Well you'd better send me some $$$ for a retainer, so that attorney-client privilege kicks in so I don't have to be bound by some lawyerly-ethics stuff about being sworn to uphold the law!!! ;)
Here,:teleport: a cookie! Does that count?:rotfl2:

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS ALL!
It's Pam, the OP.....
I hav been MIA for quite sometime, until recently...I hit the Budget Board for a few quick posts...
I have not read this thread in ages, I am ashamed of myself for dropping off, but did want to wish everyone well, and when I get the chance, take a few days and catch up with everyone.

On a quick note, DD is still with Art Guy.....this is looking serious, even with college looming...and in a few months she will be dress shopping for Senior prom :rotfl:
My folks health is deteriorating rather rapidly, just taking things one day at a time, and that is one of the main reasons I left the boards for a while

Best to all in '08, and I will try to re-connect,
Take Care!

Pam

:welcome:

Pam, welcome back! As you have probably gathered, we've all been tied up over the holidays. I'm only checking in because I was paying a bill online.

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas!

How interesting about ArtGuy! You just never what twists and turns life can take, do you. :goodvibes

I'm sorry to hear about your parents. I know that can be both stressful and time consuming. My elderly uncle and aunt live next door to us, and we try to help with them (their daughter lives over a hour away).

Best to you for the New Year too! :hourglass

Just a quick overall update!

The horse surprise for DD went well! BF (oops, I keep forgetting, DF) and his mother brought the horse early on Christmas morning. He went in to wake her up and was greeted by "What are YOU doing here? :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:

He had tied the horse to our deck in back of the house. We have a very large picture window that looks out onto it, so as soon as she came into the room, she saw him. His mother had tied a big red bow around his neck, and it was gorgeous.

DD cut her eyes at everybody and asked, "Why is Cisco in the backyard and why does he have a red bow around his neck?" I told her that I thought she was smart enough to figure that one out and laughed. His mother walked in the room (she was hiding until she saw the horse), and DD asked, "Really???".

We went out, and DD kissed him several times, and we made some pictures. Our horse (who had been in the pasture with him when he was visiting before) was THRILLED to have him back. He rubbed all over him, and they've been side by side ever since (I think Cisco was as big of a present for Changer as for DD).

DF got DD a Coach purse for Christmas to accompany the new engagement ring, so she's thrilled! Personally, I'm just a plain old purse kind of girl. :rotfl2: My cousin and brother were warning DF (at our Christmas gathering) that he had made a big mistake, because he couldn't top himself next year! I told him that we bought DD's first horse at age 10, his mother just gave her one at age 20, but at 30 he was on his own. ;)

My brother invited my husband and DD's DF to go with him to the bowl game that our team is playing in. He has sideline passes, so my two guys are thrilled!

I hope everyone had as wonderful a Christmas as we had!

(Sandy, can't wait to hear all about the cruise. I thought about you when I woke up this morning. I know you're having a wonderful time!)

Belated Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!!!

Pam, it is always wonderful to hear from you. It sounds like you are continuing to deal with challenges with your parents' health. I'm sorry to hear that. Please drop by anytime - preferably soon!! I'm also glad that your DD and Art Guy are getting along so well!! :thumbsup2

It is SO hard to put on jeans after wearing shorts for ten days . . .

The cruise was a lot of fun. We went to Belize, Roatan (Honduras) and Grand Cayman.

Belize was pretty, although not very developed at all. At least where we were. That was something that surprised us. We did a cave tubing/ziplining through the trees tour. I loved the ziplining part - you were going pretty fast through the trees far above the jungle floor!!

We really like Roatan, Honduras. It's an island 40 miles north of Honduras. Very pretty and more developed than Belize, although not nearly as much as Grand Cayman. We had a guide drive us around the island - he was fantastic. We stopped at a bay for some of the best snorkeling I've done - lots of beautiful fish. Then we had lunch at a local place with the best coconut shrimp ever!!

Grand Cayman was the last stop. We did the Stingray City tour. That's like what you see on the cruise commercials where folks are swimming with the big stingrays. Really cool. Just think of them as big, friendly, portabello mushrooms!! Since the Caymans are where the rich sink their wealth into offshore accounts, there's a lot of money here. On the boat ride out to see the stingrays, we saw one of Sylvester Stallone's homes. Very large and beautiful.

