Hey Melissa!

It was Horseshowmom's DD that was going to look for engagement rings with her boyfriend.

I think we would be pretty surprised if DD and her boyfriend were looking right now! :scared1:

But that's okay - this is a long thread and it's easy to get confused. :)

I hope your DD has fun at her camp. The Director sounds like a sweetie. Think she's got a "crush" on him, doesn't she?

You've been really putting in the "Mom Duty" lately with the Safe and Sober Party and the upcoming football camp duties. But it all sounds so worthwhile and so fun too.

Sorry that your friend's graduation party got ruined with the stupid adults and alcohol, but like you said, she shouldn't really be surprised.

DS is working at the lacrosse camp today. It's finally warming up; today started out rainy and cloudy.

We'll have a full weekend with DS's lacrosse camps at the DU camp on Saturday and riding the motorcycle on a Father's Day Run on Sunday. Then we'll take DH out for dinner. Still don't know what to get him, though. Any ideas? What are you guys doing?

Have a good day, all!!:goodvibes

mamacatnv - I thought you were a little confused about the rings, but I didn't mention it, because I get confused very easily myself! :rotfl2:

The Safe and Sober party sounded great. I know it was a little disappointing that the attendance wasn't quite what you'd hoped for, but look at it like this, it gave all of those students (and there were quite a few :thumbsup2 ) who wanted a "better" experience the opportunity/place to have it. Unfortunately, those students are often in the minority, but hooray that they had that alternative (and were rewarded handsomely with the prizes ;) ).

I'm sorry to hear about the ordeal with the graduation party. Sadly, parents seem to contribute to the problems these days (and want to make excuses for the situations that ensue).

Lifeguards are in high demand in our area. In fact, quite a few lakes and pools have had to close to swimming due to a lack of lifeguards.

Good luck with the mass feeding! :rotfl:

Sandy V. - We'll probably have a pretty quiet Father's Day. I think we'll go out for lunch. DD got him a CD that he's been wanting (which took some searching), so he'll be pleased with that.

Update: I'm not supposed to tell anybody until Friday, but I doubt that y'all will run into anybody in my area ;). If you remember, I mentioned awhile back that DD's BF was in the running for a teaching job very near his house (5 miles). He found out yesterday that he's going to be recommended for the job (meaning he'll be hired). He's sooo excited! :thumbsup2

Horseshowmom - congratulations on boyfriend's new teaching job!! That's great. I'm sure he'll be really happy to cut down on the drive time.

Sandy: Thanks for straightening me out - all of a sudden I was soooo lost!

The LaCrosse camp sounds a lot like what DS does with football camp for the local youth league. His coach brings a number of the H.S. players out to help coach the younger kids. They have a lot of fun (The youth league is separate from our own High School camp) I don't have to do anything for the youth league.

For Fathers Day - well DH has these things he calls his Shorty Shorts (see my tag):lmao: he comes home every day and puts them on and lives in them on the weekends. They are old gray sweats that he cut the legs off of - they are way to short, crookedly cut off and full of holes, stains, paint smears etc. then for the finale' he had a hole in the butt seam and ironed on a square dark brown patch:eek: Needless to say, they are hideous and when he goes outside the house to work on the yard, DD wants to just crawl into a hole and die when her friends come over or all the kids are outside on their bikes!
So, we went to the mall and found some new stretchy jersey w/pockets(all of the pre-requisites) shorts that do not fall into the mini skirt category and that is what he is getting! Then we will be having a burial service for the shorts that have had a long and exciting life!

Also, my DH has a very large head and we have been unable to find him a hat to protect his rapidly appearing bald spots. :lmao: The other day he came home with a new badge from work, his was 15 yrs. old and didn't work anymore. The picture on the badge was from 15 years ago, I asked him why he didn't get a new picture and his response was "I have hair in that picture" :rotfl2:

We got him an early Dad's day present when we were at the mall the other day. We got him a hat and had "DAD" embroidered on it - well, lo and behold the hat we got was actually too big:rolleyes: I mean way too big it covered half his ears (picture Dopey with a beard). So he took it back to the store today and the owner replaced it for him, did not charge to re-do the embroidery and charged him wholesale for the hat. The owner remembered us and how we were so undecided about what size to get, plus DS was convinced that it would fit since it was only 2 sizes different from DS's and DS's hats are too small. Anyway, now DH has a hat that actually fits and doesn't sit on top of his head and look stupid or sit over his ears which makes him look stupid. Come Sunday, he will also have decent shorts to go with that hat, we just might actually let him be seen with us in public!

