Pot-stirrer. :)

My FIL presented my son with a couple of years worth of t-shirts/hats in graduating sizes when he was born. DS has followed in his fathers footsteps and with the exception of basketball, they are die hard New England Red Sox loving, Yankee hating fans! DD's first year of baseball and she was on the Yankees:eek: they both refused to wear her team shirts and gave her nothing but grief all season. She, being the product of these 2 men in her life spent the entire season rubbing it in. She ordered a Yankee b-day cake, did Yankee themed craft projects, cheered for the Yankees during regular season play etc....:lmao
Your DD sounds like she's going to grow up to be a very strong woman. Good for her!!

We have lived here for 15 years and I must say we are pretty loyal UNR fans. I find it a little hard when San Jose State comes to town but that is about it. DS will not even consider school at UNLV (Las Vegas) he said he would feel like a total traitor. There are actually a couple of schools he will not consider due the rivalries and is trying to avoid WAC schools altogether: Boise State, UNLV and Fresno :rotfl:

Have a great time, a fun trip and I'm sorry but I hope a wasted trip;) :lmao:
Being Big 12 fans (except for Texas and Texas A&M), it was a hard pill to swallow at first that DD was going to the University of Colorado. But when it came time to write the tuition check, I felt A LOT better!! :rotfl: I actually cheer for Colorado . . . except when they play Nebraska.

It had better NOT be a wasted trip!!! :lmao:

To answer the question regarding the teacher who had the equipment, she is HOT.:furious:

Her response to my email was very snippy, and she's not a happy person (also sent a snippy IM). Apparently, she thinks possession is nine tenths of the law (sorry, she's out of luck). She's been told it will be picked up, and she's steaming.

She should be smart enough to know that I'm not a good person to make mad. Most of the extra classroom stuff that she has, she got from me. She's also been wanting to do some afterschool (extra pay) professional development (working for me). I doubt very seriously that that's going to happen.

Sounds to me like she is pretty stupid! Biting the supply hand that feeds her cabinets is not in her best interest.

But, if you are going to get mad...................I have a couple of kids rooms where you could focus your pent up energy

I have no plans for the entire weekend other than the football game on Friday night. I'm sleeping in, maybe all day at least 1 possibly 2 of the 3 days

Go Pack Go Pack Go Pack Go Pack Go Pack

My internet got knocked out yesterday afternoon, and I wake up to this harassment?!?!?! :confused3 ;)

I'll make sure the Huskers score a touchdown in your honor. :goodvibes

Went to DS's academic awards program last night (the awards are based on last year's performance). Besides winning an athletic letter, he won an award as the outstanding pre-calculus student. :woohoo: This is a kid who has to WORK at math, so he was very surprised and pleased. We are very proud of him. He's great with tests, not so good with the day-to-day homework. Oh, he DOES it, but the simple act of turning it in doesn't always get accomplished. :confused3 The pre-calc teacher last year was a great educator AND person. The calculus teacher this year is very good (she's been teaching calculus here for 27 years!!), but not nearly as personable. I do know, though, that he will learn under her guidance. She's quite the math drill sergeant.

Well, I have to catch up on all the work that I missed because of yesterday's internet outage. Comcast is not my favorite company at the moment. . .

Have a good day, everyone!! :cool1:

Congratulations on a great awards ceremony. You son should be very proud of himself! :thumbsup2
Thank you, Horseshowmom. :)

Any more on the ex-boyfriend front? I hope not!!

It's starting to finally feel a little more fall-like here with some cooler weather. Are things still as hot in Mississippi?

Sandy:
This is for you.....................
Harrassment! I'm offended;) :lmao: I was actually telling the kids and DH at dinner last night about you and how you will be going to our first game. My DS was very jealous. If this tradition continues, you may have an extra passenger next fall for the game:)

Thought I would share this mornings headline & article in the Reno Gazette (remember, I am technically impaired and do not know how to post a link, therefore I cut and paste)Lots of good things being said about you Huskers, I think we are doomed but it sounds like it will be a lot of fun. So, if you find that island of blue, wave, I know a couple of people in that group!

A sea of red awaits Wolf Pack in Nebraska
Nevada fans who attend the Wolf Pack’s Saturday season opener at Nebraska should sit close together inside the Cornhuskers’ Memorial Stadium, where they’ll form a tiny island of blue in a giant sea of red.

Don’t be intimidated. This is one of the great road trips in sports.
With a rich tradition that includes five national championships, 11 unbeaten seasons, three Heisman Trophy winners and 282 (and counting) straight home-game sellout crowds, Nebraska is routinely ranked among the country’s best dozen or so places to watch college football.
A lot of Pack backers will check it out. About 1,000 are going.
“That’s fantastic,” said Lou Mary Webb, one of four co-owners of Barry’s Bar & Grill, a popular pre- and post-game hangout a couple blocks from the stadium in downtown Lincoln, Neb. “We’re glad to have you guys come out here.”
She means it.
Nebraska fans want their team to beat your team, which, given the Huskers’ 127-7 home record since 1986, happens a lot. But they’ll buy you a beer before and after.
“Nebraska fans are very nice,” said Reno Fire Chief Paul Wagner, who’s been one since the 1950s. “They’re very knowledgeable. They are very nice to visiting people.”
Wagner, who grew up in Omaha, Neb., will make the trip.
“I’m going to be wearing a Big Red shirt and a Wolf Pack hat,” said Wagner, whose first game at Memorial Stadium almost a half-century ago was a Nebraska victory against arch-rival Oklahoma. “I’m sure I will get some grief from my family.”
Here’s something you need to know about Nebraska. It’s where the words “Big” and “Red,” when used together, are always capitalized.
Wagner plans on being at Barry’s before the Pack-Husker game. So do many hundreds of others.
Barry’s has a front and back. In front, where the floor is made of wood from an old high school basketball court, there’s room for 285. The rear, which is called the “Outback,” is 10,000 square feet and holds 675. More if they stand shoulder to shoulder.
“On game day you can have a heart attack in there and not hit the floor,” said Steve Smith, a Lincoln resident, Nebraska graduate, former Reno Gazette-Journal reporter and author of “Forever Red,” a 176 page book about his life as a Husker fan.
Here’s what Smith says on page 143:
“If there’s one thing Lincoln has buckets and buckets of, it’s atmosphere, tradition and general pigskin character. Some if it is unique, some of it is hokey, some of it is inspiring, some of it is worthy of a good eye-rolling. But all of it, in at least one small way, gets your Big Red blood pumping.”
Pack fans can expect to be outnumbered at Barry’s, which should help prepare them for nearby Memorial Stadium, where capacity, with recent renovations, has been raised to 81,067. There hasn’t been an empty seat since 1962. On game day, the stadium becomes the third-largest city in the state.
“The experience is unique,” Wagner said. “The way Nebraska brings the team out with the ‘Tunnel Walk.’ The hairs on the back of your neck stand up if you’re a Nebraska fan. If you’re not, it’s still good.”
The Huskers are Nebraska’s statewide religion, which comes with its own scripture, composed in the 1920s by university philosophy professor Hartley Burr Alexander and chiseled in stone on a stadium entrance:
“Not the victory but the action; not the goal but the game; in the deed the glory.”
Amen.
“You’ll see people wearing T-shirts with that written on it,” Smith, who grew up in Rosalie, a town of 200 in the state’s northeast corner, said. “It’s something Nebraskans have adopted as their Bible verse. You’ll see shirts with that, or, ones with ‘In the drink the glory.’”
But Husker glory has faded just a bit since the team won three national championships and compiled a 49-2 record during a four-year span from 1994 to 1997. Nebraska experienced a losing season, its first since 1961, in 2004, going 5-6. The Huskers were 9-5 last year.
“Generally, people are thinking things are on the upswing,” Smith said.
Despite the state’s mostly rural landscape and reputation, Nebraska football is something of an urban experience. Lincoln is the state capital with a population of 241,167. The campus and stadium are next to downtown. There are hotels, shops, restaurants and, at night, clubs with live music.
One of those is the Sidetrack Tavern, where the Sidetrack Band has been entertaining football fans for years.
“If you like salty language and funny songs,” Smith said. “It’s not a family-friendly environment. If you’re into something a little raunchy, cheap beer and sticky floors. You can sing along with the Sidetrack Band. It’s an experience.”
So is Misty’s Restaurant & Lounge in a neighborhood called “Havelock” on the northeast edge of Lincoln.
“We should be at the top of the list,” said Reynold McMeen, one of four Misty’s co-owners. “Our roots with Husker football go (way) back.”
On a Friday night before a Saturday game, you might see a Nebraska family eating thick prime rib at Misty’s, with a young son dressed in his pee wee football uniform, complete with shoulder pads, munching away, helmet sitting nearby. Adults walk past the little lad, patting him on the head approvingly. A future Husker.
But the evening’s highlight is the appearance by a room-size portion of the Nebraska marching band, complete with cheerleaders, blasting out the school fight song. For Husker football fans, that’s dinner music.
Visitors, even ones wearing blue, will be welcome, as they will be just about everywhere.
“We like to think that Nebraska fans are great to people from out of town,” Webb said. “The first game is always one of the fun ones. You guys will get a grand welcome when you get here.”

