Liquids/Gels on Flights Again???

Shipping luggage definitely sounds like the right answer for folks concerned about baggage service.

The last couple of trips we've taken to checking all our toiletries (except lip gloss & contact stuff) anyway.

we place items in small gear bags,

put them in a large sliding zip bags,

wrap inside of small wheeling suitcase with bubble wrap,

and put the whole bag into a larger one w/beach towels...gives us an extra incase we find lots of souvies to bring home.

only problem we've had is with the suntan lotion that sprays on in a fine mist for kids, it leaked & made a mess in it's bag.

just make sure bag is within weight allowances.

Oh, yes, and the other poster's "liquid pies" would not be allowed. I am still trying to picture a "liquid pie" and the only thing I can come up with is a Key Lime Pie Martini, which I am sure would be allowed IF you purchased it in the sterile area. :)

Ok, ewwwww

It was my question and the pies are not liquid, they are pecan! My mom is just worried that pecan pie might be considered a liquid as it is not completely solid.

The usual rule for foods appears to be that if the "gel-like substance" is part of something else, it is okay.

So p-nut butter in a jar is specifically prohibited, but people have reported having no problem with p-nut butter sandwiches. Likewise, mustard in a jar in excess of 3 oz. is prohibited, but mustard on a turkey sandwich is okay (unless of course you put the turkey sandwich in a blender as was suggested on SNL).

Someone on these boards said they were able to carry on a piece of carrot cake with frosting.

So I would guess that there is a good chance that you could carry on a pecan pie.

Good luck -- Suzanne

I was wondering about make-up type items?

What is considered liquid...concealer, mascara, lispticks, lipgloss?

I guess I will just put my makeup in the quart bag, and declare it all??

It is so confusing!

Of the above. Liquid concealer would be in the bag. Mascara and lipgloss in the bag. Solid concealer and lipstick out of the bag.

And if you put all the makeup in the bag be prepared to be told rudely that "thats NOT suppose to be there" (Yes lets make the rules as confusing as possible and then fuss when travelers don't understand them... Democracy at work....)

I think that a cut pecan pie (a piece) might confuse them because the filling is a gel consistency. However, a whole pie looks very solid, so would probably pass. They would probably end up doing an ETD swab on the pan, anyway, since any pecan pie involves some burnt sugar, and the metal pan will draw attention. I'd say that if you are prepared to let them handle it and perhaps unwrap it, you should be OK.

As for consistency, weren't you listening to Chertoff? The inconsistency is planned, the better to throw the terrorists off stride. (And if you believe that, I've got a nice bridge you might be interested in -- cheap! ;) )

And the rudeness is planned too? (What to do they do when hiring TSA agents... step 1 of the application process YELL... LOUD you'r hired! LOL!)

As for that bridge, the terrorist bought it and loaded it as cargo......

TSA did extensive testing at a secret facility in Apex NC. They ascertained that peanut butter, mustard as well as ketchup and mayonaisse have very explosive potential when in containers of more than 3 ounces. BUT, when exposed to wheat gluten and most other cereal grains are rendered inert. The presence of meat, meat by products, fruit, sugars and marshmellows speeds the conversion to the inert state.

Carrot, however become highly explosive when combined with sugar and even more unstable when sour cream is added.

Hopefully this will aid passengers in preparing for the security check points