Horseshowmom:
Congrats to BF on the job, my lips are sealed! That is great! Your DD must be so excited!

My DS is water park life guard certified, he could go to just about any water park in the Country, he even talked with a few of the guards at Typhoon Lagoon and they are all trained in the same method.
Around here there are 2 methods.
The community pools use Red Cross Certification and the Water Park uses Ellis for their training. Unfortunately, the 2 don't cross over so DS can't work at the pools and vis versa. DS and I were talking about this last night, he wishes the pools would switch over to Ellis he (of course, because it is his training) feels that they are so much better trained than Red Cross. The City pools actually pay better also, but the water park is more fun! The City pools also have staffing issues because all the kids are at the water park in the summer and then don't want to have to be retrained the Red Cross way.

I agree with you on the S&S points - we rented a whole slew of the big blow up play structures: Velcro wall, bungy run, sumo suits & the jousting, the kids had free reign and really didn't have to wait for anything. The biggest hit and if you ever get involved in something like this I would highly recommend them is the adult size trikes. Those kids were zooming all over with the trikes, there was even a trike polo match going on at one point with a beach ball!

We were instructed to let them be unless there was immediate and certain peril to life and limb, we had 1 rule to enforce, they could not leave unless they went thru the main door and the school police were able to get ahold of a parent and obtain permission - other than that, no holds barred, they got to do all the things they had never been allowed to do: Run in the halls, congregate and socialize in the bathroom, twirl on the hand rails, hang off of the light poles and eat in the gym! What could be better!

Okay, back to reconciling the year end stuff that I have been putting off for months...............

Well HELLOOOOOOOO Ladies!
I have not fallen off the face of the earth, honest...just lost a few things like my computer, my home, MY MIND!!!!!!!!
I have SO much catching up to do, I will have to find the time to reply properly to you all, but for now, thatk you for keeping us in your thoughts and allowing me to vent.
So, surgery was today...and the goos news is it is not cancer!:cool1: The surgeon was able to do the less invasive laparoscopic method and only took the fallopian tubes and ovaries and 90% of the cycts...the remaining 10% is too tangled along her organs to remove and tied into scar tissue. The lab report is still pending but the doctor ( gynecological oncologist) said he would be floored if it was cancerous. She is in the hospital tonight and due to be discharged tomorrow...to me...sigh....and now she is planning on staying until the end of July. I don't think my family will survive that, DH is trying so hard to bite his lip, but our DD have been on an air mattress for almost 3 weeks now, bombed a final, thinks she bombed the ACT 2nd testing...my mom has this obsession with baby powder that has sent my DS allergies into a raging nightmare and coated, yes cooated the entire house with dust and particles...which we discovered led to the issue with the computer and DD's new camera being affected by the volume of powder. It's as if a dustcloud of it opens up in my house each day and just explodes. I have talked to her about it, especially DS allergies, but she keeps sneaking using it. Thank heavens she is being kept overnight tonight at Loyola, at least we have 1 night without her in our business. The ddwonside is now she REALLY cannot do the stairs after surgery and will have to stay in the living room...:sad2:  there goes my one semi- non- taken over spot in the house. I have looked into assisted living for her as I cannot agree to another month like this. My brother who lives here came to the hospital today, brought my Dad who flew in last night from Fl...yep, they did this the complicated way, fly my mom up almost 3 weeks ago, wreak havoc on my failies life, my dad flies up which is a whole 'nother nightmare story that you just would not believe, then surgery today and now I have mom right back again and my dad saying there is no reason for her to return to Fl...ever! Ummmm, hello...that is not how it works, if you two are a mess figure it out between the 2 of you, I am not a hotel or retirement home. So, I am literally out of beds, rooms and patience!
My kids cannot lose their whole summer if she stays...and she is expecting me to fly her back end of July...only my dad says don't bother coming back....HELP!!!!!!!!
My sister is a jerk...my mom called her 2x asking to see her 3 boys, grandsons before surgery...my sister never even bothered to call back!
She is written off as far as I am concerned...a real head case. I don't know what I am supposed to do, but it was my folks decision to move to Fl years ago, everyone's lives have moved on, while we include them , they are very controlling people and will cause me and my family some SERIOUS therapy!
However, the medical news is good, I have done my part, so I can sleep at night knowing I did what I could.
Horshowmom, Sandy, Melissa, Eliza, thank you all for letting me cry on your shoulders...and I know I sound like a brat, I admit it...but without this thread to come to when I can, I think I would have gone looney!
I am heading to bed soon as I'm ready to collapse.
Well, there goes the phone again, need to run!

