Let's talk lime green

For our November 2003 trip, my daughter and I bought lime green curling ribbon at Wal-Mart for 50 cents a roll and used it on our luggage (makes it easier to find at the carousels), we bought lime green craft foam and using the pattern from the Home Depot Mickey heads, cut ourselves some foam heads and attached a small safety pin to the back (gotta love those glue guns) and for extra added measure used some of the curling ribbon to turn our "Mickeys" into "Minnies". The first day we were there a girl working in one of the Great Britain shops asked us if we DISed. She is the ONLY DISer we met and we were there 10 days! So be SURE to wear your green EACH and EVERY day! We were so disappointed that we didn't get to meet ALL of you, but hey, we'll be back next November!

IWBMinnie! That is a GREAT idea! I think I will check out Walmart while I am there tomorrow and see what color foam they might have! Then I can make the Ears BIGGER to fit our name! BBMom...you don't think it will fit?:scratchin thanks for the idea IWBMinnie! :teacher:

On my last trip, in March, I didn't wear any lime green and I didn't see anyone else wearing any. And I was looking. On my next trip I plan on wearing something that is lime green, but I haven't made up my mind yet. Has anyone tried the lime green t-shirts that they sell in the Dis store? How could anyone miss that?

I will be wearing my DIS t-shirt, and my DIS pin (purchased on the DIS store), lime green curling ribbons on the front and back of my waist pouch, and lime (sonic) green Mickey heads! Of course, maybe not all at the same time - but every day at least one of these items. If you're looking, you'll surely spot me! I'll be looking for you too!

Went to Home Depot this weekend and got my lime green! I wanted to do something creative with them, so I spruced them up a bit. Just wanted to share them with everyone here. I figured if anyone is looking for ideas for personalizing their lime green Mickey heads, this may help. If you have any questions, just send me a PM. Below is the pic and a detailed description of how I put them together:

LimeGreen.jpg

I am providing the details for those who are interested. I used the Sonic Boom Mickey head paint swatch from Home Depot for the background. The letters were purchased at Staples and the stickers are from Michaels. I'm not quite finished with these yet. I will be taking them back to Staples to have them laminated. The example on the left will be used as a pin for our backpack. I added our user ID in the middle of the Mickey head, the word DIS on one ear and the year we joined the boards (2003) on the other ear. Once laminated, I will be using a small hole punch to place 2 holes at the top of the card between the ears and will attach the tag to the backpack with a safety pin. The other 2 cards will be tied to our luggage. Both cards have a front and back and are each displayed here. For this example, I glued 2 cards together. On one side I added our user ID in the center of the Mickey head and the word DIS along with the year we joined on the right ear. I will be punching the hole in the left Mickey ear, so I left it blank. The back of the card has DIS Boards Member in the center and this time I added the year we joined to the opposite ear since the hole will be in the right ear on this side. Once the tag has been laminated and the hole has been punched, I will be using lime green ribbon to attach to the luggage. The stickers of the characters were originally placed on the card to hide some of the writing on the paint swatches, but ended up adding a nice touch. I am really proud of these and wanted to share them with everyone. Hopefully I was able to give you some ideas for your lime green. I also want people who will be at WDW in May to be on the look out for us! We will be there from May 11-17. Hope to see you there!

JKANOWNIK:

I went to Home Depot last week and picked up a bunch of Mickey heads. Since then, I've been trying to figure out what the heck to do with them. (I also picked up a couple of brochures on the stencil and border display that had four pictures : Mickey, Buzz, Pooh and Belle. Still looking for ideas on those, too.)

What size letters did you use from Michael's? I'd also be interested to know how sturdy they are after you laminate them.

Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that they look fantastic!

Here's another question.... When you meet a fellow DISer, what is proper ettiquette (and pronunciation)?

Hi, I DIS (DIZZ/DISS)

Hi, do you DIS?

I'm a DISSER.

Hey, you look like a DIS! (Could be misconstrued if pronounced DIZ.)

Hi, my name is Anna and I've been on DIS boards for 2 months 4 days 16 hrs and 20 sec :: then to hear "Hi, Anna!" in unison from all over the park::

Colleen, Those tags are AWESOME! I will be copying your idea! I also got the green foam from Walmart...might try one or two of those as well. Everyone is so creative! Keep the ideas coming!

Hello AMaloy314 & WDWCrazzyCunninghams! Thanks! Glad you like them! :wave2:

The letters are from Staples and are 1/4 inch. They are called EZ Stick Letters by Headline Sign. They're made of vinyl and are supposedly permanent. There are 1656 characters in all and we purchased them for less than $5.

Once they are laminated, they will be slightly more flexible than a credit card or driver's license. I have a marriage probate card that is laminated and it is very sturdy.