Yes, I am tanned, and not in a mood to work, but here I am!!!

I regained 5 pounds of what I lost previously, so I am back on the eliptical again today!! The food was fantastic. I never eat a 4 course meal that takes 1 1/2 hours to finish at home, but I did so without a second thought every evening on that ship!!! Amazing what you can get used to. :lmao:

I hope that you all had a great holiday. Horseshowmom, it sounds like the horse was a welcome addition by both your DD and the OTHER horse!! That's neat that your DH and DD's fiance get to go to the bowl game!! :goodvibes

Well, I better start working. I'll write more later when I get the chance!!

Good morning and Happy New Year! :cool1:

Sandy, the cruise sounded absolutely wonderful. What a way to spend Christmas - definitely fun and different! I'm intrigued by the land activities. It sounds like something that we would love to take DD and DF on. I'll definitely have to file it away for future reference! :thumbsup2 It sounds like you ate well and tanned well (and I completely understand about hating to get back into jeans, I'm a shorts and barefoot kind of girl myself! ).

We had a great Christmas this year with a few complications. DH and his sister had to take MIL to the ER Christmas Eve. Her cat had bitten her (just playing), and her arm became infected. This is the 2nd time this has happened. SIL is a nurse, but the doctor wouldn't listen to what she told him about the medications MIL took the last time.

He gave them different medications. Everything was closed (Christmas Eve), so they had to drive to a larger town to a Walgreen's that was open (an extra 60 miles roundtrip). The meds didn't work, so they wound up taking her to a different hospital ER Christmas Day, and she was admitted for several days (got out Saturday).

SIL called last night and was furious. When she got to MIL's/FIL's house to check on them last night, they had a new cat.:headache: Now, I totally understand them keeping the one they have (have had for many years), but why would you add another cat when you know you have this problem (her previous infection was from a different cat, so it's not just "this" cat). SIL told them to give the cat back to the person who gave it to them. Wouldn't you think that would have been a no brainer? :sad2:

When we got back on Monday, the new Supt. will be sworn in and take office (although as far as we can tell, he thinks he's been in office since August).

Our school business officer is a friend of mine. She has worked a huge number of extra (UNPAID) hours doing things that he had requested (which she didn't have to do). At a recent school board meeting, members of his family introduced themselves and told her how much they wanted to thank her for all of the help she had been to him.

I talked to her yesterday, and she just found out that her job is being advertised. I have two issues with this - 1) He's not the supt. yet and 2) he hasn't bothered to fire her yet. Nice guy, huh? This is going to get ugly, I'm afraid, and I'm too bull headed to go quietly. Looks like there will be some fireworks this semester. :rolleyes1

Anyway, welcome back to the U.S.! Melissa, I hope you had a great holiday too!

GOOD MORNING GIRLS!!!!
Happy New Year

Wow - you guys have been busy.
I had to get out of jammie pants and into jeans to come into work, I totally sympathize with Sandy. Of course the alarm going off was also a rude awakening. :scared1: I don't know why the world can't start the day at noon:rolleyes:

Pam:
So good to hear from you:hug:
So, Artguy is still around...........What will DD be wearing to the prom this year?
Sorry to hear about your parents, I hope their declining health is not as draining on you as having your Mother around last summer was.

Sandy:
Your cruise sounds so nice and relaxing to say nothing of a week in the sun tanning, relaxing and eating. Your description of swimming with the rays sounded so amazing! Ziplining, you are a far braver woman than I!
Have you gotten our nasty weather yet?

Horseshowmom:
Parents, :confused3 what ya gonna do with them:rolleyes: I am surprised you didn't tell us you have a new kitty;)
So sorry to read that the Idiot made it thru the Holidays. I was hoping someone would have spiked his eggnog. What a horrible thing to do to your friend. Hopefully his true colors are showing and his support network will come to their senses. He might still be in charge, but if everyone is against you it is harder to get anything accomplished.
The horse surprise sounded really great, I bet the look on her face when the realization sunk in was worth 1000 words.