Pam

I don't think you sound like a brat at all. You sound like somebody who is having to manage more than she ought to on her own (without sibling assistance). Your poor family is bearing the brunt of everything (powder and all :headache: ).

I agree with the assisted living thing. I understand that parents sometimes move in with their children, but I would expect them to do their best not to create problems.Your mother seems quite determined to have things her way regardless of what hardships that might impose on your family. In that situation, you really aren't being left with any other choice.

Good luck!

Update on me:

I'm back from Biloxi. It was very hot, but I never found a chance to get to the beach. I got a lot out of the conference, so that was good. DH said that his sessions were equally productive.

I visited with Scooter this morning, and one of his pupils does not look "right". I'm wondering whether it may be something that developed from the attack last week. :guilty: I asked DD if she had noticed anything this week, and she said no (but he doesn't really let anybody but me get close to him, so she probably wouldn't have seen anything). There was definitely nothing that looked wrong before I left for Biloxi.

I had to do a few things in the office this morning, and then I'm going home to take another look at him. He may need to have our vet look at him. I'm a little bit afraid that he may have gone blind in that eye (which would be made worse due to his handicap). Hopefully, it's just something minor. Poor little boy...

I agree with everything that Horseshowmom wrote, Pam. You aren't a "brat" at all!! :goodvibes The assisted living idea is a very good one for you and your family's sanity. Please continue to vent and know that we're here for you. What on EARTH can a woman do with so much baby powder?!?!?

Melissa, I laughed when I read about your Father's Day gifts. The shorts sound SO perfect!! :lmao: Glad that you can give the other ones a proper burial.

Finally decided on a slew of smaller gifts for DH for Father's Day. He's getting a coffee mug, a pen, a Harley-Davidson shirt, and the movie "Breach" that just came out on DVD. All things that we (me and the kids) think he will like. Plus, I told him this morning to figure out where he wants to go to dinner on Sunday evening because we're all taking him out. I may buy an ice cream cake for home as dessert later, but I don't need the calories!!

Horseshowmom, I hope that Scooter is okay. Fingers crossed for your kitty. DD wants to give Tundra a bath next week, but that dog hates water like none I've ever seen before, so I don't know how in the world this is going to be accomplished!! :scared1:

Eliza, I hope all is well with your DD. Hang in there!!!!!

Have a good weekend, everyone!

Pam:
What a mess – I don’t think you are being a brat I think saint is more in order. You have stated that the relationship with your parents was not good. I’m sorry, why do they deserve you sacrificing your families happiness and well being to take care of them? I truly believe you reap what you sow. I don’t think it is selfish to think about your family first. Sometimes it is really hard to do, but you cannot do it all and need to know and enforce your limits. You are in a very tough position. I think your family needs to come first not your Mother (I know, easier said than done). Your parents are both being selfish and way too demanding.

What has worked well for me in the past is DH takes on the role of the bad guy. He “puts his foot down” when I need him too. This really deflects the heat off of me and since he is not “related” he doesn’t really care if he ticks them off nor does he have any guilt to live with. Try it, it works really well!