Thank you, Horseshowmom. :)

Any more on the ex-boyfriend front? I hope not!!

It's starting to finally feel a little more fall-like here with some cooler weather. Are things still as hot in Mississippi?

As of last night, nothing else has cropped up. She went out to dinner with 8 of her friends and had a good time. Her BF is working on his Master's degree and has a class on Wednesday nights, so he couldn't go over and go with them, but half of them were guys, so she wasn't alone (I hate to sound sexist, but I was glad there were guys around :rolleyes1 ).

I talked to BF yesterday afternoon, and he said that he blocked the guy from her Facebook page, so she won't even come up in the system when he tries to look her up. BF also set her page to private so only her accepted friends can get to the page now. When I talked to DD last night, she said she also went into her school email and blocked him from being able to get through there too. I suspect that he still has her phone number, so that may be his next method.

I'd like to think that he'll get the "hint" and leave her alone, but the fact that it's been this long and he was pretty hostile (I still haven't found out exactly what he said) makes me think that he may not give up that easy.

I suggested that she get some pepper spray, but she didn't seem to think that was necessay. I think I'm going to get her some anyway (her and her roommate too - roommate is my cousin's DD).

I asked DH last night which one of us wants to enroll in pharmacy school to keep an eye on her. He cut his eyes and said it had probably better be me, because he didn't have the brains. I told him that I don't either anymore (age is a hard burdin to bear!)! :rotfl2:

Barry's, Sidetrack, and Misty's are all Lincoln icons. When we were in law school, DH played for a softball team and we drank a lot of beer at Barry's!! My BIL works a couple of blocks away from there, and when we go back, we meet them there for dinner sometimes. The Sidetrack is a hoot, although I haven't been there or to Misty's in years.

Nebraska fans WILL buy your fans a beer. They will be polite even when they're whooping you. If you hear otherwise, Melissa, let me know!!

Glad to hear it. It sounds like she's been doing all of the right things!!

The part you wrote about going to pharmacy school is funny. After I finished law school and took the bar exam, you couldn't PAY me enough money to ever to back to school again. Thank goodness I passed it on the first try or there would have been much pulling of hair and knashing of teeth.

20 straight years (kindergarten through law school) was enough to last a lifetime! I simply don't have the powers of concentration that I used to. :)

Well, sure! With a record like they've got, I'd say it's pretty easy to maintain that goodnaturedness (is that a word? )! :rotfl:

Would you believe that DH actually thought I ought to consider it after DD started checking into it (not to keep an eye on her but due to what would be a rather large salary increase for me ;) ). I told him then, sorry, I just don't have what it takes anymore (I do kind of wish I had thought about it 30 years ago though).

She's fortunate. Her program will take 6 years, but they're in the process of changing it to 7 years. The students who started this year will be 6 1/2 years, next year's students will be 7 years.

When she finishes, she'll have her Pharm. D. (which we thought was pretty appropriate considering her rural/horse farm background :rolleyes1 ;) ).

Horseshowmom:

Sounds like they have done just about everything to cut off access and if he hasn't started calling maybe he will get the hint, although like you I doubt this will be the end of it.

Scary the way people think they can act. I would definatley get her and her roomie the pepper spray. One can never really be too cautious.

Pharmacy school, yep that would do me in:lmao:

Sandy:

That is awesome - congrats to you and your son! Kudo's all around, just like behind every good man is a great woman, I strongly believe that behind every good kid is a great Mom! Of course I am a little biased..........:lmao:

I have resigned myself, I live with Mr. Jock Social:) He is totally capable of top notch grades, but doesn't put in the effort. His overall GPA is nothing to sneeze at, but he has so much more potential. Oh well, maybe college will get his attention.

