Sandy V. - Glad you had such a good weekend. I love pancakes! Also, glad that your son had two good days of lacrosse. The kid must be in great shape!

We had a nice weekend too - pretty peaceful. DH and DD worked on their room for VBS (athletic themed), and it's really cute if I do say so myself. ;) They'll be there from 9 to 12 every morning this week with a room full of 3rd and 4th grade boys (should be pretty busy! :rotfl: ).

Happily, Scooter seems to be fine. I've checked him several times over the weekend, and his pupils look normal. I'm not sure what was going on the other day. He may have run into something :confused3 , but it seems to be okay now. :thumbsup2

Glad that your weekend turned out well, Horseshowmom. The VBS room theme sounds perfect for boys that age.

Also glad to hear that Scooter is on the mend. Poor kitty. DD took Tundra to her room to sleep last night because it was hot in the garage, where she normally sleeps. Tundra did fine until DD woke up around 3:00 a.m. and couldn't go back to sleep. Neither could the dog, so DD took her back downstairs to sleep in the laundry room.

You're right - DS is in great shape!! Kid doesn't have an ounce of fat on his body. I can only WISH for a body like that!! :wizard: Unfortunately, it doesn't look anything like his. ;)

Lacrosse is a good sport for developing all over conditioning because in his position (long stick middie, which is a primarily defensive/transistion to offense role), he spends a lot of time running, using his body as leverage to prevent them from advancing offensively, and he uses his arms for defensive "checks". He's naturally slim, but both his calves and arms are very well developed from use. And he can eat ANYTHING and believe me, his appetite is obscenely huge at age 17! :scared1: The kid is expensive to have around!! :)

And can anyone explain WHY ON EARTH they think they're sounding sexy?!?!?! All I can think of when DH does that is, "Please stop. You're embarassing yourself." :lmao:

Isn't that the truth!:lmao: Dirty old man is how mine comes across:rotfl2:

Horseshowmom:
Thanks for the clarification - we have lots of friends that live all around our subdivision that have horses and DD's best friends Mom runs the equestrian center at UNR but I am a city girl at heart. Always have been and always will be.:upsidedow The rodeo is in town, everyone is all a twitter and all I can think is: Traffic stinks, the animals stink and what is the point of this again?:confused3 :rotfl:

Our kid's rooms are typical sub-divison small. When we bought the house we intended to knock a wall out between the 2 rooms so DS could have a big room. Then we decided to have DD, there went that idea.;) About a year ago I couldn't stand the chaos in her room so we got the loft that has the dresser, bookshelf and desk built into the supports. The underside can hold another bed that it came with but we put that into the garage until she is older and for now her doll house and dress up stuff fits in there perfectly! Other than it is a pain in the neck to make the bed, we love it.

Glad to hear Scooter is doing fine.

Sandy:
Sounds like a great weekend! Glad DH liked his stuff. DS sounds like he was very active - it never ceases to amaze me that even tho DS is in excellent shape and works out all year he still goes thru an amazing amount of Advil and Icy Hot!

Got carpets cleaned Friday afternoon, then off to the HS snack bar until about 6:30, then home to BBQ dinner.

Saturday I was up at 8 (very rare for me) and DH & I headed out to breakfast(McDonalds), Wal-Mart and the butcher shop.

Came home and whipped up a macaroni salad, marinated chicken, made a cucumber salsa, picked up the house, mopped, washed all the bedding & Vacuumed the furniture since my SIL is allergic to cats. I was all done about 3 and made myself a nice cold vodka tonic:rolleyes1

My Brother and his wife arrived around 5 and my DS went to the waterpark to pick up his "Friend" who he has the hots for something fierce, this should be an interesting summer:rolleyes: They heat up their relationship every summer (she goes to a different HS at the opposite end of town) this is the 3rd summer of this although so far this summer is the most intense and the first time she does not have a "boyfriend". She joined us for dinner. We all had a nice dinner and then sat around talking til late. My DH and Brother who are both early birds headed to bed early while SIL and I sat around talking until DS got home around 12:30. DS took his friend home at 11:00 where they stopped for a milkshake and walked around Wal-Mart for 1/2 hour since her curfew is midnight and they had a few spare minutes;) Sleeping arrangements worked out without anyone moving to the driveway much to DH's disappointment!

Yesterday I made a huge breakfast complete with waffles and home made blueberry syrup. Sat around and visited with Brother and SIL until they left at noon. I then headed down the hall with the fat cuddly cat & a good book for a nap! Last night we put the steak back in the fridge and had leftovers since there were so many. We will have the steak tonight.

Learned SIL is deathly afraid of rats!:lmao: My Brother kept getting them out of their cage and terrorizing her, she would not even come into the room if she knew they were out of the cage. :rotfl2:

DH loves his new shorts and DS let him out into the front yard with them on last night:rotfl2: We went to the trash can, all said a few kind words and we threw the gross ones away!

That is about it - Hope you all have a good day.

Pam:
Hope things are going okay with your Mom, I thought of another alternative to Assited Living the other day, look into adult foster care. Generally in a home environment without the institutional feel of other places.

