Both of mine are 25 yrs old and it's time for new ones.
Any preference or are they all the same?
Do you try them out at the store?
I'm mostly looking for a taller toilet due to knee problems.
Then again mine I swear are as low as the ones at day cares!

We just had a new toilet installed and opted for one with a slightly larger & higher seat. We checked out several stores including Home Depot and Lowes ... the salespeople were really good at showing us different styles, heights and sizes, including models that are designed to be quieter and more water-efficient.

I would definitely recommend a higher one -- much easier to use and to depart from once one is finished! :o

New toilets don't work as well as old ones, due to the mandated "low flow" water consumption. New toilets use 1.5 liters of water per flush, old ones use 2-3 times as much.

It saves plenty of water, unless you need to flush it 2-3 times to get it down.

If the toilets are in good shape, just buy yourself a seat riser, and be happy you can still flush just once.

Yes bring some coffee and the Sunday NY Times

I hate cleaning the toilet, why can't men aim? Sorry, off the subject, new toilets are terrible they don't flush as well. Our toilet used to stop up constantly because it doesn't use as much water. We switched to Scott toilet tissue and it never stops up now. It is also better if you have a septic tank. Maybe this is TOO much information:teeth:

Full of what? My DH doesn't even look at what he's doing....

I can't stop laughing

My cousin had just built a new house, and they have one of those toilets that use less water. I just NOT to get one of those cause it hardly has any pressure and if you use alot of toilet paper, your toilet will over flow. They found out even before moving into their house.

My DD tried to pee in one of the display toilets at Lowes. I stopped her in time, so much for DS watching her for a minute.

Hi all!! My husband and I own a plumbing company - so I thought I'd put my 2 cents in!

The new toilets are terrible because of their low water consumption. However, spend a bit more and get a power flush or gravity flush toilet- WELL worth the money. We have 4 Gerber power flushes in our house and 3 children under 9. We have never had a problem despite the fact that my daugther loves to use the entire roll every time she's in there! If it ever does stop up when first flushing, we just let it sit 2 or 3 minutes and flush again - never have to plunge it. (You do have to get Gerber from a supply store - or have a plumber get it)

American Standard also makes a pressure assist one - called the Cadet. Stay away from Kohler - they are terrible when trying to get parts. Toto brand has G-Max - same principle - also need to get these at a plumbing supply store.

Happy shopping!:hyper:

I work in construction and the plumber swears by American Standard because the toilet's connection to the sanitary line is 1/8" larger than their competitors making it a little more difficult to clog. Not sure on Kohler, their faucets are top notch, but I'm not sure about the toilets.

I agree with Wishinonastar that you should look into a type of pressure assisted toilet. When you flush, the water is at a much higher pressure. I've heard another term for this type of toilet, but I'll refrain.

Toto. Every plumber and plumbing supply store we talked to when we were renovating our upstairs and putting in a bathroom recommended Toto toilets. We bought one, and we love it. Always flushes everything away, never clogs.

They aren't cheap, but they are worth it.

We've got a Toto in our powder room, and it's great. Got some other kind of low-flows upstairs, and we keep the plunger nearby.

We live near the Canadian border. A while back, there was an uproar about folks crossing the border to bring back Canadian toliets since they don't have the same water restrictions.

What we will do for a good flush!