Something I had to learn to do with my Mother was to stand up for myself and defend my family so that she didn’t take over and wreak havoc. You need to take a stand with both parents. Sorry about your sister. It seems in every family there is the one that takes on all the responsibility while the rest of the family members pretend it does not involve them or they just don’t care or are too selfish to put in a little effort.

Throw out all baby powder now. What is she going to do, run out to the store?

Assisted Living would be the way to go in my book – I would start looking right now or you may never get rid of Mom. The one really big question is can Mom afford it and is she mobile enough to qualify? The intake social workers generally are pretty knowledgeable about what is out there and available, use them. The next question is: How do you get her there? If you have a Senior Center near by, call them they can also be a huge source of information.

If Dad doesn’t want her back why did he come?

I’m so sorry you are going thru this – you have been on my mind a lot, keep venting here, it really does help.

Sandy:
Ice Cream cake, yummmmm I might have to borrow that idea. Very Big Dog who does not like water needs a bath…………Where is the video camera, this should be good!:lmao:

Horseshowmom:
Oh, I hope Scooter is okay. One of my cats eyes did something funky once and turned out he had scratched it somehow and it diid heal and return to normal over time. I hope whatever it is is little and easily fixed. Glad you are back home safe and sound and that you enjoyed your time in Biloxi.

My Brother and his wife decided last night to drive over tomorrow from San Jose, CA for a quick visit. I was having my carpets cleaned tomorrow and was able to reschedule to this afternoon. My Brother never lands for very long. Can we say a 41 yr. old man with ADHD!

They will show up late in the afternoon, have dinner, sleep, maybe stay for breakfast and then head out again. I am glad he is coming, we have been at each other over the whole Mother issue and we need some chat time.

As long as he stays sober, it’ll be okay – he tends to drink way too much and then he gets all these stupid ideas in his head as to what to do about Mothers care.
Example: On his last rampage he was convinced we had put her in “jail” and that she was going to die within the week.:sad2: He wanted to move her out of the home and find a little cottage somewhere where she could live with all her stuff (she is a severe hoarder) and live happily ever after.(yeah right) He forgets the part about how she doesn’t know how to fix herself something to eat or to shower or not to physically attack people etc……I won’t even tell him that she no longer knows who he is………he would lose it!

Well, ladies - everyone hang in there for the weekend - I just got a call from a friend - we have a basketball tournament snack bar emergency at the High School. Our coordinator and her entire family have a stomach bug:sick: hope they didn't get it from me.:rolleyes1

Actually, one of our local elementary schools (not where my kids go, but the one that is right across the street from the High School) has been stricken with what the Health Dept. thinks is the NoroVirus. 35% of the school population went home sick on Wednesday and another 25% went home yesterday - the Health Dept. closed the school until Monday so they can bleach the heck out of if. We are really hoping that our Coordinator does not have that - the entire area where I live is sick! This sucks!

So, I gotta go cover the snack bar this afternoon and tomorrow morning, great way to spend the weekend! Send some healthy vibes this way, the North Valleys could really use it!

You all take care and have a great weekend.................

I just got a call from a friend - we have a basketball tournament snack bar emergency at the High School.

Were it not for the fact that I've always been involved in this kind of stuff (except horse and softball related ), I would find this very funny (well, actually, I do anyway;) )! :rotfl2: Been there, done that... :rolleyes1

Have a good visit with your brother. It sounds like it can get tough sometimes.

Sandy V. - Good luck with that bath! LOL

Just got off the phone with DD.

DH paid her $50 to paint the shed while we were gone. The horseflies are starting to get bad here, and her Paint horse (predominently white) really draws them. We have to buy the "good stuff" to spray on them. She just got off the phone with BF (who is picking a gallon up for her where at the Co-Op where he's working for the summer). Want to guess how much it's going to cost her? $49.95 :rotfl: Boy, this fiscal reality can be a kick in the teeth sometimes, can't it! ;)

We have a basketball tournament snack bar emergency at the High School.
Been there, done that, with soccer and lacrosse! But I agree with Horseshowmom, it just "sounds" funny when it's written down. Enjoy your snack bar adventure. Feel free to use the ice cream cake idea - it fits with my "I don't have to bake it" rule!!

