Day 3, January 3, 2001 â Breakfast with Pooh, MGM and Fantasmic Disappointment
Mickey called Christina again to get us up. She didnâÂÂt want to get moving until I reminded her that she was having breakfast today with Pooh. We all got ourselves ready, left the mousekeeping envelope, grabbed the camcorder, then went downstairs to ArtistâÂÂs Point. We were a bit early, and waited in the lounge until they called us. We got a nice table in the center of the room. At that point I discovered that IâÂÂd left the autograph book in the room. A quick dash upstairs to retrieve it, and I came huffing and puffing back to discover IâÂÂd already missed Pooh! I was quite disappointed, but the CM told us heâÂÂd almost certainly come back.
We enjoyed this meal a lot. The food here is quite good, and Christina actually ate a good bit this morning. Also, Pooh was very sweet (I think he was new, cause I saw the CM manager giving him lots of instructions), Tigger was very bouncy and animated, and I had a great time with Eeyore. Eeyore is my personal favorite, and he gave us all a lot of attention. All told we saw each character at least 2 times, and saw Pooh 3 times.
After our breakfast, we went back up to the room to load our stuff for MGM. We got out to the bus stop around 8:40. Then we waited and waited for our bus! It seemed to take forever, and no hot chocolate to keep us occupied today. I think we must have waited a good 25 minutes, and many people waited longer than that. Finally, the bus came and we were on our way, arriving at MGM around 9:20 to 9:30. We made our way up the street, stopping at Celebrity 5&10 to buy a Guest of Honor badge for Christina and some âÂÂfuzzyâ Minnie ears. Then we checked the schedule and headed for fast passes for Voyage of Little Mermaid. Then we hopped in line for the next show of Bear in the Big Blue House. We waited about 10-15 minutes for the next show to begin seating. We got fairly good seats, about 5 deep on the right hand side. Christina liked this show and had a good time doing the Bear Cha Cha Cha for us!
Next we saw the Voyage of the Little Mermaid. After this show Christina spotted the Princess dresses outside the show. She really, really wanted one, but we didnâÂÂt want to drag them around all day. I told her weâÂÂd see later. Then we headed over to the Hunchback stage. Just outside the big turquoise gate we say Snow White and Meg. We got in MegâÂÂs line because it was shorter. This turned out to be a good move because they were about to go on break! We got MegâÂÂs autograph and picture, then moved on past the Great Movie Ride. Clyde says heâÂÂd like to get his picture with Meg, too! Does anyone know why the big circular area in front of GMR is boarded off? On the way to Hunchback we picked up fast passes for Star Tours. We got to Hunchback in time to get great seats in the center near the end of the runway. We waited about 20-25 minutes for the show. We really enjoyed the juggler preshow! Hunchback was fabulous, as always! After the show Christina got to shake hands with Quasimodo and touch the goat puppet!
Next up was Star Tours. Once more Christina refused to go in! We traded off and went on my very favorite ride! I almost went again with ChristinaâÂÂs fast pass, but we were ready to move on to something else! During our wait, I told Christina that if she cooperated with us and had a good attitude when we did things we wanted to do, that IâÂÂd buy her a Princess dress. She bought on this, but it seemed to make Clyde mad. I think he thought we shouldnâÂÂt be bribing her so much.
We staked out front row spots for the Mulan parade. WeâÂÂd never seen this before, and probably wonâÂÂt see it again! Maybe theyâÂÂll update it to a new one soon.
Anyway, we did Indiana Jones next. We got a big pretzel to share here for our lunch! (WeâÂÂd been snacking out of my pouch during the day.) It was fun, but the ball didnâÂÂt roll this time! Christina thought the guys were really getting hurt in the fight scenes, and we had a few bad moments until she saw them get up!
Next we went over to do the Animation tour. It was great! We all really enjoyed this, even Christina. I enjoyed the movie with Robin Williams and Walter Cronkite a lot.
After the tour, we went to the Brown Derby to check in for our 5:00 PS. We waited a bit, then were seated at a very nice table. I really like the atmosphere in this restaurant. It isnâÂÂt crowded and looks very nice. I had a Cosmopolitan, the Oyster Brie Bisque, and the Cobb Salad. Christina had Mickey Mac and Cheese (she ate about half) and was most impressed by the Blue Mickey Mouse Straws (our CM gave us 2)! Clyde had salad, and port tenderloins. The meal was quite good. I really loved the soup and bread, but I probably wonâÂÂt have the Cobb salad again as a whole meal. Maybe for a starter to a meal!
After the meal we had to stop for the Princess Dress. Unfortunately, they had only 1 dress in ChristinaâÂÂs size (Cinderella model) and she really wanted the Sleeping Beauty dress. It took us a long time to get this transaction accomplished (had to talk around buying the shoes, crown and wand, etc.). Then, Clyde asked me to wait and keep her occupied until he made a purchase. His transaction took forever!
I was very nervous about making Fantasmic, which is my favorite of all the nighttime shows. I hadnâÂÂt made PS for the Fantasmic Dinner Package because I didnâÂÂt think it would be very busy, and I expected to be on our way by 6:00 from a 5:00 PS. Wrong on all counts! It was well after 6:15 before we left the Brown Derby, and then after the shopping time we headed for the stage area about 6:40 for the 7:00 show. We got just past the Beauty and the Beast theatre and the line started there! I was very disheartened, thinking there was no way we would get in! We waited about 5 minutes, then the announcement that there was no more room was made. I was literally in tears to hear this! I think the combinations of bad events (delayed flight, missed tea, short e night, etc) finally caught up to me.
I was too bummed out to try to do anything else, so we headed for the bus stop. It didnâÂÂt take us long to get a bus, and we sat in the very back. I cried part of the way home, but was a bit better after we got there. It seemed like all my good planning was going down the tubes!
Somehow, Christina talked me into going to the pool since we were back âÂÂearlyâÂÂ. Up in our room, we admired the âÂÂBeanie Hammockâ our maid had left us, then we got into suits and bathrobes and headed down. The heated pool was still frigid!!! Christina paddled about a bit, then I talked her into going into the âÂÂcoolâ hot tub. This was a lot better. Clyde arrived about then. He played with Christina while I got into the âÂÂHotâ hot tub. This was pretty nice, but I made the mistake of going back to the cool one to let Clyde trade out with me! After the hot one it was too cool there! When we got out to go to the room it was REALLY cold!!!! We shivered our way into our robes, and Clyde and Christina headed for the room. I took my dripping blue self into Roaring Forks for more Hot Cocoa and Tea! Armed with hot beverages I made my way back up to the room. Yes, Wlers, I was the blue tinted woman with dripping hair in a flowered bathrobe and tennis shoes in the elevator on 1/3/01 at 8:30! I got some interesting looks on that trip from RF to room!
Christina was tired out and fell asleep before her hot cocoa was cool enough to drink! I stayed up and watched the ELP from our room. As I said in an earlier post, you could see the lake well from our room, but there was a stand of trees off to the left side by the lake. The ELP unfortunately stopped with lots of the little floats behind this stand of trees. You could still see it, but the view would have been better from the other side of center of the Lodge. I enjoyed it, even with the reduced view. Then, off to bed after leaving a 6:00 wake up call, hoping for a better day tomorrow at the MK!
