Like Mother, Like Daughter - I've Turned Her Into a Disney Freak!

Great TR! I agree, Jack Sparrow is. That's funny about Stacy-we have a love/hate relationship with her.:lmao: I can't wait for the next day's adventures...popcorn:: BTW, what is the food porn thread?? I may need to check this one out.....

Thanks for coming over at checking out my TR, DisneyBarlans - I'm so enjoying your pix on the holiday thread!

And, yes, you MUST check the food porn and the alcohol porn threads:

I love the matching tshirts! We had the same Jack last summer and I have some of those exact same pictures!

I'm glad you and your DD enjoyed your day of relaxing.

Thanks for reading! Yes, he was a mighty-fine Jack! And, a little relaxing goes a l-o-n-g way!

Great report! I am really enjoying reading about the mother/daughter trip. My DD8 and I have been on a few of those since we live so close and my husband is not a Disney fan. :confused3 Great memories!

Love the hairdo you go your daughter - what a great idea!

The ice-cream sandwiches at the bakery are on my list for next trip - the look awesome! That and goofy's candy co are two treats we definately have to try!

I'm the same way with unpacking - must be done on the first day!

Very sweet about the pin your daughter gave you. I can only hope my DD is still as sweet as she is now when she is 12!

Now I'm hungry for a taylor ham sandwich.

My DD and I love to watch Stacy also - must do whenever we are in the room.

Can't wait to hear about the rest of your trip!

Oh - you live close to WDW? Lucky duck! I really would like to make these mother/daughter trips a yearly event - hopefully DD will continue to want to vacation with me!

Bakery ice cream sandwiches are very good - just huge! Dont' make the same mistake we did and order more than one though - it's a horrible waste of perfectly good cookie and ice cream!

As for our gal, Stacey - her "must-sees" are also on YouTube, if you ever need a fix in between trips! Thanks for reading!

Oh, and btw - have you ever had a taylor ham sandwich - the offical state sandwich of NJ? Delish - get it on a buttered roll or bagel with fried egg and cheese - soooo good!

OK, first of all, anyone who's ever been to Hilton Head and ventured over to Harbor Town under the big oak tree definitely knows this song! Gregg Russell, the writer of the song, has been performing there for YEARS!!! So much fun!

Cammie - yup, love me some Capt Jack! I don't know how Disney does it, but in my mind, it IS Johnny Depp!!!

And I soooo know what you mean about popping off the bra first thing! Men don't know what they're missing!!! :rotfl:

Seriously, I think that's why I'm smiling so much - I really believe for a little while that is IS Johnny!

And so glad to hear you can commiserate with the "bra" remark - I was starting to think I was the only one!

Ohhh another July baby!!:lovestruc Tell her happy birthday!!:dance3:

Thanks for the DD's birthday wishes - we had a very nice day! I'm also a July baby - the 18th!

That would be my boys' dream, I'm sure- your DS must be AMAZING!!! He's a pitcher?

Cammie - Sorry for going O/T here but we're feeling a little down after traveling to Hattiesburg for DS's baseball tourny, the game he was scheduled to pitch was rained out, he was so very disappointed.:sad1:

Ellen, he has been a pitcher since age 11. He just recently got a baseball scholarship to a local community college, we're so very proud. Here's a couple of links to an article and a pic from a few months ago when he pitched his first no-hitter:

Cam, again sorry to go O/T, just slap me when we see each other.:rotfl: LOVING your T/R so very much!!!

Thanks for the info on Stacey - I'm going to check youtube right now! My daughter will be thrilled.

Oh yes - I've had the taylor ham sandwich - the best! I was actually born in NJ but we moved to Florida when I was a baby. My parents both grew up there and I still have family there. We are going for a visit in August and I will definately have to have one of those sandwiches now!

Sorry about the game being rained out, Kathy. But what a son you've got there! Good job and I don't blame you for being so proud!

Oh how I love Captain Jack Sparrow!

Love your matching shirts, too!

I think Capt. Jack needs to start recruiting some women for his pirate tutorials! He certainly would have enough volunteers!

As for our shirts - the credit needs to go to the talented DISers on the creative design boards. I've had a few made so far; used one design for this trip but have others that I'm saving for our Nov. trip when I'm with both of my girls!:thumbsup2

So sorry about not pitching this weekend- DS9 had a similar experience this Saturday when the coach messed up & pulled him out at 2 innings and he couldn't put him back in for the rest of the game (tournament rules)- DS9 was  . Thanks for posting the pic and article- very impressive!!!:cheer2:

Cammie, thanks for reminding me about fries and gravy- I haven't had that in FOREVER and it's DELISH!!!

Hey Cammie! Great TR! I am loving the time you are sharing with your DD. That pin she gave you is so precious. I'm sure you'll stay close - you have built a solid foundation. Can't wait to read more! Oh, and I've seen that Taylor Ham on Travel Channel - looks good.

I can't remember what time he performs but it is a WONDERFUL fun show! Enjoy!

