Link reservations with dining plan.

Hi Everyone,

I have a 5 night trip planned for Oct. At first, only the first 4 nights were available, so I made that reservation. Today I lucked out and was able to book the 5th night. My plan is to have the two room reservations linked with the dining plan added for just the first 4 nights (i.e. the first reservation). Is this possible?

I was thinking I could add the dining plan to the first reservation of 4 nights now and then wait until the day before our reservation and link the two room reservations together. If I remember correctly, you can't make any changes to the dining plan within 24 (48?) hours of your reservation, so this way I wouldn't be able to add on the 5th night to the dining plan. Would this work? When is the latest I could link the two room reservations?

If I link the reservations now, then I would have to add the dining plan for all 5 nights.

Thanks for any suggestions.

IMO you are trying to side step Disney's DDP rules. It may work, it may not. Not enough savings for me to take the chance.

The DDP doesn't save much money anymore anyway. We have a 2 night stay coming up, will be getting the deluxe plan, have reservations at Narcoossee's, Boma, The Wave and Yachtsman's Steak House. Our total savings will be $83 for food using the deluxe plan. We do get drink mugs that won't really be used and a few snacks but I don't include them in the savings.

If you go about it that way and are successful you may have to move and will certainly have to go check in again on the change day. Of course doing it to purposefully sidestep the rules is questionable at best.

I would expect them to combine your reservations faster than that and when they do they will cancel the whole dining plan. If you definitely want the plan the call them and add it to the last night, otherwise make sure you are looking for a credit and re-add the plan because you may show up and find no plan if you do what you are looking at doing.

Thanks for all the comments.

Some of the comments make me feel like I am "breaking the rules", but what I am asking about it is what are the rules and what will be done in my situation?

Let me rephrase it:

I have one reservation for 4 nights with the dining plan (just added it) and I have a second reservation for the 5th night w/o the dining plan. I would like to link the 2 reservations together a day or two before my first reservation starts.
Can I link the two reservations together 24-48 hours in advance?
How will this effect my dining plan?
Will it be cancelled and I will "lose" it?
Will I need to repurchase the dining plan for the full five nights?
Will I be able to keep the dining plan for the first 4 nights and not have it for the 5th night?

Thanks again for any comments pertaining to the above situation.

Are you trying to stay in the same room for all nights?

As has been reported in the past, DVC will recognize the continuing reservation in advance of 48 hour window, link the reservations themselves, and cancel the dining plan automatically. The only notice you'll have is the refund on your credit card.

The rules are you have to change categories of room or resorts to not have the dining plan for all the nights of a reservation. At this point most of the time if you are staying in the same category of room DVC will automatically link those reservations at some point. Since the dining plan is on 1 reservation and not on the other they will automatically cancel the dining plan when they link the reservations.

The rules state you cannot have a dining plan for only part of a reservation (by this it means staying in the same room). Even if you link the reservations just before you arrive either the dining plan will be completely canceled or you will have to add it for the 5th night. You can either have all with the plan or none with it- your way of trying to circumvent the rules won't work since it will still be more than 48 hours before that reservation starts.

Thank you very much for explaining! I will not be changing room categories or resorts and I think that is were I was stuck in my thought process (I have read several posts on how people were able to have one type of dining plan for part of their stay and then nothing or another type of plan for the rest of their stay and this is probably how/why they were able to do that).

Looks like the easiest will be to have the two reservations linked now and then decide if I want to do the dining for all 5 nights or none at all.

Thanks again!

Since you are staying in the same room for all nights, you shouldn't link reservations you should modify the first reservation to include the 5th night. Less chance of problems like having to visit the front desk, checking out and back in, magic bands not working, room charging not working, and other issues.

Can they do that? I just tell the DVC CM to modify the first reservation? I thought that linking them was the same thing, but it sounds like it's not.

Thanks for your suggestion!

You have plenty of time before check in, just send MS a message via the contact email form on the member website.

Give them both reservation numbers and ask them to modify the first reservation. They will send you an email when it's done, current processing time is 5 days.

As stated in the OP you would be breaking the intent of the rules and being purposefully dishonest trying to bypass the rules. Your clarifications makes more sense and suggests you were simply trying to figure out the ground rules and options. Enjoy your trip.

Chances are Ms might combine the reservations anyway they often don't leave continuing reservations for the same group separate.
