UUGGGHHH....
HI you guys...I am popping in for a sec but I only have a sec cuz I had a late shift and have to go in in the morning. Diet has been bad lately and so has exercise, but life goes on. Some possible good things going on at work, too soon to tell for sure. It still sucks right now, but some legal things are pending.
Also heard an unsubstantiated rumor that a couple of 10-6 shifts are on next years schedule. I would be thrilled if I could get a straight shift! Hope its true.
Kevs band competition was great. They won their class, and came in third in the finals. They were great, I was impressed.
Some not so good stuff for kev tho. I got a request for a parent-teacher conference last week, which I cant attend because of work of course. So I email the teacher and she responds....kev isnt doing well in algebra...talking ..not turning in homework etc. WTH! They just put him in the "fast" class 2 weeks ago! So why did they do that, and 1 week later tell me hes not doing well? I am so confused. But I showed him the email and told him to get it in gear.
I think he is very smart, and does well on the tests...and is blowing off the classwork maybe. BTW GO CARDS!
My team beat Miami! Yeah baby! It was awesome!

Wow , I sure spoke too soon on the "things are getting better at work" statement. Today was pure hell.
Heres the scenario. We have to put in our leave requests in october for the following year. Last year for some unknown reason that I cant even remember I put in for the first week in october. Since I work weekends, I always have to put in extra days to cover across the weekend while Kev is off school. So I had put in for 48 hours of leave. Kev always has a week off in october. But its not that week. I am guessing that the following years school schedule wasnt out yet so I just guessed, and badly. As time went on, I figured out when his break really was, and that he had a band competition that week so we couldnt go anywhere anyway. Absolutely forgot about the week I put in for. Fast forward to this year.
Our schedules come out 28 days in advance. So the schedule with the week of leave came out on sept. 3rd. This is the first day of the new imposed work rules. We still havent been briefed on what exactly all the rules are, but they are official as of this date. I look at the schedule and see I'm off. Oops! I dont have enough days of leave left to take it! If I do I will be 43 hours in the hole and wont be able to take any time off until after Jan. 14th. So I ask a controller, who is working a supervisor position at the time, to cancel my leave request and put me back on the schedule. He does it and I am now ok. Fast forward to today.
My supervisor, takes me and the union rep in his office and says....the controller who cancelled my leave had no right to do so, and since we have enough people on the schedule for those days, you have to take the leave! What???? They are going to force me to take leave, even tho it will put me so far in the hole.??? I started to argue....it doesnt make sense....thats not what the new "contract" says. What it says is "leave may be cancelled with management approval" My supe says the direction they were given was to deny leave cancellation unless the shift was short. It doesnt say that....of course it doesnt.....who would believe it, and they would be roundly critisized and rebuked by everyone. So instead the just brief the supes to do it.
This is only for meanness. No other reason. It is to put us in our place. I am a 20 year veteran controller with no separation errors ever, and a perfect work record. And today they reduced me to sobbing in the break room. It was horrible. The union rep wouldnt let me talk, just took me aside and said"dont worry, I'll take care if it" I just want to say, I was crying because it was such a slap in the face and humiliating. It wasnt just because I would be put in a difficult situation. I need to have leave available because I'm a single mom. Sometimes I get calls that Kev overslept and missed the bus and I have to run home and get him. I have to have leave to do this. Every minute counts. If I'm gone 15 minutes thats 15 mins "vacation" I've used.
I was upset for all of us, not just me, and how horrible it is now.
Fast forward 2 hours later. I am working position, and a controller comes in and says "Jeff just about ripped his head off" (meaning the manager) I say "what?" He says, "yes, I was a witness, jeff took me in there with him as a witness and I thought I was gonna have to pull him off him." Anyway, whatever he said, I got put back on the schedule and dont have to take the leave! Thanks to Jeff!
So it ended up good, but just the fact that it happened is soooo dissapointing. I have to say tho that my supe said he was "directed" to do it, I dont think he wanted to. Also another supe came up to me and put his arm around me and said he was sorry that so many bad things were happening. I'm so glad you had Jeff to pull that guys head out of his butt!!! Don't you hate it when you get so mad you cry??!! Why don't guys do that?? It's just not fair!