And, any dog washing of Tundra the Wonder Elkhound will NOT be done by me!! :rotfl: If DD is so concerned with the pooch's hygiene, then she can try and convince her brother and and dad to help. The dog smells and looks fine to me. :)

We have 4 lacrosse games in Denver tomorrow - 9:15, 11:45, 2:15, and 4:45. We live about an hour from the University of Denver, where they are being played, so there's not enough time to come home in-between anything. So it looks like a long but enjoyable day. Supposed to be 90 tomorrow, which we haven't reached since last summer. It's been a cold spring, so I'm actually looking forward to some real HEAT. Just need to remember the sunscreeen so we don't burn!! I don't need to look like a lobster.

Then 2 more lacrosse games on Sunday morning, but I don't think we'll make it to those because we have a motorcycle riding event to attend.

Oh, forgot to tell you . . . DD did go down to visit boyfriend at the wolf preserve on Monday, Tuesday, and part of Wednesday. Had a great time, but had some funny things happen, particularly with sleeping. The wind blew pretty furiously on Monday night, making sleeping in boyfriend's tent pretty difficult. So on Tuesday, they moved their sleeping bags into the visitor center. Now, mind you, this place is very "granola" (this is Colorado, after all ;) ) and it's a very basic structure. Well, after they settled in for the night, DD could hear MICE running around them (she left a food wrapper of some sort out - not a good idea, hon).

DD is just like me - I am absolutely TERRIFIED of mice! So she's lying there wide awake, heart pounding, etc, you get the idea. :scared1: Wakes boyfriend, who is NOT happy about being awakened, but has no fear of mice, so he lets DD sleep next to the wall so the mice will get HIM first if they come near. :lmao: DD kept hearing them, and kept waking up boyfriend, who would pound the floor to "scare" the mice away. Guess they finallly did go to sleep, though. :rotfl2:

Kids!!

Okay, the guy sounds like a keeper - protecting his GF and keeping the mice at bay! :thumbsup2 (Maybe somebody should warn her that they like to run along the walls :rolleyes1 ).

Good luck with the games! :cheer2: It sounds like the softball tournaments we used to do before DD got so involved in horseshowing (which was an all day thing regardless  ).

:lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: That is too funny! I don't know who to feel sorrier for, your DD or her sleep deprived BF! Ewww it makes my skin crawl and I am not afraid of mice, just prefer mine to be in a cage under lock and key like my DD's pet rats!

Poor Tundra :lmao: has no clue what is coming.................

Enjoy your LaCrosse and keep the sunscreen handy - I love those days of sports in the sun, I am able to slowly work on my tan until DH whips out an umbrella and it is all over. There is only 2 things his skin does: Glow in the dark and Burn, that's it!

I so agree with the cake, I hate to bake, I don't have the patience to be that precise. I prefer the toss it in, add a little something here and there, taste and adjust accordingly method of cooking;)

Horseshowmom:
I am horse ignorant. Your DD painted the shed and paint is the type of horse that she needs to spray with some type or repellant for horseflies?

Any word on Scooter? Poor thing!

Okay, the guy sounds like a keeper - protecting his GF and keeping the mice at bay! :thumbsup2 (Maybe somebody should warn her that they like to run along the walls :rolleyes1 ).
If I told her THAT, her red hair would turn WHITE!! And she'd never sleep!

You're right, though, it was very sweet and nice of boyfriend to be her protector. One of the things we like about him.

I am not afraid of mice, just prefer mine to be in a cage under lock and key like my DD's pet rats!
You are a braver woman that I am! I am afraid of all rodent-like creatures. We had a "no mice, no rats, no hamsters, no gerbils, no guinea pigs, no ferrets, no birds, no snakes" (birds and snakes aren't rodents, but I'm scared of them too!) pets rule in our house. I'm a cats and dogs kinda girl.

