Kudos to you Cynthia!!

I have tried to come up with an idea of something I could sell or a business idea for many years. It really needs to be something you enjoy. Good for you for coming up with something and taking that big step!
Thanks!
I think it's a balance of enjoyment and actually believing in it. I've always struggled with the last part.
The biggest joy for me has been taking the idea of re-creating something for someone but adding something to it that just seemed fun and cool at the time to make it a little more unique and then seeing that idea just GROW.
Her paper turned into about 4 related projects for save the date cards, save the date stickers, invitations, etc, all which got their own "tweak" and saved her hours of cutting! Not to mention minimizing wasted paper.
WOW!!
I think what you are doing is amazing! As someone who scrapbooks, alot, I think you could really go somewhere with your idea.
Being able to do something you enjoy AND get paid for it, is a wonderful thing.
You go girl!! by the way, that is the first, and only time I will ever use that phrase...but I couldn't think of anything else.
I'd like to see a picture of the dress and it's inspiration.
Oh, imagine the disney things you could create!
Well sadly I won't be able to really do all that much Disney wise. Everything is copyrighted or trademarked within an inch of its life. There will be some things I can do that will work but it will be more thematic than truly Disney if that makes sense.....
I am definitely going to need feedback so as a scrapper I'll be hitting you up for it!
If that's ok
It's one thing to make it for personal use, another to sell it for a profit! It's funny, I don't really scrapbook. I do make a fair amount of cards though and you use scrapbook paper for them and it was the wedding invitation paper that spurred it but what I love about the concept is all the potential extensions of it both in print form and digitally.
I've often been so frustrated with traditional scrapbook paper as well as digital thinking...I like this about it but wish it had.....or I love this design but I want it in xx colors.....I've considered making paper before but there is so much already out there I just couldn't see where it would be compelling enough on its own. I think I have come up with a good way to combine some economy of scale in the design, with the customization aspect in a manageable way.
I'll post pictures of the paper set and the dress. Hopefully the dress will fit and I'll like it in person, it won't be here for about a month but in concept it looks perfect for what I had in mind.
Of course now I'm thinking about the shoes to go with it!
Wow, good for you!! I am also a scrapper (not big but I enjoy it) I think if you really enjoy what you are creating it comes through in the product! I would also like to see the dress and bag!
Thanks Mary, I hope so! I completely agree that the best products show the passion put in to them in the end result.
Fingers crossed that I can deliver on that promise.
Right now, you remind me of a scene in "You've Got Mail."
"Closing the shop is the brave thing to do...oh, I know, you don't feel that way right now, you feel like a big fat failure!
But you are daring to dream that your life could be different..."
Or something to that effect.
Cynthia, you are daring to dream that your life could be different. It is always scary. It will always take a lot of work, and it will always seem a little crazy at first. Until you make it your new normal, you will be heading into the unknown.
I think it's a wonderful idea. I think you're creative and you've got the business savvy to back yourself up. GO FOR IT!!!!
I love that scene!
I am terrified about the financial impact and the fear is more losing ground on the job search than it is about doing this per-se. I am very lucky to have had the business background and have written many a business plan.
Things happen for a reason and they happen when they are meant to and I do feel like a bigger hand is at work.
It really helps that I do feel like I know what to do and have a good feeling for how to do it, and while I am sure some of the details will be new and freak me out I do have an amazing array of resources to use and have (for the most part) what suppliers I will need already lined up and know where I need to look for the rest. I do question whether I can make a living on it but at this point I don't have much to lose by trying and everything to gain!
Of course the fact that I am a huge online shopper doesn't hurt either!
The perfectionist in me just wishes I knew more than I do on the design side from a trick and tips standpoint but I will get there.