The kids and I had a great vacation. I started off with my best friend and I going for a massage the Saturday before Christmas. I then spent the next 2 days cooking & candy making - I make a mean butter toffee with peanuts! Similar to peanut brittle but more buttery.
The kids and I cleaned a few closets, cabinets and pantries. My kitchen with the new "coffee" theme looks fabulous! (I had all the stuff in my closet for the last year:sad2: ) We bought the paint for the kid's rooms and ordered the border for DD's room (that is as far as we got:laughing: ) We went shopping, ceramic painting and candle making. We slept til noon and would stay up til 1 or 2 in the morning watching movies. All 3 of us cuddled huddled on 1 couch under a blanket. We baked lots of cookies, they became the 10 p.m. snack! (DH is not a night owl and he worked the second week)

We hosted 17 for Christmas Eve dinner and then 10 on New Years Day for DH's 50th B-Day. Christmas day was spent at the theatre where we saw National Treasure and the Waterhorse. We then went in search of a good steak, nothing was open except the casinos(yuck) so we decided to see if our favorite Chinese food place was open, it was:woohoo: and it was packed. We ordered ALL of our favorites and took home lots of leftovers!

DS hit a really nasty pot hole the Saturday night before Christmas and took out 2 tires, 2 rims and a wheel bearing. :headache: The tires were on the same side so at midnight he calls me to come rescue him. I had to call AAA to get a flatbed tow truck, then he and DH spent another week tracking down rims and getting the tires replaced. The tires were less than a year old and had hazard coverage, so we were able to replace them at about 1/4 the cost that new ones would have cost. (Good thing, they are spendy mud/snow tires) I don't care what the paint job looks like, but we all have really good tires, I am a freak about tires! Les Schwabb and Costco tire shops luv me!

Last Thursday, we battened down the hatches - a huge storm was headed our way. We got hit with 80-120 mph winds. I lost 20' of our fence and so far have 2 large broken windows (the outer panes of double panes) along with several missing roof shingles. Called the ins. co. yesterday. Meanwhile we coerced Deck'ster into coming into the house where he stayed for 2 days (under the hutch or a bed, but at least in a climate controlled environment) On Friday it rained and rained (This is a high desert and rain is rare) we got 2" of rain (1/5th of our annul average) then at 4:20 p.m. (yep, I was watching) the snow turned to "snain" and within minutes into snow. By 5:20 we had 6" of snow  and by Saturday morning we had 18". My best friend and I were laughing at each other, we stocked up on milk, bread, eggs and diapers(she has a toddler) but we neglected to stock up on booze! Her hubby brought a Hummer home from work on Friday and made it to the nearest convenience store to get us beer, then spent 2 days giving us a hard time about his risking life and limb for our beer. :lmao:

Saturday and Sunday found us pretty much house bound so we hooked up the toboggan to the back of Big Ugly the truck and DH pulled the kids around the neighborhood. We also ventured out to the hills that surround our sub division and we went sledding with a friend of DD's and her family. The kids had a 2 hour snow delay yesterday and everyone is back to their regular schedules today. The freeway is clear but the side streets are still ice rinks and now we are supposed to get more snow tonight:headache:

So, that is my update. Glad to see that everyone enjoyed the holidays

Have a great day!

Wow! You've been pretty busy too, huh? With all that decorating, painting, cleaning, cooking, etc., you worked a lot harder than I did. :rotfl2:

I love staying up late watching movies (followed by sleeping late the next morning  )! We went to see National Treasure New Year's Eve and really enjoyed it.

Thank goodness for AAA (and hazard coverage ;) )! I'm glad your son was okay, but I'm really sorry about the damage.

The storm sounds incredible (sorry to hear about your fence, between that and the tires/rims, you have a rough time)! :scared: I'm glad you updated us about Deck'ster, because he was the first thing I thought about. He was really lucky to have y'all. It would have been terrible for him out in all that!

At least you were able to wind it up with some fun in the snow!

BTW: I was afraid that I was going to have a new cat myself when DH told me about the one at his mother's, but thank goodness, the people took it back. :worship:

Things are still very much up in the air here. The staff met with the new Supt. yesterday, and he really didn't tell anybody anything. We're pretty much in the dark about everything at this point.

