Linda's goal = Lose wt + 1/2 marathon 09(encouragement welcome)

Thanks Susan you are always motivating!

Today I ran 3.1 miles in 30:47,a 9:55 pace,I'll take it.It is that TOM I am probably ANEMIC-LOL!!!!!!!

After that I biked for 6 miles not all out but I did not stop pedaling at all.My friend was supposed to call to go for a walk but I have not heard from her yet.It is actually one of the nicer days we have had in a long time.

Have a good one all.
Linda

Hi Linda,

How is the weather where you live. Are you a morning runner or do you run later in the day.

I have to run first thing in the morning for 2 reasons. It is too hot later in the day, and I am lazy and will find an excuse not to run. :)

Keep up the good work. You are very consistent.

David

HI Linda! How are you! I know getting back out there can be tough, but it will come back. ITA w/ Amy. It's hard for not to want to get faster and faster, but really, what joy is in it if we never enjoy our runs? I would love to be at your pace. It seems fast to me!!! :goodvibes Actually, I would love to just be around 11/12 easy pace. The Disney events are so much fun!!! It's not a place to try to set a World Record. Maybe another venue, but Disney is all about the fun!

You're doing great. Don't let your time goals overshadow that!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Did nothing on Friday, Saturday I walked for about 1 hr with a friend at a good pace.

This a.m. I ran 6 miles in 65:22,a 10:53 pace I think it was.It is so hot out here I did have to stop 2x and find some saliva-felt like I was licking stamps all day! Not my best pace but I have not done 6 in a while so I'll take it.

After the run I biked the same 6 mile route in 30 minutes. Not all out but kept pedaling.Along with the heat today we have wicked wind for some reason.

My DD16 has asked me to lift with her so we started that this week too.

Hope everyone has a good one,

Linda

Nice run Linda. You are doing great. Watch out for the sun and the heat at the same time. Water is very important if you are running over an hour. I HATE running on really windy days.

Here is a cool weather website. The thing I like about it is on the left hand side about half way down you can see what the weather WAS. Look under history. You can put in today or any day.

http://www.wunderground.com/ Just put your zip code in and you are good to go.

6 miles today in 63:33 a 10:35 pace. The weather is gorgeous today! Glad I made it out there this a.m.

Have a great day everyone,
Linda

Yay! Glad you had a good run today. I was out this morning and the weather was nice too. A bit humid, but there was a nice breeze.

Stacie

Hi, Linda. Glad to hear you are enjoying your runs. It does feel good to get the blood pumping, doesn't it? (At least, eventually it does!:goodvibes) Anyway, just wanted to say keep up the good work!

Have a good day!

Susan

Well last Wednesday night after work I attempted 3 miles around the resevoir with a coworker.Well that was a disaster.I had to stop 3 times after 1.5 miles. We started out 2 mins. faster than my normal pace-NOT GOOD!
I was dying.The humidity and temp was intense-93 degrees.STUPID I know.Should never have gone.

After feeling like a loser at the time I was determined to get back out there. So on Sunday I ran 3.1 at home.I have been battling shin splints as well and they make your legs feel like you are in cement. My pace was 11:02.Still slow but with my leg/shin like this I was just glad to get out there.

Today I ran 6 miles in 67:14,a 11:12 pace.UGHHH! I guess the humidity really takes a toll on me.By the time I was done I would not have been able to lick a stamp!I drink alot of water but must not be enough- I drink like a fish like the old saying goes.

I need to get out of this slump before I can think of adding anymore distance.

A nice 70 degree day with no humidity or wind is not to much to ask for.

Linda

Hi Linda,

Just a few more weeks and it will start getting cool again. I had terrible shin splints when I first started running. I sometimes get them a little but not bad anymore. I had some bad advice years ago to "run through them" DON'T do that. You can't run through them. Your muscles have to adapt which takes time.

Here is what I do. I OKed it with my Doctor but you shouldn't do it unless you talk to your Doctor first. I took 800 Mg of Ibuprofen before I went to bed and also another 800 Mg after running. It made a huge difference for me. I still do when I am sore. Ibuprofen isn't nicknamed "runners candy" for nothing. :) Again, OK it with your Doctor first.

Also make sure your shoes are getting worn out. I can usually get 400-500 miles out of a pair of shoes. After 400 miles I replace them when my legs start aching more. Shin splints are one of my warning signs that I need new shoes.

David

Very nice out today.More like it.

This a.m. I ran 6 miles in 62:23,a 10:23 pace. That is better.I want to be around a pace of 9:55-10:00, that was my best in March for this distance(9:55)

I guess when you start over you really start over.

Have a great one everyone,
Linda

Last night walked for an hour with a friend.

I also signed up for the Applefest half in Hollis NH.Looks like fun.DH said to do it if I wanted and he will go along.Yeah, weekend for us!

Linda

Hey Linda! Glad to see your pace is improving and that makes you happy!

What did you sign up for at DW? The Half or the Full? I think Applefest will be fun. I've heard good things about it.

Stacie

Hi, Linda. Sorry I haven't been around in so long - LTO sometimes!

It sounds like you're getting faster all the time! When and where is the Applefest run? Will you and DH have some time to do touristy stuff, or will it just be do the race and go home? I hope you get some relaxation time, too - you deserve it!

Keep going - you're doing super! Have a good week.

Susan

Hi Linda! Looks like your pace is coming along nicely! Great job getting all those runs in! The cooler temps this week should help a bit too...the weather has been awesome here in the North East!

As for Applefest...no worries about the hills girl, I know you train in Massachusetts so you're used to the hills. The course profile shows one relatively steep hill toward the end of the race. The first 6 miles however are net downhill. I think there is a link on the website to view the profile. FYI...we did finally sign up. It's going to be a great half marathon :).

Good to hear from you guys!

This week was a bust with the exception of DH and myself ressurected our tennis game. That was fun.Not much else to report.

Hope next week is better.

Linda
