Libby Lu, did you like it?

We went to Libby Lu today...Bellevue Square in Washington...the girls wanted to get ready for High School Musical at the Paramount. So, we ended up with 3 (my 2 are on either end, and boyfriend's 1 in the middle) Sharpay wannabees. They loved it, but gotta say, my day would've been happier with less pokey bobby pins everywhere.

We went into LL and my DH wasn't very comfortable in there , my dd15 kind of poked around, my dd7 really liked the Hannah Montana stuff and would have loved to get her hair done. She isn't into Princess' anymore so it she would have chosen either the Hannah Montana or a HSM style, I just couldn't do it.

The sales girl hit me up for an appt (kind of a tough sales pitch, must have been kind of a slow day!).

It certainly isn't my type of store (my style is definatly NW casual!)

Oh...and we don't do Bratz either.

I think a girl aged 7 with glittery makeup is different than one 15 in glittery makeup..I know I loved getting into all kinds of makeup as a kid..as did my older daughter..who is now 18...but neither of us wore glittery.. after we were children..If my 8 yo wants to play in glittery makeup..I don't have a problem with it..As far as looking like a "hoochie mama" ..if mom keeps her eye on the experience..that won't happen.. and.. getting the star treatment..can be a wonderful experience for a child..as long as she is reminded it is pretend...Libby Lu's can be regarded as just that..a place for pretend...

That is definatly a good point.

I guess maybe I'm glad my dd7 wasn't super into it (she would have loved if I said yes, but she didn't ask more than the 1st time, which means "Cool, Mom said yes", but it wouldn't have been the "oh thank you thank you thank you Mommy" )

I agree.

I remember being a kid and loved getting into my mom's make up! And back then she did have some things that were really sparkly. And I've bought some stocking stuffers for my girls (7 year old twins) that were fun and very glittery.

I also loved to play dress up with my mom's high heels and she had this great feather boa that was soooo fun to put on and pretend I was someone glamorous and rich. LOL But that was just for fun as a kid, it's not like I went to high school dressed like that.

As for the Bratz dolls, all 3 of my girls have played with them from a very young age. They are just dolls. Not a role model. My husband and I are the role models for our kids, not their toys.

And some of you on here have seen pics of my girls. For all the playing they've done with those dolls, they are still as un-trampy, as un-hoochie mama, and as un-glittery as can be. They practically border on tom-boyish.

I'm not trying to convince anyone to do anything they don't feel comfortable with regarding the make-up and stuff. But we are all different and we all make different choices. To suggest those of us who do allow the make-up and do allow the Bratz dolls are allowing our kids to look up to poor role models is simply untrue and unfair.

Oh I'm not saying those who do LL don't have good role models. It just makes me glad I have a boy! Just doesn't seem fun to me I guess, just walking by that place gives me a headache. LOL I mean I liked make up and dress up growing up (although I wasn't allowed to run around in public in it until I was older). But even so at DL I would have found that to be a waste of precious DLR time!

I see it the same as when people ask about the barber shop they have at WDW. I can't imagine wanting to do that on vacation either. DL means rides, fun, food! Not beauty shops. But I guess with having two guys in my house with just me, I've lost the need for all that girly stuff. LOL So if others love it, I don't see anything wrong with it really. Just glad I get to walk past there and keep going. LOL

I'm ALL for everyone doing what they feel is ok. I don't care if my dd goes over to a friends house and they have Bratz dolls and they play with them. I choose not to purchase them for my kids.

Besides, with all the Littlest Pet Shop animals & accessories we have, there is no room!

OMG, I hear ya on those Littlest Pet Shop animals!! They have way too many.
Have you ever stepped on one?? OUCH! They usually do a good job of picking them up, but one must have "escaped" and man that hurt to step on with bare feet.

Parenting is tough, but luckily one thing we can all agree on here is a love of Disneyland!

i'm 25 and i love libby lu! i've gotten 3 of the makeovers done, and i've bought some of the shirts too...

my hubby's not too happy when i get them done, but i figure he's not the one wearing the hair pieces.... lol

i figure if done with the right intentions, you'll be fine. there are some really cute shirts and dresses.. (i have some of them myself)

So my DD7 turning 8 and her almost 10 year old friend had a great time at
CLL! I relented and let them get the Pop Princess style and it was cute. The older girl wanted it because of the fake pink head phone and my DD was too shy to admit she wanted the enchanted princess.

Both girls had silver star stickers and eyeshadow and lipgloss applied. They had about a billion bobbypins and a lot of hair spray. Oh,and nail polish with glitter.

The store is alarming with a lot of very bad quality glittery trampy looking tank tops and shirts. We were not buying those.

I purchased the cheapest package which was $25. For that they got the 'do, the glitter, the nails and then the high point for my little ladies. They got to go to a rack in th back and select 5 "goodies" to put in the complimentary drawstring backpack. Cheap bracelets, stickers, little diary, beach ball, barrettes, that kind of thing.

The music level was bearable most of the time, but they turn it up very loud when various parties of little girls were finally done and they got to dance.


I hope to never do it again, but probably will for a special day. The girls really had a good time, and I feel we got a good value.
