Just finished reading Life of Pi and I absolutely loved this book! :cool1:

I feel I understood the author's meaning in all other aspects but need some help figuring out what exactly the algae island and meercats symbolized. :scratchin I've been wracking my brain over this and would love to hear your comments. :listen:

Please feel free to share your thoughts...I am completely open to anything! :goodvibes

Hi there,

It's been about two years since I read this book. So unfortunately I can't give you any thoughts on those subjects. I remember the island but not the meerkats.

It was a strange book for me. I read it all the way through and, really, couldn't put it down until I was finished. However, the graphic descriptions of life on the boat were too much for me at times, too gruesome. I understand why though and thought that the book posed lots of questions for the reader. Perhaps one day I will give it another try and see if I get my head round it more.

Glad you enjoyed it!

It's been a year or two since I've read it too, so I would have to refresh my memory. I loved the book!

Thank you for your kind replies. I think it is a very special book and glad others think so too! :goodvibes

Just for the sake of discussion -not a personal attack or anything- I wasn't crazy about the book. We just finished reading it for my book club.

I don't know what the algae island was supposed to mean. I didn't really get that part. I also didn't understand why he would not just leave the tiger on the island. The tiger was a killer!
I also thought that after the blind frenchman the story became less plausible.

I personally believed the sad story at the end. Someone said that shows I don't have faith. (I am a natural skeptic- but I am religious)
I thought the descriptions of the killings ect... were a bit grapic for my tastes.
Just my opinion. Several people in the book club said they enjoyed reading the book more the second time.