So, yesterday I call Winco (grocery store) to order 75 plain bagels for pick up this afternoon. It is my turn to bring the teams morning snack tomorrow during Zero Period. We do PB&J all other days of the week, then the bagels & cream cheese on game day. The manager at the Winco bakery about chokes and says, "this is the 3rd large special order I have gotten today" I said, "well, it is my turn to feed the football team" she says "what school? the other 3 were also football teams" I tell her and she says, ok, you haven't ordered yet.

I then start to pump her for information "so, what other schools have ordered???" she rattles off a couple of the other schools and I say, "it's okay, you can give them their bagels, we are not playing them, but could you make them really small or way overcooked!" She just laughs............Small town, inside information, love it. She said she couldn't do that, but because my pick up time was the latest and the other 3 orders had already been baked & bagged for morning pick up that mine would be baked this morning for pick up tonight and would be fresher than theirs!

I told DH that now we know their strategy and he suggested I add bananas to the bagels to give our boys the edge:lmao: (man, I'm gonna be bummed next year when there is no more football)

Last year it was the night before the big game against Reno High School (Old, well established, lots and lots of money for their athletic programs, etc...)I had taken the kids to Olive Garden for dinner. We were upstairs and I hear this Thunder on the stairs, up comes a big group of boys. I inquire with the waitress, sure enough it is the Reno HS Football team! I tried to bribe the manager into running out of pasta:lmao:

This afternoon I am back to DD's classroom. DD says that the noise level has come way down and Ms. Teacher seems to be getting some control. We shall see, I am there today during math which doesn't seem to be her strong point.

Thats it for now, I really must go get some work done. Have a great day ladies

True enough, but since we haven't won a national championship in 10 years and thing have fallen off a bit, success-wise, the fans do their share of whining amongst themselves.

It's more of a Midwestern hospitality thing, although hospitality is mostly everywhere, I guess. Nebraskans are pretty reserved, but they DO want to make sure that visitors feel welcomed.

:thumbsup2 If it isn't then it should be since it fit really well!

Not sure what UNR did to earn a Huskers whoopin but I Know our Coach likes to expose our small town team to the big boys. We played a couple of really good high ranked teams last year for the "experience".

Once I read their stats it makes sense that the Huskers are welcoming to outsiders ...........like a spider inviting the fly into it's web for a spot of tea:rotfl2:

Forgot to add - thanks, Melissa, for the compliments about DS. He really is more like YOUR son, though, in most ways. I nag that kid constantly about the day-to-day stuff, but he pulls himself together for the "big" stuff. Drives me nuts!!

And welcome to my parlour, said the spider to the fly . . . ;)

:lmao: Just curious, how big is that stadium? There is a picture of it full of red in the paper but it does not state the capacity. It looks HUGE!

Our Boys:
Mine makes me crazy - I am always on his butt about something. He is a very easy going, good natured, goofball who charms his way thru life and is perfectly happy with above average:confused3 all the while mastering the art of being a procrastinator extraordinaire.

DS's best friend since 3rd grade is anal, focused, straight A's in all including his A/P classes of which he is taking 4 this year while my lazy butt jock is taking 1! Turns in his work, keeps his car and room immaculate. Makes his own hair, Dr., dentist, ortho appts. and just goes. Mom is unaware until she gets the bill. Best Friend spends hours on his home work, summer projects etc. while my DS digs his out from under the seat of his car and does it or finishes it on the way to class all the while trying to get the wrinkles out and the peanut butter stains off.

My DS's ACT/SAT scores were significantly higher (not a little, a lot) Not a slam, the mom and I have always discussed how her DS works hard and earns every point of his grades while Mr. Lazy Butt Jock doesn't work at it at all yet maintains high B's but with just a teeny bit of effort he could be the top of his class.:sad2:

Okay, vent over.................

Memorial Stadium seats just under 86,000 and every seat is filled by game time.

Your son sounds like mine. He is a charmer and class clown, although I do think some of his former teachers have not appreciated his humor!

The only thing where my son is truly passionate is lacrosse. He is VERY serious about that.

I'm pretty sure they'll both turn out just fine!!!
