for Saturday!

wilderness - thanks for the encouragement!

Beth - thanks for the well wishes for weigh in day. I'm happy with my loss even though I won't make my Independence Day challenge loss of 16 pounds, I'll get close.

Jean - I wrote on your journal and pm'd you. Thanks for stopping by. It's nice to have new WISH buddies! Keep up your great work!!!!

Sheree - thanks for stopping by and for posting to my journal. It's so nice to have encouagement!!! This is a labor of love but I know keeping a journal helps me to stay focused. I so agree with you that I could never be around 100 pounds. That is just unrealistic. So you're another shortie, I see I'm in good company. Again, thanks for posting and I'll see you on our thread!

TigerBear - thanks for posting and for the encouragement! WISH is just a wonderful place with wonderfully supportive people just like you!

Doe - Hi sweetie! How wonderful of you to keep up with us while you are on vacation! I posted to your journal and want to wish you a continued good time. Please give that mousse a try at Epcot. Boy is it yummy and decadent. I kept thinking to myself, this is sugar free? Did you try Mission Space? That's my new favorite ride. Well, continue to have a good time and we'll "see" you when you get back!

Lisa,

Congrats on the loss.:Pinkbounc I hear you on the whole scale issue. I have thought I am either going to go and buy a new one that is more accurate:rolleyes: or I am putting it away. I am fitting better into some of my other clothes even though the scale is barely moving.

I have read part of your trip report. Very good notes you took. Thank you.

Throwing away the scale for a month!! Are you crazy? Just kidding. That sounds like a wonderful idea. I hate my scale too. I do get down when I go and it doesn't say what I want it to say. I want it down now, not later. It is discouraging isn't it, despite the clothes that you are wearing being loose and your body feeling great. Think about it, it might do you some good. Can you imagine what it would say at the end of a month????

June 20, 2004 (Sunday) Day 204 on the Beach

A friend of mine gave me a really cute form fitting short sleeved black top a few months ago but it was way to tight to wear. This morning was I was getting ready for worship, I put on my new tan short skirt and my new size 16 button down white blouse that was too tight last week. It fit better but DH said it looked tight across my back and it felt snug too. I was running late (what else is new) so I instinctively reached in the closet and grabbed the black top and it fit perfectly! I was so happy. I got a lot of compliments on it too. It is just awesome watching my body change and fit into clothes that were too tight just a few short weeks ago. Take that scale!

I forgot to post yesterday that with this 1.5 pounds I lost this week, I have claimed my 65 pound clippie! Yay!!!!!

Here's today's menu:
B: 1/2 bowl of whole wheat cereal, 2 scrambled eggs with a slice of low fat cheese and 3 slices of bacon
S: no snacks today
L: fried light bologna sandwich on whole wheat bread with mayo, lettuce and tomato and some cherries
D: shrimp alfredo over whole wheat linguine with 1/2 cup of n/s/a ice cream for dessert

Exercise and Water Gauge: I did FIRM super cardio sculpt for my work out this morning. Water level was a 4.5.

That's a wrap for Sunday!

wilderness - Thanks for stopping by and for the encouragement about my weight loss. I know my trip report is epic in proportion. I love reading detailed trip reports but everyone may not and that's why I put how long it is in the thread subject line. It was fun reliving the trip from my notes. My little sis read it and gave her seal of approval before I posted! :)

Sheree - it is scary thinking about giving up the scale for a month. I was thinking the same thing you posted, imagine what the scale would say after a month. It would be nice to see a nice 5-8 pound drop at one time. We'll see if I'm brave enough. I'm thinking about starting a "stay off the scale" challenge on the main Wish board.

Lisa, if you do the scale challenge, I'll be right there with ya. By the way, congrats on that 65 pound clippie!

Lisa,

Congrats on the new clippie!:Pinkbounc I haven't checked if you started the no scale challenge but if you did, I may very seriously join you. My clothes are getting looser but that darn scale is barely moving.   It is soooooo frustrating.

