THere is an updated list on the TSA site. I really have not paid too much attention to this, but, it was updated a week or so ago.
I doubt they will totally lift the ban, but, the new regs. do allow for more "stuff" to be carried on.

When I came through Atlanta to Orlando a few days ago they allowed up to 3 oz but only as much as you could fit in a clear, quart sized bag and you needed to have your own bag, I think. You had to put the plastic bag through the xray machine.

From the TSA website:
Each traveler is limited to ONE, QUART-SIZE, clear plastic, zip-top plastic bag [containing only] travel-size toiletries (3 ounces or less [each]).

In addition to the items you put in the clear bag to go through security, you can now carryon liquids or gels (including beverages) purchased in the airport.

Solid "stick" style chapsticks don't need any special treatment. The gooey style would go in your zip-lock quart bag with other liquid/gel items.

Liquid medications that were allowed under the old rules do not have to go in the baggie . . . you may be asked to declare them.

They took away my less than 2 oz jewelry cleaner.....I just let it go....not worth the discussion as far as I was concerned.. that was on October 1.

Please don't laugh, but does anyone know if pies are liquids?

We are already planning Thanksgiving, and I have to fly in on Thursday morning. My mom is really stressed out and I want to bake a pecan and apple pie and just bring them as my carry-on. However, my mom is concerned that a pecan pie is too gel like. Anyone heard of any problems with gooey food substances?

(I may just chance it, as I'll be no worse off if I have to toss them, but they are sure as heck going in the trash. TSA can't have my pie ;) )

Good luck getting an answer to that. I've been trying to find out for MONTHS whether or not the top of my wedding cake would be allowed on board (being our 1-yr anniversary and all). No one can give me a definitive answer. So we are in the same boat.
Serioulsy, if you try or find out some how will you let me know how it worked out because I'd love to bring it along. But I'll leave it if it's going to cause a problem.

I think a pie would be a liquid. But if you can call your local airport TSA office and ask.

We went to Orlando 10/1 and New Orleans TSA told me I could have 1 ziplock bag period. I had all my liquids etc in one but they wanted me to hand over all the others I use to organize my tote-with my cross stitch project, kleenex, etc.

Then on the way home Orlando TSA said I had to run the bag trhough seperate- seperate tray even. And that was after the guard already looked it through and approved it. :confused3

Is there no consistency?

If any of my pies were considered a liquid, I would be VERY upset. LOL
I doubt there would be an issue with a pie or cake, unless they were gel or liquid.

So you can bring small toothpaste, possibly drinks purchased at airport only,. What aboutsmall yoghurts or sandwiches for flight or other food. What about lighters?? My the list goes on and how do you find out. I still think mailing is the best option for toiletries..

No lighters, that is on the TSA site. You can only have the drinks that you purchase in the "sterile area". I am not sure about yogurt, I would not eat that no matter where it came from. Sandwiches are fine, and anything that is not a gel or liquid or jello, yougurt, pudding, should be fine.
Oh, yes, and the other poster's "liquid pies" would not be allowed. I am still trying to picture a "liquid pie" and the only thing I can come up with is a Key Lime Pie Martini, which I am sure would be allowed IF you purchased it in the sterile area. :)
Toiletries, no problem in checked luggage. Save the postage and check the bag.

I still need to mail stuff like breakfast foods, snax and shampoo. As I 'm not taking any chances with lost luggage or spills in packed luggage. We use a cetain type of shampoo and would not be Happy Campers with a week without it Thanks for all the updates I"m sureeach airport willinterpret the regs differently.. Hence so much CONSISTANT inconsistancy :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