I started a new diet, and I think I'm going to eat the desk if I don't go home soon. :scared1:

Good to hear from both of you!!

Speaking of car trouble, I was just outside trying to get DS's car up the driveway. Our driveway is 500+ feet long (we live on 2 1/2 acres and the lot is pie-shaped, driveway at the front in the narrowest section of the "pie"). We have only a few inches of snow on the ground but lots of ICE underneath. DS's car is a 1995 BMV, REAR-WHEEL DRIVE, and that does absolutely nothing for your traction! So DS, DD, and I have spent the last hour taking turns pushing and driving. Finally got it in the garage, where it will be spending the next few days until things melt significantly around here.

Melissa, I was wondering if you got hit by all of that northern Nevada stuff. I was especially worried about you and the levies that broke. Then the floodwaters FROZE in certain neighborhoods. Glad that you escaped that.

Sorry about your DS's car trouble. I did the same thing with DD's car when she was a junior and hit the same type of huge pothole. Also took out 2 tires - not fun!!

Glad that your Christmas was fun and hopefully relaxing.

Horseshowmom, sorry about your Christmas in-law "complications". Hope everyone is better now. Hang in there with the job situation!!!!!

Well, gotta get back to work - I liked working 3 days last week - I could get used to that!!! This 5-days stuff is going to kill me!!!

Wow! You've been pretty busy too, huh? With all that decorating, painting, cleaning, cooking, etc., you worked a lot harder than I did. :rotfl2:
One night or I should say early morning my DH comes wandering into the kitchen and asks me what I was doing, I was pounding a nail into the wall, looked at the clock, it was 3:30 a.m. Oops:lmao: poor guy, he is a rooster living in a house of owls!

I love staying up late watching movies (followed by sleeping late the next morning  )! We went to see National Treasure New Year's Eve and really enjoyed it.
We too enjoyed National Treasure, I like those movies. Kinda Indiana Jones with U.S. history thrown in and I love the relationship with the Mom and Dad, I was cracking up when after 32 years they just start in where they obviously left off.

Thank goodness for AAA (and hazard coverage ;) )! I'm glad your son was okay, but I'm really sorry about the damage.
We have had AAA for years and other than travel discounts, this was the first time I had used it for roadside. It was 12:30 a.m. and they had a truck to us in less than 1/2 hour. I was impressed.

The storm sounds incredible (sorry to hear about your fence, between that and the tires/rims, you have a rough time)! :scared: I'm glad you updated us about Deck'ster, because he was the first thing I thought about. He was really lucky to have y'all. It would have been terrible for him out in all that!
In all our years here, that is only the 2nd time we have had wind damage. Our garage door was blown in about 10 years ago and now we have heavy duty reinforced doors on both the openings. We have a triple garage that has the double door and then a single door.
We too were worried about Deck'ster and once we got him in, we wouldn't let him out. We were worried that the snow could have covered up his entrance to whereever it is he goes at night plus with the wind, the poor thing was scared to death. My DS said he saw Deck'ster sleeping on the couch one early morning but he bolted as soon as he realized someone was up. My biggest concern was that he would not be litter box trained, so I put an additional box right in front of his hiding place and so far I don't smell anything so I am hoping the resident cats showed him the ropes.

At least you were able to wind it up with some fun in the snow!
Yep! The kids had a ball, DH would aim for the snow banks so DS could get some air on the sled!

BTW: I was afraid that I was going to have a new cat myself when DH told me about the one at his mother's, but thank goodness, the people took it back. :worship:
Tigger might not have been to happy and another adoptee could have put Chachi over the edge;)

Things are still very much up in the air here. The staff met with the new Supt. yesterday, and he really didn't tell anybody anything. We're pretty much in the dark about everything at this point.
This whole situation keeps you in my thoughts. Hang in there and I will continue to plot ways to "handle" the situation:rolleyes1

I started a new diet, and I think I'm going to eat the desk if I don't go home soon. :scared1:
Insert a good sympathy smilie here:______________

Ahhh, so you looked like several people I saw in the various intersections around here the past few days:lmao: Rear wheel drive, in Colorado?????? I have a good friend who lives about 12 miles from us and they have a killer driveway, it is not paved and turns and climbs at the same time (no way to get a running start) her DH has a big 4 wheel drive truck but her and her DS drive small (Jetta & Scion) front wheel drive cars. They are currently parking at the DS's girlfriends house who lives around the corner from me and DH is shuttling them back and forth.

Melissa, I was wondering if you got hit by all of that northern Nevada stuff. I was especially worried about you and the levies that broke. Then the floodwaters FROZE in certain neighborhoods. Glad that you escaped that.
Those poor people. They awoke to find water in their homes and it was below 20 degrees outside. Most of them do not have flood insurance since they do not live in an area deemed floodable and now they are all at a loss as to what to do next. Fernley is about 30 miles from the main interchange here in the center of town. We have some really good friends that were within 2 blocks of the flooding but we don't directly know anyone who was affected. Last night on the news they showed the latest issue, now the water is receeding but the mud is freezing and resembles hard packed clay, then it defrosts and is ucky and then freezing.......What a mess. The community has really rallied around all those affected. Fernley is a working class neighborhood and the cost of the repairs is going to be astronomical. Fortunately, the President declared it a disaster area yesterday so hopefully they will get some federal help as their insurance companies have already pretty much told them they are on their own which I think is totally wrong. The levee giving way had nothing to do with the storm itself and it was not an "act of God" the levee is older than the surrounding dirt and chose an unfortunate time to give way.
Sorry about your DS's car trouble. I did the same thing with DD's car when she was a junior and hit the same type of huge pothole. Also took out 2 tires - not fun!!
Poor kid, scared the crap out of him. He was in a pretty desolate area and drove the car as far as he could to get to some semblance of civilization.
Well, gotta get back to work - I liked working 3 days last week - I could get used to that!!! This 5-days stuff is going to kill me!!!
I so did not want to come back to work - I told DH that we need to win the lottery so I can stop working.

IT guy needs to update something - I'll be back

Good morning Girls:

How is everyone? We are cold and foggy this morning.
Sorry I got lost last week, I was buried trying to get 3 weeks of work done in a week, but alas I can see the top of my desk, the bills are all paid as are the employees!

How are the diets going? I have not read of any woman going postal due to dieting so I am assuming that you both are keeping it together.:goodvibes

Horseshowmom:
How is the idiot behaving now that he is sworn in?
Have you started looking at other possibilities or are you still in "wait and see" mode? Is the School Business Officer still employed?

How is MIL doing? Has she recovered from her cat bites?

Wasn't your DH and Fiance going to a bowl game? How did it go?

How is Cisco doing?

Sandy:
Has your DS been able to get out of the garage yet?
How are you guys for snow? Any skiing recently?

The weekend was fairly uneventful, I read an entire Tami Haog book "Ashes to Ashes" I really liked it. Good old fashioned serial killer vs. handsome FBI guy who has a thing for the local advocate who just happens to be former FBI.;) Predictable ending but I was still engrossed in it for way too many hours:laughing: Now, I need to go get "Dust to Dust"

The kids and I went to a friends "After the Holidays" party on Saturday night. They live out in the boonies and fireworks are the highlight of the evenings activities. They stock up in the summer in a little tiny town on an Indian Reservation where they can be bought in the state legally and we wait for winter. Now, fireworks are illegal in just about every other corner of Nevada due to the fire danger. So, here we are all out in the driveway, it is about 25 degrees, there is at least a foot of snow on the ground around us and the show begins. (I know, fireworks are illegal:rolleyes1 )A couple of the teen boys (my DS included) are lighting off sparklers and roman candles with the littkle kids when I notice a Sheriff:scared1: standing between some of the cars in the driveway.

:scared: Oh dear, in 10 years of the "after the holidays party" we have never encountered a Sheriff, the house is 13 miles from the main highway and is on a dirt road with what can be a very nasty drieway in the snow/ice. Frankly, they don't usually bother, we are too far out and no one usually cares. As it turns out, one of the newer neighbors is a D.A. and therefore got a very hasty response from the Sheriff who generally cannot be bothered. (Evidently, our friends neglected to invite the new neighbors:rolleyes1 oops) I shooed DS into the house quickly, he was the only one of all the boys over 18 so off he went and MamaBear stood watch.

Our friend had to go apologize to the neighbor and the Sheriff confiscated the sparklers. The Sheriff told our friend he would give him a "warning" and then went to leave. The Sheriff was stuck in the driveway:rolleyes: . My DS and several of the other boys pushed him out and up the driveway. Then we read the fine print, the "Warning" was a $200 fine!

Funny thing was there was a Sheriff in attendance at the party, a couple of lawyers who are all up in arms, at least 2 firemen and several "prominent" business persons, sounds like we were missing the D.A's office:laughing: No one got involved because it was only a "warning"..............
Bottom line, fireworks are illegal :guilty: we all know it,:guilty: so we passed the jar around to cover the fine;) and reminded our friend that he needs to make sure ALL the neighbors are invited, including the new ones next year:rolleyes: .

Other than that, I layed around in my jammies reading my book all weekend.

Today is back to the grind and a busy week - Booster mtg tonight, PTO mtg tomorrow, Girls Scouts tomorrow night and a Mary Kay party on Thursday. I agreed to attend as an act of mercy for my friend who is trying to help her friend get "started" after her friend lost her job in the escrow field. I'm such a sucker!

DS has finals this week and then goes to his "cush" senior schedule next semester. He is going to drop AP Bio, he has had it and I give up. He will also be done with morning weights and will have Gov't, English, Aide and Trig. next semester. Every other day he will only be attending 1 class! Life is rough.

That is my update - hope all is well in your worlds - catch up when you can:hug:

Melissa

Happy Monday!!!!

Sounds like you had a good (and exciting!!) weekend, Melissa. Sorry about the Sheriff and the warning, but glad your DS didn't get cited for anything.

The dieting starts in earnest this week - with kids still getting into the school routine, trying to get an extra set of keys for DD's car, and trying to finish the mounds of laundry from vacation, I simply haven't had time to fight with the eliptical.

DS dropped the Introduction to Aerospace Engineering Class. I really wasn't surprised - I was more surprised that he signed up for it in the first place!! :rotfl: He's taking AP Biology, AP Calculus BC, English 4, and World Geography II. He wanted to drop the World Geo glass, but DH and I wouldn't let him. With lacrosse starting up next month, he really couldn't get a job because practice and games would eat up his time and we figured DS didn't NEED any more free time than the vast amount he already has. DS is not pleased about taking the course, but hey, that's just the way it is, kid.

We put 2 huge sandbags in the back of DS's car and voila!! He's been good to go ever since!!! :goodvibes

Today is DD's first day of classes at CU-Boulder. She's taking 16 hours this semester, I think. She's actually got 19 hours on her schedule due to some question about whether she actually has to take Statistics as a prerequisite for a certain Finance class. She gets to spend the next few days figuring it out!! She lucked out and only spent $362 for books this semester. Got used books for all but one class. If she had purchased them all new, it would have been almost $500!!! :scared1: She and I went grocery shopping last week to stock her up on shampoo, soap, and non-perishable foods.

We did ski at Vail yesterday. Wonderful skiing. We love Vail because even on the days when it's crowded, Vail is so large that you never feel it. I sorta tweaked my knee a bit, but fortunately it's only a minor thing. Should be all better by the end of the week.

I am so excited - I am getting a manicure AND a pedicure tonight!! My nails are almost like claws. They really need it!!

Well, back to work!!!!

It sounds like things are going well in both of your worlds (as long as Melissa can stay out of jail! :rolleyes1 ). Sandy, best wishes for your DD at school, I wouldn't be at all surprised if she didn't wind up having to take Statistics. It seems like almost everybody has to take it (we'll cross our fingers for her though).

The new Supt. formally fired our Business Manager today (after telling her that it had nothing to do with her, that she had done a great job, and that he really liked her, but it was "just" politics). We had a school board meeting tonight (and she's the Bd. sec.), so he told her that her last day would be tomorrow because he needed her to be there tonight to help him with the board meeting. She was so upset that she went home, and then came to see me. I told her not to go under any circumstances.

