and I am an owner of SSR...

Can I make a reservation at:

OKW
VB
HHI
BWV
VWL
BCV
?????

Also, in buying 100 at SSR and 50 at BWV what happens to the 50 points after January 31, 2042?

M*M :D

As it stand now, I don't think so. That isn't to say it might not be possible in the future. I can see DVC refurbishing and offering a reup for those members, which would make those resorts available again.

I think they are gone.

I don't know about the rest of you but I'll just be happy to be alive and healthy in 2041.
However , Most likely you will not be able to book at any other existing DVC resort. If they do build Eagle Pines or any other site I believe they will have the sames ending date ats SSR.
Your other points will be gone.

There will be a lot of interesting things that will have to be worked out prior to the expiration of the original DVC and what happens with SSR and DVCII. There has been some talk of terminating banking and borrowing points for the last year or two because no one wants people to bank their points for the last year and then have a too many points for the rooms available and have a real problem with half the members not able to make a reservation with their last years points. They will want to smooth this out the best they can. I can see a problem if they allow SSR members to borrow points and take up the reservations that last year and again members unable to use their last years points. Maybe SSR members will not be able to bank and borrow either.

I was told they are going to continue to build DVC resorts. So while the older ones will not be open you SSR folks, there will be others to enjoy.

If it's July 1, 2041 you will still be able to make reservations at all DVC resorts. You will NOT be able to make reservations for dates beyond Jan. 31, 2042 as it stands now.

Unless you are buying add-ons of 100 points at SSR and 50 at BWV, you won't be able to make that your initial purchase- you will have to buy 150 at one resort. The fact that BWV expires on Jan. 31, 2042 shouldn't matter at all and any buyer will be made aware of that end date since it is prominently noted in the documents that will be signed.

As it stands now, SSR owners will be able to reserve only at SSR for dates after Jan. 31, 2042, but I'm still confident that DVC will have other options for reservations after that date for those who own on Feb.1, 2042. As of this time, there is no DVCII designation- we're all one big happy family.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see existing DVC resorts leveled and new resorts built after 2042. Even though the resorts will be well maintained through that time, there will come a point when continued maintenance costs on 50+ year old buiildings will become too unpredictable to be viable for new owners. (Rehab expenses at the Contemporary are already very costly and that building is only 32 years old.) In addition, I'd expect a lot of advancement in construction techniques, codes and technology that will make new buildings desirable- instead of trying to sell 50 year old buildings or retrofit then with advanced technology.

Enjoy!

I think extensions or new contracts on existing resorts is likely. They keep re-habbing and being able to afford it with our dues, those buildings will be peachy in 2042 and anything that's not will be rebuilt.

They could offer two choices, 25 or fifty year extensions. Maybe for 25% more. They would then have some contracts to sell again after 25 years. Seems like a long term income generator could be designed pretty easily.

My brain hurts every time this subject comes up. Honestly, it is so far into the future, you can't even speculate.

So let me go ahead and speculate anyway.

Scenario 1: More resorts will be added to the DVCII (50yr term). Extension add-ons will be all the rage. Yes you can make a ressie at any number of resorts.

Scenario 2: The melting of the polar ice caps sinks the state of Florida. WDW is 16ft below sea level. In this case, a ressie may be tough.

Another reason OKW is best!!! OKW is on the area of WDW property that is highest above sea level.

OKW rules!!!

This isn't good. Do people buying SSR realize this fact???

One would hope they read. As to the orginal question, I will be happy to be alive at that point, and questions like this send me up the wall, guess I don't like the "what ifs, should, coulda, woulda" mind set. Planning for tomorrow is about all I can really care about.

I think we are looking to far in advance. In the future with new resorts being added I would hope to think they will have some kind of deal with the owners of the original resorts(BEFORE SSR). I dont see the resorts that they have now will still be here in 40 years.Like the contemporary it will be torn down and rebuilt. They will have to come up with money so hit up the members for money thru extensions of original contracts.
This is just a thought! Dont quote me on this.

This is a very interesting point! We're talking about the DVC resorts that were build in the 1990s (and beyond) - what about the WDW 'hotel' resorts - can the Polynesian, CR, CBR, PO, etc. last another 40 years? So unless Disney just let's the whole place slowly shrivel and die, they're going to have to raze and rebuild a lot of properties.

Hmmmmm......

I like the thought that I've seen here before, "The person making this decision may not even be born yet."

I hope Disney is still a viable corporation. I suspect it will have changed unbelievably to keep up with cultural changes. I hope it is still a family place. If not I won't care what happens to DVC.

Yikes!! We'll be pushing up daisies!!

And unless your 10 now, you'll probably be a grandparent by then and your kids will be making all the decisions!!

All kiidding aside, they will probably have Eagle Pines and others open by then!
And there are still all the other great locations you can go to all over the world!

Sweet gentle Jesus, I hope not!!!! That is, by far, the scariest thing you have ever written.

There are plenty of well known, deluxe hotels throughout the world that are over 100 years old. Sure, they've needed serious work over the years, but nobody had to "raze and rebuild" them.

We'll be close to 90 by then, but our doctors keep telling us we'll live to be 100... guess I'll need some SSR points :)

The only problem will be that all us first-generation owners will want the same room preference: "Elevator building - geriatrically necessary" ;)