I love reading your trip report. I love that it is long and full of details. I hope I can stay OP like you when I am there. I feel like I will cheat every now and again but I am ok with that if I stay OP for the majority of the trip. We will see. Have a great day. :D

Sheree - thanks for letting me know you'd join me in a stay off the scale challenge. I'm pretty sure I'm going to do it. It just takes a bit of courage, you know? I'm used to daily knowing what my weight is and this will be a strange new experience but with my WISH buddies I know I can do it!

wilderness - I'm glad you're enjoying my trip report. I can't believe how long it turned out. I typed in WordPerfect first and it's 16 pages so that's why I broke it up a bit. I'm pretty sure about starting the scale challenge. I haven't done it yet but I'll let you know when I do. It will start the day after the 4th of July challenge ends. I'm sure we can do it if we stick together!

Way to go Lisa! :Pinkbounc Congratulations on the new clippie!:jumping1:

I read through your trip report and it is really good! I love the details in it and it sounds like you and your sister had a wonderful time!:Pinkbounc Your sister is very blessed to have a sister like you who will take her to WDW. I wish my brother was that nice.;)

Have a wonderful week Lisa!:sunny:

Tracy:wave2:

P.S. I got Calorie Killer at Walmart the other day for about $6. This is a really good video! I highly recommend it!:Pinkbounc

June 21, 2004 (Monday) Day 205 on the Beach

I am pretty sure I'm going to start a stay off the scale challenge as soon as the 4th of July one is done. I am doing my best to stay off the scale except official weigh in day and it's kind of liberating not knowing exactly how much I weigh every single day. I know my clothes fit well and I get lots of compliments on how I look. I can walk around so much better now adays than I used to be able to so I shouldn't let the scale dictate how I feel about myself. Brave talk, I know but I think I am liking this not weighing everyday thing. It lets me dwell on the progress I have made and not think negative thoughts about how much work I have left to do.

Here's my menu:
B: 1/2 bowl of whole wheat cereal and 2 small sausage patties
S: Dannon light and fit peach yogurt (4 oz.)
L: tuna salad with 8 whole wheat crackers and a peach
S: cherries
D: toppings off 3 slices of pizza and 2 hot wings with ranch dressing and a 1/2 cup of n/s/a ice cream for dessert

Exercise and Water Gauge:
FIRM cardio sculpt blaster with Lisa Kay for my work out this morning. Water level was a 5.5. Pretty good.

That's a wrap for Monday!

Tracy - thanks for reading my trip report. My sister and I did have a wonderful time. I am so grateful to own DVC and love sharing it with my family. DH and I have taken my brother and sister and b-i-l with us to Hilton Head; I've taken my sister and two nieces to Disney last year and then this year being able to take another sister to Disney. In November 8 of us are going to Hilton Head and then at least 12 of us will be at OKW in the summer of 2006. It's just so much fun sharing the joy of Disney with family! Thanks for letting know about the calorie killer work out. I'll have to see if I can find it. Have a good day!

Hiya Lisa! Your menus always look so good to me! And now I am craving hot wings! LOL! Have a great day and now that I know your trip report is posted I'll have to swing in that direction to check it out!

~Amanda

Thanks for the PM, Lisa. I will look for the videos next time I'm in Walmart.

I give you credit for trying to stay off the scale. It really is a bad habit. My weight fluctuates by 2-3 pounds on a daily basis. Going by our clothes is so much better, huh?

I have to get on the ball soon and start planning our next vacation in April. Problem is, my husband wants to do a few days at Universal this time and the rest of the week at Disney. I've been studying Mousesavers to get a feel for codes and discounts available. I'm wondering if I even have time for this and maybe just dump it into a TA's lap, one of the Disney specialists like Dreams or Small World. Oh well.

Hope your week is going well!
Jean

Hi Lisa,

I just finished with your trip report. Thanks. It was detailed and interesting. It sounds like you had a great time and have a great relationship with your sister!

June 22, 2004 (Tuesday) Day 206 on the Beach

I made it through another morning without weighing. Two days in a row! Yay me!

I want to start a personal excerise challenge and see how many days in a row I can work out. Today makes 7 days. I was so tempted to stay in bed but like someone said on the other board I frequent, you don't have to be motivated to exercise. There are lots of things in life we do even though we may not feel like doing them, like going to work, paying bills and doing yard work. We do these things because they have to be done whether we feel motivated to do them or not!

