Liberty Tree Tavern-No More Character Dining

LTT was my 12 year old's first request for our upcoming trip. When we went two years ago it was one of their favorite character meals (Chef Mickey's being the other).

We ate there on 10/19. It was a fun experience, before MNSSHP. We definitely wouldn't return, if it wasn't for the characters though. The food is edible, & that's about it.

Could you expand on this please? I have 12 of us reserved here on December 30th and we need to be there most of the day to be sure we are in for the NYE fireworks preview.

If you were "stuck" at MK for the day/eve-is this one of the better spots or are would you recommend a another spot (also knowing the char deal is ending). Thanks.

Since you're going, while they still have characters, I'd definitely keep the ADR. It is a great character experience, & the colonial theme is fairly unique (outsite Williamsburg, VA). As for the food, most people will think it's okay. They just won't be wowed by it. Since you're there, it's something to eat. You won't go hungry, but you could find a better meal elsewhere. You just can't find the character, theme combo anywhere else. Does that make sense?

While I understand that people need relaxing meals at MK too, I just don't think that LTT was the character experience to take away. It should have been the Crystal Palace meal. A meal with Mickey and Minnie SHOULD be at MK, the most kid-oriented park. (not saying it's just for kids, but it is the most kid-oriented)

I'm not a fan of Pooh by any means, thinking that in the past decade or so, Pooh staged a massive coup, resulting in the eviction of Mr. Toad, but that's not related to the LTT meal. (Just giving some perspective.)

That being said, I know there's a huge contingent of Pooh fans that will say, "You've got Mickey at Chef Mickey's! Leave Pooh where he is!"

There are quite a few character meals throughout the parks and resorts, and I must say that I tend to avoid all of them. It's doubtful I'd want to eat at LTT without the characters, either.

Unless they overhaul the menu in a major way.

I'm probably in the minority - but I'd love mickey and minnie to be in the castle for at least one meal!!:thumbsup2

With two boys, I don't think we'll ever eat in the castle whilst it is only princesses - could they not mix it up a little bit - say breakfast with mickey and dinner with the princesses???

Excellent point!!!

Yes, thanks. Just one thing though-where else in MK would you say is a better meal? I could call and check availability.

I've eaten at LTT and CP in the MK (so can't compare Tony's, The Plaza or CRT)

I personally would pick Crystal Palace over LTT. I felt that the food was much better at Crystal Palace.

DH and I were very sad when we heard that LTT was no longer going to have characters.
We have eaten here three times and loved it! We probably won't go back w/o the characters. We even got to be the bell family on our last visit.
It was always packed every time, so I can't imagine WHY they would not keep them.
One thing I will say is that it is a very cramped space and I don't think it is very wheelchair accessable. And the bathroom is a disaster.

Maybe they are going to address the issues then bring it back bigger and better?

(here's hoping!)

Or at least replace it with a different character meal somewhere in Magic Kingdom. I think a Pixar one would be a lot of fun.

I was bummed whe I read that LTT was no longer going to be a character meal. It's one of my favorite restuants (all about comfort food that reminds me of grandma), esp. since it has Minnie. Perhaps they're just going on a hiatus and will return with a slightly chnaged cast. Ie: Miko left a few years ago...maybe some other changes are on the way.

Personally I'm not a big fan of CP, but only eat there becuase my girls like Pooh and Friends.

I've eaten at LTT twice now before hard ticket events. It was great for the characters but the food was just ok so we won't be back.

We prefer the food at all the other sit down restaurants a lot more than LTT.

Since you have to stay in MK, your options are severely limited. We haven't eaten at Tony's, but have eaten at the rest. We really like Plaza Restaurant, but that's more of a lunch spot for us. We prefer the experience at LTT over CP. Cindy's is all about dining in the castle, & some in your party may not think it's worth the cost. Honestly, if I were you, I'd keep the LTT ADR. I'm sorry I made you doubt yourself. For your situation, I think you made a good choice. :goodvibes

Not a problem, thanks for the honest opinions. I will leave it and let them know the foods is good, not great, but about as good as we can get at MK.

I am so sad to hear about this. This is my DD's favorite character meal, the only place she gets to interact with Pluto and we have to go atleast twice on every trip. :sad2: My favorite memories of Disney are of EMH nights at MK with DD, always starting with dinner at LTT. *sigh* I really hope that they're just making changes and will bring back the characters. The good thing for us is thay we have an ADR in January before the change, so atleast we'll get to go one more time! That was luck!

For those of you who say you wouldn't eat at LTT without the characters....have you ever had lunch there? Their non-character meal menu is wonderful and though we enjoyed the character meal there, I've always sort of wished they had the regular menu for dinner.

It's really quite a small restaurant in which to have characters- I bet they come up with some other option for Mickey and Minnie- perhaps a buffet in the empty area on the way to Tomorrowland? Where they occasionally have counter service (I've only seen it open to hand out cookies during MVMCP).

While I agree that I wouldn't go there for the family style meal that was served with characters (without the characters), I'd certainly have dinner there with the lunch menu- or a slightly expanded version of it. The crab cake appetizer is delicious.

One of the things that I liked about LTT was that is NOT a buffet.
At CP you have to time your buffet trips so as not to miss the characters.
If you are seated when they are already in your section and the place is crowded... Either sit and wait or potentially miss seeing that character.

Pluto is also at Garden Grill dinner and breakfast and dinner at Chef Mickey.

I agree. LTT made it easy to see the characters, and still being able to enjoy dinner.

We enjoyed LTT dinners for years before the characters, the lunch menu also changed about the same time - I miss the bread bowl stew. I'll be looking forward to returning for quiet dinners in the MK.

Now, if we could only get Tony's open for b'fast again.

Steve

Yeah it's weird but you can head over to the Contemporary on the Monorail at dine at Chef Mickey's. We've only eaten at Liberty Tree Tavern once and it was by far the worst meal we've ever had in WDW. The food was so bag my husband didn't eat anything. When the waiter came to ask if everything was o.k. my DH potitely said that the food wasn't very good. The waiter agreed and said things have be going down hill for a while. We didn't even pay for my husbands meal.

We get to see the character one last time on 01/03. Love the food here but we will miss the characters especially my husband goofy is his favorite.