Got thru today without any controversy. And it was friday for me and I have 2 days off so I can recuperate! Everyone enjoyed the sandwiches and chips and cookie! I put them in the break room with a sign the said "controllers lunch! Enjoy!" It wasnt too rude I dont think...I didnt say...no management allowed or anything.
Weird ailment bothering me now tho. I feel really stupid but I somehow hurt both my legs. As I told you we have to wear dress clothes now, and specifically no athletic shoes. This has really bothered me because I wear athletic shoes all the time and am uncomfortable in regular shoes. All last winter until it got too hot in the stairwell I climbed the stairs at work 4 times a day. Great exercise, but I was wearing my nikes. Wednesday our elevator went out at work while I was in the tower and I had to walk down the stairs. I dont usually walk down, just up, and of course not in dress shoes. So I walk down 20 flights and by the time I get to the bottom my legs are all shaky. Weird but I'm ok. (this was the horrible day so I had much more going on to worry about). This morning my legs hurt. My calves are really stiff and they hurt. I cant really walk down stairs at all, just kind of turning sideways and backwards, and just walking is really stiff and dorky!
I keep trying to stretch them and rub them but nothing is helping, I think I strained my calf muscles! How dorky is that!
I am crossing my fingers that it will be better tomorrow so I can do my walking and start getting in gear again!

Thanks Amber. My legs are fine now, that was just weird. I think its that I'm getting old!
Things are still BLLLLLAAAHHHH. But at least I'm not crying all the time or anything. At work today the union rep and one of the managers pulled me aside on a break, and I said..."aw come on, cant I go a week without having to have a meeting?" But they just wanted my advice on scheduling vacations for next year. Doesnt that figure? They wont guarantee any vacation anymore, so theyre asking me how many people to try to get leave at once. And everyone hated my answer. I said 2 plus one midshifter. Last year we were able to put 6 or 7 on leave at once. But we have less people now and with no guarantees. I mean heres the scenario. We could let 4 people off at once, but with no guarantee, probably 2 of those wouldnt actually get it. And they wouldnt know they werent getting it until the last minute. I figure, if we put less on leave at once, you at least can feel some confidence that you would get it. But of course that means way less people will get the spring break, summer break times that they want. Oh, well, it was the best I could come up with.
OK, I also had the opportunity to exhibit my Parenting skills this weekend. OMG I almost freaked out. My son has a myspace page. (I know bad bad bad) but heres the deal, I have his code, and I check it all the time to make sure its ok. Well he had a situation with a friend this weekend, and got really mad at him. ( I wont bore you with details, but it was legit). I check his page saturday night and his headline says "Coots a f****ing p*ssy. He did put the symbols in, didnt use the real words, but still. (coot is nickname for his friend). Well I immediately delete the headline, so now I'm outed...he will know Ive been narcing on him. I also check his friends pages. They leave "comments" for each other that others can read. On one of his friends pages he wrote....ha ha I think we should kill coot lol. Holy crap! I cant delete it its on someone elses page! So I had to have a long talk with him, explaining that you cant threaten people, even in jest, certainly not in writing. That he could be in big trouble and he had to get his friend to delete the comment. (which he did) Long Long LOng conversations explaining how hurtful this would be if coot read it, how he could be in big trouble if anyone ever hurt coot, etc etc. I think I did ok, mom- wise. Wore me out tho.
Food has been horrible....you know those halloween oreos? I do.
No exercise either.
I did good today tho, and am trying to get it back together. It will get better.
I'm very excited my brother will get here in a week, with my baby nephew and niece who I have never seen! They are 3 and 1, special needs adoptions (my brother the saint!) The little boy was born to a drug addict and hes suffered alot, but is doing very well now. Almost caught up developmentally, and so cute! Unfortunately he has MD. So at some point he will start to lose his muscles, but for now he is ok. (Pray for a cure for this soon) The little girl was a crack baby. She is perfectly fine, except really tiny. No bad effects from the drugs, developmentally shes on track. Also adorable. I will take some pics and post them after they come.

I say BRAVO on the parenting skills!!! That's not right to post that kind of stuff. Stay tuff...he'll appreciate it in the long run!!! (and feel free to come and practice your skills on my kids!!)

Made it thru another day. Kinda sad tho. theres a 10-6 shift (straight shift ) on the new schedule for next year. We're bidding it tomorrow I think. I thought I had a pretty good shot at it but it looks like someone ahead of me wants it! So I'm not sure where I'll end up now Number 7 in seniority and I still have no clue what to do!
We'll see! I may be back on Mondays and tuesdays off. The reason things are so weird this time is the schedule posted looks like thi basically
E , E, E/D , D/M, D/M...which is this...1st shift 1800 (6pm) 2nd shift 1300 (1pm) 3rd shift either 10am, 7am, or 6 am, 4 shift either 6am or mid 5 shift eeither 6am or mid. Ok..I know you arent following this but it means you could start out at 6pm, then 1pm then 6am then mid, then mid AGAIN. We thought it couldnt get worse but we were wrong. Thats 4 out of 5 shifts with a quick turn plus 2 mids! YUck. I hope the NTSB really investigates this, and doesnt just sweep it under the rug!
Anyways.....enough whining for tonite! later!

My boy has another band competition tomorrow. His dad is going to be there. This is kind of a big deal, his dad doesnt see him but maybe once a year or so. Kev kept saying he wanted him to come and I kept saying call him and ask him. He finally did today. He was stressing over the call and I kept saying, just call him. Whenever he actually calls him it is fine, but for some reason he really hates doing it, and his dad never will. I hope they win! I am going also, so I hope the weather stays good!
Anyway, it will be a looong day, and I am hoping it wont be too hard to not eat a bunch of junk. Wish me luck on that!

More parenting tips today! LOL, I found 27 glasses in my sons bedroom. Seriously...27! It was almost too funny to get very mad about it. His reaction was You actually counted them? Yes I actually did.
I exercised today!
4 miles in 73 mins. Not great I know thats a bit over 18 min miles, but its a start!
Yesterday I think I did really good at the band competition. I was there for almost 10 hours and all I had was 2 hot dogs, a little box of popcorn and 2 sugar free puddings I brought from home to keep me from snacking. Very good considering. My sons band came in 3rd place, and his dad actually showed up so that was good. His drumline came in first. This competition was judged differently, a lot of the pionts went to "visual" and "overall effect". The band that won was definitely the best tho, so I was glad. Usually they just seem to give it to the biggest one, and this band wasnt that big, but they were awesome.
Food today was good too. Well okay, not like health food, but not calories either. I found these chocolate bars, I think its Lindt...not sure if I got the name right. Anyway its 85% cocoa. Wow, talk about dark chocolate. Anyway 4 squares is 5 grams sugar. I only eat 2 squares and that is plenty for even my mega-chocoholism problems!

Wow, talk about dark chocolate. Anyway 4 squares is 5 grams sugar. I only eat 2 squares and that is plenty for even my mega-chocoholism problems!

Somehow, I gained 2 lbs by walking those 4 miles I guess! Or maybe it was the 2 hotdogs on Saturday? I'm hoping it was some anomaly, and it will be gone again tomorrow.
Today was good again, no problems. Only 20 mins exercise, but I worked until 9pm, so thats gonna have to do.
I picked my schedule at work today. Not great but not too terrible. Crapppy days off (thursday and friday), but the schedule is fixed.....supposedly anyway. Eve/Eve/day/day/day. Of course those days could be 4am days, but no mids. NO mids. No mids is awesome. Only problem remaining is who the supervisor will be. So I need some good thoughts that its NOT MX.
It looks like I may get spring break for vacation next year. (put in for it anyway, they can cancel it if they want). Might have to schedule a little trip to Orlando, if I can save some $$$$$$$$ before then!