That was my motivation this morning to get out the bed even though I thought about taking a rest day today. I'm so glad I worked out anyway. I feel so good and would have felt bad had I not done my work out.

I think I've been eating too may whole grains per day. I usually have whole wheat cereal for breakfast, whole wheat crackers for lunch and then sometimes a grain or whole wheat product for dinner (like tonight and tomorrow night with the 1/2 cup of rice). I wonder if this is effecting my weight loss. I used to lose anywhere from 2 to 3.5 pounds per week and now it's 1/2 pound to 2 pounds. I'm going to try to cut down on some of these grains and see if I notice a difference.

I'm considering going back to Phase 1 for a week or two by the end of the summer if I'm not happy with my weight loss over the next few weeks.

I want to comment about the stretch marks I've noticed on my poor tummy. Yuck! What is up with that? I know I ballooned up to 282.5 pounds and had a kid but it looks like someone branded me with an iron on both sides of my stomach. Sorry for the gross visual. But I was so proud of how flat my stomach is getting now it's all floppy (excess skin) and has these discolored wavy looking lines going up and down both sides. I wonder if there is anything I can do about them. I also wonder about the flappy skin. I do work out just about everyday and I'd never consider a tummy tuck. I guess it's ab work, ab work, ab work for me!

Here is today's menu:
B: 1/2 bowl of whole wheat cereal and 2 small sauage patties
S: Dannon light and fit strawberry 4 oz. yogurt
L: tuna salad with 9 whole wheat crackers and a peach
S: cherries
D: beef stroganoff over long grain converted rice with either 1/2 cup of n/s/a ice cream or a peach for dessert

Exercise and Water Gauge: I did FIRM super body sculpt (upper and lower) this morning for my work out. Water level was a 5.5. Very good!

That's a wrap for Tuesday!

Amanda - I hope you get a chance to read my trip report. Warning: it is long! My hot wings were excellent! I love them. I hae a recipe from the lowcarbfriends site for "Heroine" wings. They are supposed to be so good they are addicting like heroine. I'll try them this coming week and let you know what I think. I told DH about them and he just rolled his eyes and said no wings can be that good. We'll see!

AuroraluvsPhillip - it's not easy staying off the scale but I feel so down when I'm up a pound or 2 so it's actually helped improved my mental health! Or at least that's how I'm looking at it. I wanna go back to Universal so bad! I loved staying at the Portofino and the front of the line access can't be beat. Have a reat trip in the spring! We're doing Disney's Hilton Head Resort for Thanksgiving week and next year DH wants Vegas so it will be 2006 until I get back to Disney. Sigh.

wilderness - I'm so glad you enjoyed my trip report. Little sis and I had a blast! She can't stop talking about it! I can't wait until the whole family goes in 2006.

I can tell you now Lisa that Heroin wings are addicting. I make them alot and DH loves them. Enjoy! Although if you don't like chicken wings (which my DH doesn't) it also works really well with chicken breast tenders.

I did read your whole report but my computer was being stupid and not letting me leave any feedback - your report was awesome!

Lisa sit down and think for a minute - you have lost 65 lbs very quickly (no to quickly but still quickly). Your weight loss could be slowing down because your body doesn't have as much to lose. Remember that the slimmer you get the less your body has to shed. Try adjusting the grains but don't be to disappointed if it doesn't work - losing .5 to 2 lbs per week is still really great.

In regards to your stomach - stretch marks are pretty much scars that won't go away. But for your excess skin I would try some lotions that contain skin firming ingredients. And you will want to apply it twice a day. It will help your skin to bounce or shrink back. With age and weight your skin loses some elasticty (sp?) and it needs help to go back in place. You may also want to try cocoa butter - I know people have used that to prevent stretch marks - maybe it could help as well.

I have a great lotion that I use but it is not on the market because it is privately distributed. If you are interested let me know and I'll get the pricing information for you. I'll warn you now it is not cheap.

~Amanda