Boy can I relate to that! Football starts up in force today at 4:45 - I need to stock up on carbs & high protein!

Sandy:
I have a question about LaCrosse - is it a contact sport? Do they wear pads like football? Just curious no schools around here have it.

And with the overall price of groceries going up, we're going to be broke before they graduate!

Yes, men's lacrosse is definitely a contact sport, although women's lacrosse is not. The men wear helmets, mouth guards, shoulder pads that extend to cover the chest, elbow pads, and padded gloves. The legs are bare. I swear that DS looks like a gladiator ready for battle when he's suited up!

The pads do a pretty good job of protecting the essentials, but occasionally you get hit in a spot where there isn't a pad. DS has some pretty good "war wounds" after some games.

Don't be surprised if you start seeing more lacrosse in your area over the next few years. It's historically been "big" on the East Coast and has been working its way across the country. They do have so pretty good teams in California already, as evidenced by what we saw this weekend. The NorCal team was in the finals yesterday. From what I understand, it's the fastest growing high school sport in the country.

That would probably be my mother's take on it in a nutshell! :rotfl:

DD would be the first to tell you that there is a big difference in horse shows and rodeos. Rodeo horses frequently sleep tied to their trailers, but horse show horses have well bedded stalls deep with shavings (and have fans in the summer and heaters in the winter). :rotfl2:

:rolleyes1 Oh, so the Rodeo horses are the lower class horses while the show horses are the upper class - well that certainly explains a lot about the folks around here who all go to the Rodeo!:lmao: :rotfl:

Ain't that the truth - my DS eats and eats and eats - he also sleeps alot! Oh and don't forget the cost of all that sports tape he goes thru taping all his limbs together:eek: My brother was watching me cook dinner on Saturday and was amazed at the amount of food I prepared and that DS then consumed at dinner, then an hour later and an hour after that.........You should see what I take camping when he brings a couple of his buddies along!

I know he has said he wishes they had LaCrosse here, sounds like it is alot of fun to play and to watch. Oh well, he gets his own war wounds with football - he and the physical therapist know each other well;) as does my insurance company!

I know I'm in for a financial setback every time DS says, "Mom, you need to take me to the grocery store to buy some food. There's NOTHING to eat here." :scared:

Oh, I dread that! I know the cheapest places in town (Wal-Mart)to find the Power Bars & Yogurt Smoothies he consumes several times a day and try and buy them in bulk, because they are twice as much at the local grocery store!

I sent DS off to the store with my debit card the other day to get a head of lettuce for dinner - $65 later he returned with enough frozen french toast for an army along with cereal, milk and a few other staples(in his book) big mistake!

I haven't been brave enough to do that yet - goodness knows that if I gave him that financial latitude, he'd not only fill the cart with food but he'd also stock up on his shampoo, body wash, and all of his other "essentials". That stuff adds up so quickly!!

DD's BF (the roper) says that our horse show horses are all sissys (sissies?). DD generally gives him a piece of her mind right about that time... :rotfl: (You may be right about that class bias...:rolleyes1)

Lesson learned? :rotfl2:

Sandy V. - You are 100% correct, that stuff does add up fast!

No kidding - what do they do drink that stuff?:confused3 My DS loves the AXE products and goes thru Listerine (due to his braces) almost as fast as he goes thru milk to say nothing of the cost of his "UnderArmour" and don't even get me started on the school fee's:eek:

Unfortunately for us, DS has "outgrown" the Axe stuff and wears men's cologne, which is EVEN MORE expensive. He got a huge bottle of some stuff from DH and I for Christmas, and that has been lasting him for awhile. Heck, it had better!!!

His "thing" is bleaching the top of his head and he uses a variety of hair products. I swear he costs as much or more than DD to maintain!!!

Hey, a man's got to stay competitive in this world! ;) :rotfl2:

Funny, our boys are a little opposite of each other.

DS does have a wonderful bottle of cologne - Ralph Lauren Black that is just yummy but he does not use it every day. He did use it Saturday when he left to go pick up his "Friend" at work - I think there is more to this than "just friends" :rolleyes1
He does use the body washes and body sprays on a daily basis - I love the clean smell that leaks out of the bathroom when he is done.

We went thru the hair phase, bleaching the top then gelling it or spiking it up and other random gravity defying acts. One year he even had the top dyed UNR Blue (I had to keep telling DH "it's only hair":goodvibes ) - the water park only allows "Natural" colors so the blue had to go that summer and since he keeps his hair pretty short because he is in some type of sports/conditioning all year round and he sweats like a pig.

Rats, gotta go to a meeting - it's monday why would I want to actually be working:rolleyes1

Have fun at your meeting. :wave2:

We are okay with the blonde on top since DS has strawberry blond hair and it actually complements his natural color. However, when he wanted to dye it black on top, we convinced him not to. I would LOVE the blue, though!! (But not on my DS - hey I'm a hypocrite!)

Just goes to prove that marketing really does work! :rotfl2: I know several teenage boys who think that stuff is "it" (you know, it makes them irresistible! ). :rotfl:

They do smell so much better but I am old and know that a daily or twice daily shower will get them "it" a lot sooner than a foofoo spray ever will.:rotfl2:
