Turkey and Roast Beef for sandwiches used to be $4.99 to $5.99 per pound, now you're lucky if it's $6.99 lb. We are seriously thinking of getting a slicer at Bed Bath, with a 20% coupon it would be $80 then we could bake our own meat. Does anyone have a slicer and are you happy with the way it slices for sandwiches? Is there a better deal out there for a slicer?

We have a slicer that we bought at JC Penney on sale for half off a couple years ago. I use it to slice bread though. And those big sticks of pepperoni for homemade pizza. Other than that, the ones made for home use don't usually slice really well for meat. The reason is that the blade gets "dull" and doesn't slice as thin. The home use slicers don't have sharpeners on them so they never get back to that factory blade. Unless you can take the blade off and get it professionally sharpened, I probably wouldn't buy one. I love my slicer just not for lunch meat. We like ours to be really thin. A decent industrial size slicer starts at $600. If you have a restaurant liquidation center you might be able to find one there. But you will still pay over $100 for one. Can you tell I used to work with slicers?

On the other hand, we buy our meat from the butcher. He sells lunch meat too! Ours charges $4.99 a pound for the same brand that the grocery store is selling for $6.99! He even has prosciutto for only $7.99 a pound!!! I keep trying to find a reason to buy some. LOL So if you have a butcher in your area it might be worth checking out.

I just went into the garage to tel you what bramd mine is but I can't find it. My husband cleaned the garage a few weeks ago and it has vanished. So I can tell you don't bother with the plastic ones. I have killed at least 3 of those.

I bought a very nice metal one that is raised up off the counter. Which I like because you can slice stuff onto waxed paper or a plate. Make sure the blade is adjustable and is easy to use. Make sure it comes apart easily for washing.

Most of all be careful and watch your finger tips!

yeah, that's the one thing I'm worried about, missing fingers *gasp*

DO you remember where you bought it and I hope you find yours and it didn't do a disappearing act like my stuff does if DH cleans up!

6.99 a pound? lucky...I stopped buying lunchmeat years ago when prices rose to 8.99 or more per pound.......around 10 per pound is average here