I think it's the long tail on the mice and rats that really creeps me out!!!:scared1:

I don't mind the rats, but my best friend who lives next door can't stand them, she freaks out when DD has them out and is playing with them in the yard. They are girls and they are actually very cute and smart. DD wanted a hampster-no way, they stink! The rats do not smell at all.

OK - DH just called, with my Brother coming this weekend he has a  We do not have a formal guest room since DD took it when we decided to have her. I told DH that since DS's room is a disaster and DD has a loft bed, that I would put my brother and his wife in our room, then we can sleep in DS's room and DS can go find a couch.

We just took our pop up (tent trailer) camper out of storage for the 4th of July camping trip. DH in his evil little tone (you know the tone, when they are trying to be seductive, but they come across as being a letch) anyway, he says "Well, you and I can go sleep in the camper" :scared1: Ummmmm, I don't think so!

I'm sorry, we live in a subdivision and the camper is in the front driveway. No way am I sleeping out in my driveway - he doesn't understand why I don't find this acceptable - then again he see's nothing wrong with those hideous shorts of his either:rolleyes1

I agree with you! Especially what what it seems he's got in mind as far as "recreational activities" in the pop up. No way would I doing THAT in my driveway with my neighbors so close!!!

Any word on Scooter? Poor thing!

I can see where that might have been a little confusing! :rotfl:

The horse I mentioned is an APHA registered horse (American Paint Horse Association) - generally referred to as a "Paint" (not to be confused with a pinto - Paints are an offshoot of Quarter Horses, but a pinto can be any type of horse that is colored in a pinto pattern).

He is our pride and joy as he was the one who helped her really win a lot of all-around awards. Hopefully, she'll show him again when she finishes with school. Regardless, he'll always have a home with us. Unfortunately, white horses draw horseflies even worse than a darker colored horse. And, yes, that repellant actually costs about $50 a gallon!

We also own AQHA horses referred to as "Quarter Horses" (American Quarter Horse Association) - not to be confused with the mechanical horses out front of Wal-Mart ;). We also have an American Saddlehorse and a Thoroughbred.

I'll be leaving shortly to go check on Scooter. After being gone all week, I'm a lot further behind than I thought I was. I'm hoping for the best. Fortunately, if he needs to go, the vet is open in the morning.

Oh, yes, I know that tone very well! I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only one who things it actually sounds like that! :rotfl:

My DD also has a loft bed. She and DH built it last summer. It made all the difference in the world in her room (she has her desk and tv under it). She has a futon for company. The futon also gives her a comfortable place for her and BF to watch tv when they rent a movie. I wish we had done it years earlier.

Total agreement here! :thumbsup2 :lmao:

And can anyone explain WHY ON EARTH they think they're sounding sexy?!?!?! All I can think of when DH does that is, "Please stop. You're embarassing yourself." :lmao:

Happy Monday, all. :goodvibes

I hope that everyone had a good weekend. Ours was nice.

Had a long day of lacrosse on Saturday, but it was fun. DS had 2 more games on Sunday that we were unable to watch, but he played well. Their team was a compilation of 2 different high school teams plus an additional player from a 3rd high school, and they hadn't practiced much together, so their overall results weren't that great. But DS loves any opportunity that he gets to play, so that's the most important thing. But, boy, is that kid SORE right now!! ;)

Our motorcycle ride was fun yesterday. We had a pancake breakfast before the ride. The women cooked the men breakfast for Father's Day. That turned out well. Glad someone else had griddle duty - my pancakes taste alright but they're certainly not works of art.

It got HOT later in the afternoon about halfway through the ride, but we've had such a cold spring, I certainly didn't mind. Came home and picked up the kids and went to Outback for Father's Day dinner. I was so hungry I could have eaten the Bloomin' Onion we ordered all by myself!! Had some wonderful Sangria punch there - made us think about finding a recipe and making some at home for next weekend.

DH loved his Father's Day gifts, which was good. He's lucky his wife has such great taste. :)

Working at home this week, which is nice. (I work at home 2 weeks out of every 3; I go into the office every 3rd week, which was LAST week. I'm not a fan of getting dressed up to go into the office, although I do like the people there.)

Well, that's about it for now. Post when you can. :cool1:
