Let the Prom Drama begin....Like Aurora, her dress keeps changing

Your DS is going to be a knockout in a tux. It always amazes me at what a change there is when they put them on. You almost can't believe it's them.
I get all mushy everytime I think or type about it.

Dangit, they grow up too fast - I am not ready:sad1:

Wait a minute, stop the bus.......I go off to get my nails done and voila - no house cleaning for me now I have to be the Vegas tour guide since it looks like I am the only one who has ever been:lmao: I should warn you all I don't gamble it bores me. I will however, shop, drink, eat, go to shows and I love to wander around the hotels they are phenominal! Could we sell a child maybe and stay at the Venetian, I have dreamed of staying there.

Sandy:
So glad she said yes - how could she not:goodvibes
My DH makes the killer margarita's. He loves to play bartender for me and the girls so anytime you are in my neck of the woods he'll hook us up!

Pam:
Artguy does live under a rock. Jerk, well at least we know the apple doesn't fall far from the family tree. I still cannot get over his mother sending you that email - I would be so tempted to inform her what her precious boy is really up to but ultimately with a person like that it does no good.
I agree with your DH in advising your DD to not drag Artguy into the mess with jerk boy and the movie scene.

Horseshowmom:
You bring up some very valuable points especially the way the teenage brain works. I think it is hard for us grown ups to remember that they really do think and behave so differently.

Me:
I did ask DS last night if he was scheming on maybe actually getting a date and asking someone......He evasively said, he's thinking about it and will keep me posted. When he has it sorted out he will tell me all the details but he knows it is more fun to keep me hanging on his every word;) He is still not 100% sure he wants to go, evidently the girl in charge is not being viewed as being very competent and the kids are starting to think the whole thing might be a waste of funds. I'm sure he will end up going and I am sure I will end up absorbing most of the costs. Kids

Prama - I like that!
You're back!! Thought all those hiring decisions from the days before had made you lose your will to post. :)

Sorry about not being available to clean, though. I know you're disappointed. And I will miss the margaritas. We'll have to plan the getaway to Vegas for somewhere down the road. If we have to sell a child to stay at the Venetian, we may have to wait awhile - mine have been acting like "keepers" for a while now. (This, of course, will change with teenagers so I can pretty much guarantee one of them will hack me off in the near future.)

I know what you mean about getting mushy seeing your DS in a tux - I don't know if I'm ready for my "baby" to be doing this. Glad that your DS has started to fill you in on his possible plan - keep us updated. I hope that he goes.

This is N. Nevada we get excited when the applicants actually have most of their teeth! We made a decision, we all have mixed feelings but we didn't have a lot to choose from. We had more no-shows than applicants that actually showed up. Typical

Okay, no Vegas for now, actually works okay for me it is going to get really hot there soon.

Observation:
Girls can borrow dresses from each other or buy a new one off a clearance rack. Boys are stuck with a rental where every little "upgrade" costs extra and it must be back at the shop by noon on the day following the event.
Mental Picture: 800 parents lining up like we are buying concert tickets, 0 dark early on a Sunday morning just to get the tux back in time. The JA dance in February can be brutal, this year it was like 3 degrees when we arrived at the shop to get in line.
Just commenting:rolleyes:

That's sad. What field are you in?

You paint a good picture. :) Now I'm actually scared. Am I going to be spending over $150 for this thing?!?!

Oh my! That does sound rough, but try to look at it like this. It doesn't matter if the guy shows up in the same tux as somebody else! :rolleyes1

ETA: This is the first time I've ever heard of this, but some people we know had sons who were only a couple of years apart. They actually bought a tux, because they said it was cheaper than renting it every time (two proms each plus proms at the girlfriends' schools). It seemed to work pretty well for them (just some minor alterations and one bad experience with a candle that the cleaner was able to rectify! LOL).

Hey, BTW, if y'all get the Vegas trip reinstated, can I go? :flower3:

Maybe I could sell one of the horses to pay for the Venetian! :thumbsup2

Of course. Like I said, I've never been, so I need folks to go with me. DH has no interest in going, but he's encouraging me to go with friends. :)

Yep, them tuxes can add up!

I am an accounting/HR manager for a company that builds modular restroom & concession buildings in our plant. We then transfer pieces of the buildings and set them on the designated site. Not port-a-potties - solid, stand alone buildings with plumbing.

I was looking for a tool room clerk who had some Inventory and Shipping/Receiving experience.

Of course you may come along, us reasonable, well grounded mom's with sensible teens need to stick together for we are few and far between:hug:

Horses gotta bring more bucks than teenagers anyday - You're on and in charge of fundraising!

I'll bring the blender, we can make our own drinks to keep the cost down:rolleyes1

Well, I hope the new person works out for your company, mamacatnv. :goodvibes I'm always worn out after doing interviews.

We've actually got one who reminds us very much of a "bad" teenager! ;) Now, I just have to figure out a way to sneak him out of the pasture with nobody the wiser... :rolleyes1

WELCOME Horsheshowmom!..UUUmmmm, no selling of the fair equines...DD rides and she would ALWAYS get rid of a fellow teen before a horse! We don't own one, but she has been taking weekly lessons for about 4 years now. Switches between English and Western...doesn't show because we don't have our own or lease a horse...but set her up with some barrells and she'll rodeo for ya!
Good points about Art Guy being worth the $$$$ ( figuratively speaking)DD said he is supposed to tell his folks about the Prom today..so they had no idea he was going. DD told him to look in his yearbook at the pictures from last years Prom to help him out, she mentioned the Limo...he thought it all sounded fun, so that's good.
I put the kabosh on the movies...Art Guy is working until 8 so was not sure about making it, and some of the friends from the group bailed for various reasons...which left DD and jerk and 1 other guy....ummmm, no thanks. She can stay home and decide which dress she is going to wear. I would have her help me clean, but I did that yesterday!
Jerk decided he is going to join Art Club that DD belongs to :confused3 ..I thought maybe to have something to put on his college ap to maybe make it look like he did something related to art, but there is only 7 weeks left to the year, I don't think he can count as having been a member. One more thing to deal with. Things were crazy as DD's bus was hit by a car at the school today and thankfully no one was hurt, but reports needed to be filed etc., DS has hit a wall with his studies...so frustration there...those MARGIES ARE LOOKING GOOD!
Those boys of yours are gonna look so GQ in those spiffy duds...I agree with whoever bought a tux...logical. I'm all for borrowing items whenever possible.
Looks like our Lushette group for V V is up to 4...looking gooooood!
Oh, and while we were indoors, DD had to wait in line at every dress shop for a fitting room...seriously, she shopped over a 3 day period and keep in mind she did not have as many to choose from as a size 5 girl.
BUT....like a mastercard commercial...hopefully the experience is priceless. DD is planning onnpaying, she has to buy the tickets next week . They are on sale during lunch on Mon, Tue and Wed. I imagine a LOT of asking will take place this weekend. That is one reason DD set things up last week, knowing the stores would be even CRAZIER this weekend. Tuxes will go to tho, and like I said, the Limo place we chose is now all booked up...supply and demand.
Well, gotta go, so recap...
New friend...Horseshowmom...welcome!
DD...Art Guy is telling parents and didn't freak over tux/limo info :thumbsup2
Movie thwarted....dress being chosen...

Good to go!
Have a great weekend ladies..will update if anymore Prama occurs!

Pam

Lushettes - I like that

Well ladies it is about time for me to head out of here for the ol'e homestead. Since DD got her Webkinz getting near a puter on the weekends is dicey at best.;)

I hope and pray you all have a great weekend and I will catch up with you on Monday. Maybe by then I will have some new drama to add to this Prama thread.

Cheers.....
Melissa

Everyone have a good weekend! I may take DS to look at tuxes. He's busy arranging the "group" for the limo so I'll know Monday how many to try and fit in one.

I hear a glass of wine calling my name . . .

Happy Monday to everyone. Just got off the phone. Limo is rented. Now DS has to figure out who will be riding with him and his date. One less thing to have to deal with!!!

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. We did. Warm spring weather is back, which was nice to see. :)

Good Morning ladies:coffee: :

No new drama to report here - still don't have an answer on what DS is up to.

Weather was windy, gray & cold all weekend. Today is supposed to hit 69 and then it is supposed to snow on Friday:eek: Spring, ain't it just grand.

Pam:
Any dress decisions yet????????

Sandy:
Glad the limo is taken care of - my DS is going to either have to drive or sort out his own transportation. I won't pay until he is a Sr. Plus he just hit me up for the "Football Combine" training and testing fee $175 training & another $50 for the test. Something about putting his "stats" into a National College Data base for athletes - I know nothing, as usual his coach recommends and I get to foot the bill.

This on top of the SAT & ACT fee's I just paid along with the $415 for his A/P tests that he is required to take by our school district. (they require, I pay, system sucks;) )

Dang, no wonder we can't afford Vegas, we have teens!

Horseshowmom:
If DS would stop growing I would consider the purchase of formal attire so that he has it, but so far in High School he has grown 1-2" per year. He is currently almost 6'4" and even if he stops growing in height his shoulders get wider on a daily basis.

My brag moment:teacher: - DS (smart but lazy) came home with his 3rd qtr. report card on Friday, 3.25GPA(unweighted) with 5 A/P classes

Hi Mamacatnv,

Congrats on the great report card!!

I understand about feeling like you're bleeding money all of the time. It's always something. I used to think it was "bad" for girls at prom, but the guys have limos, dinner, flowers, tickets, tux rental. Maybe it wasn't so bad to pay for dress, hair nails, and makup!!

I am putting down the deposit for the limo, but every couple will have to fork over their share (or they can pay as individuals; doesn't matter to me) or they can't ride in it!! The nicest part about being the one to make the arrangements is that the limo is coming to MY house to pick the kids up. So I don't have to travel anywhere for pictures, just clean the place up a bit. (I am confident DS will make me mad enough close to prom time so I can be sufficiently "inspired" to clean the house :) .)

Your son sounds big enough to play college football. Has he been recruited by any colleges thus far?

Pam, let us know about the dress saga, Art Guy, and the Jerk.

Horseshowmom, hope you had a nice weekend with your daughter at home.

Hello to everybody! The weather is finally warming back up here too. We thought we were going to freeze over the weekend (I'm almost ashamed to say that considering we're way down here in the south), but even the horses had to be blanketed.

Over the weekend, I started paying attention to tuxes in store windows too (I usually look at the dresses). Your guys are going to be as "pretty" as the girls!

Mamacatnv - more congrats on the report card! :cool1: Did you say that boy is 6'4"? :scared1: DD would be very impressed! Her BF (at 5'11") probably not as much! ;) :rotfl:

Sandy V. - We did have a good weekend. DD stayed at school to study for a Physics test and didn't get home until Saturday afternoon. Her cat proceeded to ignore her (he "punishes" her for being gone). She tried to sweet talk him, but he wouldn't have any of it. She had to leave to go help her BF babysit (his mare just had a brand new buckskin colt and was having a little bit of trouble, so they kept an eye on the new mom and baby Saturday night). After she left, Stormy (the cat) started pacing the house and yowling. When she and BF came in later that evening, he was more than happy to "forgive" her and wouldn't let her out of his sight.

FINFAN - DD also does the western and english along with barrels. Since she's mostly retired at the moment due to pharmacy school, she doesn't get to ride too much. She does have two that she's started on barrels to ride for the summer. Her BF is a team roper, so they can rodeo together if she does barrels. They (DD and BF) are pretty funny. The horse show world and rodeo world are very different. He loves the "spectacle" of the rodeo, and she loves the "dignity" and glitz of the horse show (my bottom line sure improved when she "retired" LOL).

It sounds like the jerk is joining the Art Club to keep an eye on your DD and ArtGuy. He seems to have a hard time understanding the word no. It may be a really good thing that she's making her point clear to him without ever having actually dated.

Howdy all! CRAZY INSANE day today, so just a quick update..
DD narrowed it down to 2 dresses...one is aquamarine Organza floofy style, other is black/white polka dot.
Art Guy came over Friday night ( after I thwarted the movies) and a few other kids( but not jerk...wasn't invited)...Art Guy was able to meet one of the other guys in the Limo group so things would be more comfortable, turns out they already knew each other so that was sweet. They had a ball goofing off. Then Art Guy invited DD over to his house Saturday night, again, fun was had by all, DD met his Dad. I guess his folks are divorced, and Mom is remarried and lives in Michigan...or at least that's the info I got. DD likes his dad a lot, and said he knows about the Prom, so...whew!
Jerk was no where to be seen over the weekend, but DD has him in lunch and PE..matter of fact they have bowling unit right now and he's on her team  ..so we'll see how things go..hopefully just roll along w/out any problems.
I think DD is leaning toward the B/W dress...I like the other better for the color and more special look to it, but DD is the one in it, so whatever she chooses. No alterations needed for the B/W and it was $89..so no complaints there! Tickets are on sale this week and DD is buying them both...still no word if her date will help pay for the Limo, but need to be prepared to cover it as well.
Well ladies, gotta go..I'm booked clear thru Wed 9pm...I'll try and pop in when I can!

Pam

Sounds like things are going great. You and your DD sound like us. I would have liked the aquamarine one best, and DD would probably have liked the B/W polka dot one better. :rotfl:

I'm glad they had a good weekend. It sounds like things are getting off to a great start. The fact that there isn't a mom in the picture may explain why ArtGuy seems a little clueless. We moms take care of them much more than they even realize.