Hey! Just found your TR and I am really enjoying it. I was wondering what type of bag your red one is. I need a new one and I like the look of yours. Is it comfortable and does it hold a good bit? Thanks.

Hi reelmon! Thanks for stopping by!

The bag I was using was an Overland Donner bag. I had first heard about them on the Dis; got mine for a steal at REI.com - the outlet store - for @$30! This was the second Disney trip I used it for and I felt it held alot. The main inside compartment is very roomy and they're alot of additional pockets for cell phone, sun glasses, water bottles, etc. I know some people have complained about the strap digging into their neck; the only time the strap bothered me was when I was sunburned. Other than that, it worked out great for me!

I love my Overland Donner bag! No problems with the strap either. Now the Baggalini on the other hand - isn't that what your DD carries??? I have trouble carrying that one because the metal clip digs into my collar bone.....

Yes, DD is carrying a Baggalini. She did complain about the strap, but again, I think it was the sunburn that was bothering her the most! I told her to suck it up though; she was old enough to carry her own things - didn't want her constantly over-stuffing MY bag! By the end of the week, I put an end to her misery and let her go bag-less!

Cammie,

I've just started reading your trip report - AWESOME! I'm subscribing.

I think it's great that you and DD got to spend quality time together - those are special moments! DS & I got to spend some "guy time" together on our trip in May and he is STILL talking about it.

Alan - Your post reminded me of a special time I had with my son. It doesn't have to be a fun-filled vacation (though those are the best kind) to have some quality time. The year before Katrina hit we had to evacuate for Hurricane Ivan and DH was considered "essential" and had to stay. So Kyle and I headed out of town with a friend and her DD and we ended up in Chattanooga, TN. He still talks about that little trip because we had some good Mom/Son time.:goodvibes

Hi Alan! Thanks for coming over! I must admit, I was a lurker on yours - I loved all the pix you took! I was amazed at how much you and your DS accomplished when DW & DD took a break! Seems like you guys got to do alot together. It's nice to know that our kids don't mind spending time with us sometimes, doesn't it?

On a side note, I'd also like to mention how impressed I was with some of your DS's food choices - wish my DD would be a little more adventurous like that! Good job!:thumbsup2

Hey Kat! Welcome back!

Promise to get the next installment up tonite; it's been one of those busy errand days!

So, after spending a few hours enjoying our beloved "Stacey" show and snacking on our Goofy treats, we decided to shower and head on out to our favorite park - EPCOT!!!

Since we were going to be in the area, I decided we needed to stop by the Boardwalk first to check on our favorite Disney resort. I decided, then, to take a cab. After checking out a thread on the Transportation board, I had learned that the fare would only be around $20 - worth it, IMO. So we headed out to the front of the WL and had to wait about 10 minutes for a Mears taxi.

DD felt time was a wastin'!
DSC02653.jpg

Cab finally arrived and we were on our away! Soon we saw.......
DSC02654.jpg

DSC02655.jpg

Don't get me wrong - the WL is beautiful; but the BW is HOME!
DSC02656.jpg

Relaxing on the back porch (well, "pretend" relaxing - we were anxious to get to Epcot!)
DSC02657.jpg

Now, you can call me a freak, but I just HAVE to enter Epcot through the International Gateway. Because we usually stay at the BW, it's the only way I'm used to going in; I can't remember the last time I entered Epcot through FW. It's such a pretty walk from BW to IG; the lines are usually short; I love the music that's playing when you walk through the turnstiles; and, most importantly, you're immediately placed in the middle of WS!

Our priorities: find mom and daughter their two most favorite things in WS. For mom: the Grey Goose Citron Slushie in France......
DSC02664.jpg

DSC02665.jpg

For DD: one of these babies........
DSC02719.jpg

Aaaah - pretzels from Germany! Look at my happy girl!:cutie:
DSC02666.jpg

We were now free to walk around the countries. It was only 6pm and our ADRs in France weren't until 8pm. We decided to head over to FW and check out the FP situation for Soarin' and TestTrack. Tonite was PM EMH at Epcot, yet I was hoping the earlier rain had maybe chased some people away.

I was done with my Citron Slushie, then decided to try another frozen favorite - the Fiesta Margarita from Mexico:
DSC02667.jpg

We walked into the Mexico pavillion and thought we would jump on the ride (I don't even know what they're calling it these days; we just refer to it as the Mexico boat ride). Anyway, I was stopped at the turnstile by a very friendly, but stern, CM who told me I could not take a drink on the ride. Ok, no biggie - but since when? I've certainly been on this ride plenty of times holding a drink; CM says you've never been able to take drinks on. I disagree; and I have a white sweater at home to prove it because I spilled a German dessert wine on it one year during the holidays while on this ride and the stain has yet to be removed. Oh well - like I said, no biggie; we shall return!