Personally, DH and I pronounce it as "DIZ." We have never met anyone from these boards yet, but I assume if we see anyone in WDW with lime green, we will just say "Excuse me, are you a member of the DIS Boards?".

JKanownik, wow! There'll be no mistaking that you do the disboards! I used a hole punch and sewed the Mickey to my cloth camera case, which I wear around my neck. So far, I've not met anyone, but I have seen some Mickeys, getting off the monorail as we were getting on, no time to even make eye contact, never mind to chat.

Maybe I'll meet someone on this trip!

Bobbi:D

When were you there? Because I think I heard that and did not read this post until now....Where was your lime green mine was on my Backpack.....::yes::

We did not see another lime green ribbon anywhere and we were there the Thurs befor Easter til the Thurs after....Parks were extremely busy except Easter Morning when we did the whole Magic Kingdom by 2 PM

Wow! All of these limey ideas are terrific!! I am envisioning covering myself and the rest of my crew in lime green when we go June 28 - July 5. :bounce: The kids will just love it! I'll be looking for others DISers (diz), please look for us.

Colleen - you are so creative - adorable tags! I may borrow your idea, if you don't mind. ;)

Can someone please tell me where the DIS store is?

Also is this lime green somehow connected to the Tag Fairy? If not, who is she and where and when might she tag you, and how do you know you've been tagged??

Oh my, so much to remember! :hyper: I may have to write down user names and their related person names for fellow DISers who will be there at the same time. (Did I mention that I'm really bad at remembering names. )

Counting the days...

Anna,
If I see a DIS button or a Lime Green Mickey head Im just pretty sure they are a DISer (I say Dizzer) and I will walk right up and say are you a DISer? I did this once in the Adventure Club, and the person I met said they had been walking through the park all week wearing the Lime Green Mickey Head on thier hat and no one came up to them, and that this was his last night and he finally met someone (im sorry I can't remember his DIS name, I had a few too Many Kungalooshes at this time)

Im usually wearing my DIS button so it is pretty obvious with me since it says DIS on it!!

JKANOWNIK:
Those are awesome! I wish I was that talented....Im serious I don't even think I could handle making those...LOL

JKanownik ~ That is wonderful! I didn't even think of mounting the Mickey on another card. That would make it even sturdier, and then doing back to back plus laminating would make it almost indestructable (unless given to a 2 year old!). Great idea and it looks really sharp. Thanks for sharing your creativity - I have none :wizard:!

Thanks for the compliments everyone! I'm glad you all like them. I have no problem with anyone using my idea. Earlier in this thread there were some folks who were not sure what to do for their lime green, so I posted mine to give people some ideas.

momshark:

Here is the link for the DIS Shop

I don't always remember names either, but I will have my autograph book and fat pen with me. That way if I do meet someone, I can write down their real name and screen name. I will also have my camera which will make it even easier to identify people.

StacyA:

It took me the better part of yesterday to make them. It was so worth it though once I had the final product. I do have a lot of patience when it comes to making crafts. I wish I had the same kind of patience when it come to waiting for May 11th to get here! :hyper:

I still have my metal DIS pin from years ago when someone had them made for us(sorry, I don't remember who it was). I wear it on my lanyard. On my last trip, I met 3 people from the boards. I love those Mickey heads from HD. I'll have to go back and get the lime green ones. At Walmart-in the office supply dept.-they have self-laminating luggage tags. I use them for all sorts of things-except for luggage tags. They come with the plastic loops to put on the luggage or they can be put on a lanyard. I'm going to make me one with the HD Mickey head and wear it on my lanyard in two weeks. Hope I see some more members.

Could it have been when TownCrier made them? That is where I got mine, it was during a DIScon, I think it was 2002 but im not positive, he made them for anyone that was going at that time...I was there but never found him and he was nice enough to mail it to me! :D

JK Thanks for the DIS store link. I know it is probably on the home page if I had just looked... :)

I'm trying to come up with a way to incorporate the antenna balls, a hat - maybe a Mickey ears hat, and the color green. Maybe even bring some lime green paint/hair gel stuff/sunscreen w/ me... Hmmmmm :magnify: :bounce:

JKanownik: thanks for the idea I'll have to run to staples and find those letters. I'll probably spot you at some time around the POFQ or the parks,

OH MY!!! I am so excited! I have looked at those Mickey Heads at HD a million times and thought I would love to do something with those. I always give my DD2 one to play with, she loves the colors! I will be the only one in my party wearing one, I think, I know DH won't wear one. I'm trying to get my dear friend to visit the boards, but were going May 19-24 (20-23 in parks) and this is her FIRST TIME at the world! I am so excited!

Colleen, when are you going to be there? (Or anyone who will be there with us?) I have read so many posts from you and you just seem like somebody I would have fun with. Hope ya'll have a great trip!