After she went home, he called and wanted to know where she was. She told him that she was really upset. He told her that he was really sorry, but he really needed her help tonight and for her not to worry because God would take care of everything for her. I swear I might have gotten in my car and gone and hit him right then if it had been me! I told her again not to go, but she went anyway (and wound up even more upset). She's really distraught, and I feel sorry for her. :guilty:

I was told Friday (in not so many words) that my job was going to be eliminated (keeping in mind that several other jobs are going to be "created"). I may be able to transfer into something else, but it will be with a significant pay cut. Keep in mind that this was after I was told how methodical I was and what an excellent job I have done over the years (also how impressed he is with DH and how high his test scores are).

This guy is wanting to bring in several of his cronies from Memphis City Schools (definitely not a role model for anybody to follow). Our scores are MUCH higher than theirs. He's told the board that he wants them to back him in hiring them while he takes jobs away from most of the people who work in the central office (we'll see how that plays out).

I've got to take some teachers to a conference in Orlando in February and to Jackson in January. It looks like those may be my last good trips ;) , but it will all work out one way or another.

January through March is my really, really busy time, so I'll probably be too busy to worry about it too much in the near future (yeah, right).

Talk to y'all later!

I'm so sorry, Horseshowmom. This new guy sounds like a real horse's behind. I can't imagine why the Business Manager went to the board meeting - like you, I certainly wouldn't!!!

I hope that you figure out a strategy for your employment, whether it be returning to teaching or even a new endeavor. Hang in there; we're here for you to vent away whenever you want to!!! :grouphug:

Is the school board going to let him do what he wants, or will there be fights? I hope that there are BIG FIREWORKS!!!

Hang in there!!!!!

Turns out DD will be dropping the Statistics class for this semester. She doesn't think she needs it, but will pick it up in the fall if things change. Her classes all sound interesting thus far - a branding/positioning class, macroeconomics, another high level economics about perceptions of inequality (sounds fascinating to me), marketing, and a creative advertising class. I wish I had these types of choices when I was in college - things are so much better today.

Well, I'd better get back to work, but wanted to let you know I was thinking about you.

Melissa and Pam, you have a good day as well.

Thanks for the support. I had also hoped there were going to be fireworks from the board, and it looked that way last month, but now I'm not so sure. It didn't sound like that last night. We'll have to see how it plays out. It may be interesting. I'm just hoping that we don't lose an awful lot of excellent teachers. I know of several who may not come back next year, and I can't blame them. :guilty: ) I know of one who is considering not even finishing the year due to being so discouraged by how things are playing out.

Your DD's classes do sound interesting. My DD has had microeconomics and some kind of pharmacy economics (not sure what it was called) and enjoyed both classes. The class your DD has on the perceptions of inequality sounds especially interesting. You'll have to tell us about it as she gets further into it!

DD went back to school today and starts classes tomorrow. Tonight several of them were going out to eat, and tomorrow night their basketball team hosts Florida (I think), so I think they're going to that. Then she comes home on Friday and won't go back until Tuesday afternoon (only has classes on MWF this semester :thumbsup2 ).

Thank goodness for these silly animals of mine. They keep me from getting too depressed! ;) Chachi has formed a real attachment for Tigger. They chase and roughhouse with each other all the time, and I often find them curled up asleep together. They're pretty funny to watch. Tigger has grown into a really big cat (even at just 9 months old) and is taller than Chachi (although Chachi probably outweighs him).

Cisco is doing great and seems to love being back. He's just a big pet himself. DD's other quarter horse is jealous, but the Paint loves him. She's deciding which colors he's going to show in (assuming she finds time to get him ready to show  ).

The diet is progressing pretty well. DH is having difficulties with his. He's never been overweight, but he's having to take steroids for a year in conjunction with the ear surgery he had back in the fall. The steroids have caused him to gain 20-25 lbs. He's having fits about it. To make it worse, the steroids make him hungry all the time (and that's on top of being on a diet). He's got my sympathy, but I'm afraid that's not helping him much. :)