We head to FW and check out the electronic board that posts the wait times. It's not looking good. FPs are no longer available, at all, for Soarin' or Test Track. Spaceship Earth has a 70 minute wait! I tell DD not to worry; for I am convinced as the night goes on, the park will empty and we will get on these rides. In the meantime, we head over to Imagination w/ Figment - cute ride; DD always loves it. Then it's over to Nemo.
DSC02671.jpg

I have a soft spot for this ride - Finding Nemo is older DD's favorite movie and the visual stimulation of this movie is fantasmic. I like this ride alot - if only for the fact that it reminds me of her! After the ride, we headed into Turtle Talk w/Crush - but, man it was packed --- and the show was starting for another 20 minutes. Too many little kids; too little standing space! We were out of there!

Had to get a shot of the "golf ball":
DSC02670.jpg

DSC02672.jpg

After a quick stop at Club Cool (yes, I feel we always have to sip the Beverly; and no, I didn't get a picture), it was back to the Mexico pavillion to get on that ride. We traditionally have our first night's dinner in Mexico - we'll be looking forward to that in Nov. Love the atmosphere in here:
DSC02668.jpg

DSC02673.jpg

We headed towards France. Before checking in for dinner, I wanted to get a shot on the bridge over to France. There's usually a photopass photog. here but I was disappointed to see no one tonite. Guess we'll have to make do with my shot:
DSC02674.jpg

On my way to check in at Chefs de France, I'd thought I'd get myself a little something for the wait (it was crowded!):
DSC02676.jpg

The CM at the host desk was very sweet - he was the first CM to wish me a happy birthday. When I told him that he was the first to wish me that on this trip, he replied "But, of course, I'm French. We're sensitive to those things!" He then insisted of taking a pic of DD and I:
DSC02675.jpg

I was very excited to try this restaurant. It was the last of the WS TS that we had never tried before. After about a 15 minute wait, we were finally called!
DSC02677.jpg

DSC02678.jpg

Since I'm reaching my pix post limit, I'll continue with this installment in the next post.

So, we were finally seated for our dinner:

I had to get the Onion soup w/ Gruyere cheese. I had seen pix of this on the food porn thread and thought it looked really good. It was!
DSC02680.jpg

DD ordered her two of her favorite things: chicken fingers and plain pasta - although it was worded much fancier on the menu:
DSC02682.jpg

I ordered the roasted breast of duck and leg confit:
DSC02683.jpg

With the exception of a little too much sauce for my liking, it was very good!

As we finished our dinner, Illuminations was starting outside. We didn't have a great view, but I still felt compelled to take some pix:

DSC02690.jpg

DSC02688.jpg

DSC02686.jpg

I really didn't have room for dessert; but I'm in a French restaurant and I just felt it was my duty - so I ordered the apple crepe w/vanilla ice cream, berries, and caramel sauce. As you'll see, the crepes had the same issues as the dinner:
DSC02689.jpg

TOO MUCH SAUCE!!!

Now, all throughout dinner, DD kept commenting on how cute she thought the pastry chefs were. Our table was located directly across from their work station, so she had a birds-eye view all night. (I'd just like to add here that it freaks me out that my darling youngest child is now noticing the opposite sex!)

First, we needed to do some "vogue-ing" for the camera:
DSC02684.jpg

DSC02685.jpg

I encouraged her to just go over and compliment them on their dessert-making abilities and take a picture. Oh no - she says - too embarassing! Silly child! Does she not know that, as her mother, I will now have NO PROBLEM embarassing her? So up I went; told the boys we really enjoyed the dessert and that DD wanted me to take their picture. They then called her over to join in the picture; which she happily started to oblige ---- until she tripped over her flip-flop! Now - who's embarassing who? They felt bad so bad for her, so they wanted to pose seriously. DD doesn't seem to care at all:

DSC02694.jpg

And, on that note, we were out of there! DD hadn't ordered dessert because she had her heart set on the chocolate mousse from the French pastry shoppe:

DSC02695.jpg

We then made our way back to FW, stopping along the way in Norway to smell the perfume. I love the scent "Laila" that they sell in here and I always make sure I buy a bottle if I'm running low. I didn't need any during this trip, so I just had DD take the obligatory picture with the troll:

DSC02696.jpg

The popular rides still had shockingly long waits; but we decided to bite the bullet and endure the 60 minute wait for Soarin'. We really do like this ride and I definitely can't go on it when older DD is with me because she can't transfer out of her wheelchair, so this was a must-do for us. Thankfully, the wait was made more bearable by a very friendly family of four from Chicago in front of us. They had two young boys, who were adorable, and mom & dad were fun to talk to. Before we knew it, we were up to boarding the ride. As usual, it was alot of fun and too quick - all that waiting for what, 4 minutes? I still like it though!

Since the crowds were still going strong, we decided to leave TestTrack for our next Epcot night. It was now almost midnight and we headed out the front exit (Yuck!) and to the WL bus stop. Had to take a few Epcot at night photos:
DSC02697.jpg

DSC02698.jpg

DSC02700.jpg

Once again, we were out past midnight! Geez - and I thought this trip was going to be relaxing! Who cares? I'm having a blast!

Next day - DHS w/ one goal in mind: ride Toy Story Mania as much as possible!