Whem I screw up, I like to make it big! Someone brought in an oreo birthday cake today. It would have been rude of me not to eat any. I wouldnt want to be rude. So, a total bust on food and no exercise today.
Asking for some pixie dust and prayers for a friend. Youve seen me mention our union rep Jeff who has helped me out a lot lately. Well his dad had a heart attack today, and he will need some prayers.

I've been a little behind the powerball, as it were. My brother was here with his 2 little babies , he just left wednesday.
I am so happy for him! They are amazing and beautiful kids and I adored them! On friday we took them (and my mom too) to the St James Art Festival. It is in Old Louisville and it is not your average art festival. You have to be something special to get in this one. I love it, but I'm a hippie girl and I love that kind of thing. The thing is, its downtown on Belgravia Court, which is beautiful old mansions on a courtyard area, no roads thru it, and it abuts Central Park. So we went thru the courtyard and looked at all the stuff, bought Kisito cookies, and then went to Central Park to let the kids run. I love it down there sooo much.
Anyway it was funny , I gave them my CRV to drive while they were there and I drove my old mitsu eclipse. After the festival , Dave was looking for a bank so I drove into a parking lot and pulled over to talk to him. It was very sunny and I had left my sunglasses in the other car. (my mom was riding with me). I only had an old broken pair that only had the lense on one side, but it was so bright that I wore them anyway. As I pulled over I forgot I had them on. Well I talked to dave, and we decided on a fast food place, then I drove off.......OOPS. Right over an island! BAM BAM BAM.....nothing like driving up over an island in an eclipse! My mom started laughing, so I did too......then I remembered I had those sunglasses on and I started laughing so hard I couldnt stop.
The next day we took the kids to the worlds largest halloween party at the zoo. It was fun too, the kids loved it. Andrew went right up to all the characters and hugged them. I think we should take him to disney right away because he would love that!
On sunday we had a chili supper at my moms with my cousin and her twins. I hadnt seen the twins since march and I was shocked! They are 2 1/2 yrs old and I swear they are taller than I was in 1st grade! I was teasing their dad about it....gee...must be tough...to be gorgeous statuesque blondes! Seriously, they have this long think curly blonde hair and they dont look 2 at all! Their mom is tall and gorgeous too, so I shouldnt be surprised (she used to always say she must have been switched at birth cuz she didnt belong in our family.....I think I'm a bit insulted
)Anyway it was wonderful having them here. Just a couple of moments that touched my heart. At one point my brother said "we want to do as much now with Andrew as we can while he can still walk" Andrew, as beautiful and wonderful as he is, has Muscular Dysrophy. I dont know enough about this, but apparently he has "the bad kind" I noticed that he cant run. He walks but he cant run. Dave said his feet are already "stiffening" He is delayed, but he seems to be catching up. He seems 2 instead of 3. He is very small and is verbally delayed, but he does talk, and he understands you and knows his colors, etc. I think he can catch up. Karol was born addicted to crack. (Ithink it was crack) She is teeny...16 months old and only 18 lbs. She wears a size 9 months. But she is physically fine, just small. She might be slightly verbally delayed, its too soon to tell. I don think it will be much, she says da-da , wa-wa and DVD! I think at 16 months she should be talking a bit more, but maybe not. But they were so cute, and so good....really...we were dragging them around all over and they had traveled all the way from California, so I thought amazingly good!

Okay, well first of all I cannot believe no one even looked at my beautiful niece and nephew! Geez! And I dont think its eye of the beholder stuff either...they are precious!
Anyway...Chip Challenge. Someone mentioned starting tomorrow and I'm up for that! Oct 16th 30 day no chip challenge!
Exercise today....I ROCK! 4 miles this morning 72 mins (okay so I'm not setting records) and then at work tonite 60 more mins walking for a total of a whopping 132 mins!
Food wasnt so great. I made a pot of chili yesterday and so I had it for lunch and for dinner. There was also an issue of some little chocolate donuts.
