Lighting hit our tree this weekend and threw pieces of bark into the house leaving about seven holes in the siding. Will insurance pay for the tree and to get it taken out and away??

I'm not sure, but it's certainly worth a call to the insurance company. Good luck.

Yes, they should cover it. We got nailed by a hailstorm last October, so we're having the siding and roof fixed now, and in June a tree in the front yard got struck by lightning. Allstate loves us - NOT!

How much did you get for the lost tree? I guess it depends on the age of it.

The cost to have it removed and replaced. Wasn't very big, just about 10 ft. Now the siding and the roof...over 20K. Can't match the aluminum, no longer made, so had to reside the whole house. Plus, we had damage to three sides.

We also had lightning hit our tree last month. Our insurance company, State Farm, would only pay $250 toward the tree. It cost us $850 to get it removed. The insurance policy (which cost us $2100) only allows $250 per tree. Our tree was very tall, so we did not really expect the insurance to replace it, but at least thought they would pay to have it removed. The lightning traveled down the tree into our lamp post and damaged several things in our house and blew out the wire to the lamp post. The insurance company did pay for that - LESS the $250 deductible.

I've had this happen more than I care to think about. My ins. would cover the damage to my house and the cost of removing the branches that fell but not the cost of removing the tree. It probably depends who your ins. carrier and the damage to the tree but that is what my ins. said. Our tree was laying on a power line and the ins. co. said that the power co. should remove it and they wouldn't. So another branch fell and caused all kinds of damage. Finally we had to cut the tree down at our expense, it cost $1400.

The tree across the street exploded when it was hit by lighting it was incredable, it threw bark all over the neighborhood.
