Lightening the load: 9 luggage tips

I wish I could travel with just a carry-on! My husband does for business, but he wears a business suit all week and his company pays for his other clothes to be laundered.

When I pack for WDW stuff just seems to multiply as I set it aside to be packed. We usually end up with 1 regular bag each (22"-24"), plus 1 backpack, plus 1 electronics bag, plus stroller bag, plus car seat bag which doubles as the "bag of all sins" that holds last minute additions. And I still do laundry part way through! **sigh**

Interesting article. The first suggestion is to buy good bags. Older bags that are made to last can weight 15-20 pounds empty. Not a problem when the airlines had a 70 lb weight limit but it's easy to go over weight with the older bags and a 50lb limit.

A suggestion not in the article. If you're going to be making a shopping stop at a place like Wal-Mart consider buying your HBA and sunscreen in Orlando. Shouldn't cost any more than buying at home.

I love these tips...I just wish I could put them into practice! I have been a habitual over packer for years...or I severely UNDERPACK!

I wish I could find a happy medium. Last trip to WDW for three days/cruise for four nights/Universal for three days? I took two big suitcases, a carry-on and a HUGE shoulderbag that had my makeup and purse inside it. DH took a small, carryon rolling suitcase and his garment bag. :rotfl:

Then again, I found myself away from home with only one outfit, a pair of heels and a housecoat last month. :confused3

I will practice, I will practice, I will practice. I would love to travel lighter!

A dear friend of ours whose husband is from Ireland has a great strategy for packing for trips:

Put everything you think you're going to need on the bed next to the suitcases; then put half the stuff back, bring twice the money and they're off.

I like the "half the stuff, twice the money" standard, since it seems that if you're missing something you put back in the drawer, you can always buy a replacement (or maybe something better) when you are at your destination.

especially since last January...first time we check luggage (thought I'd "splurge", and take some comfort items, ie, pillow, and linens), and guess what happens...
:earseek: :earseek: :earseek:
...and it's still "lost"...

*sigh*

January 23 and counting... :hourglass

If it doesn't fit in backpack or a roller, it ain't goin'!!

:sunny:
