Lesson learned. Need more days in Disney!!! Aug 2010 (NEW 1/20-COMPLETE)

Hey Yuki! All caught up - phew!

You, know I'm kinda with Andrew - I don't think Beverly's all that bad. I'm trying to remember which was my favorite. I think I liked the ones from Mexico and China the best.

ohh I've never seen those guide books before! Definitely going to check them out :thumbsup2

Haha, my BF is in the Beverly minority, too. I was disappointed, coz he ruined my chance for a photo op! Lol.

I really want to see Captain EO, I love MJ. I'm so glad that's there for now instead of Honey I Shrunk the Audience.

I'm a Coke girl myself :thumbsup2 except when I'm drinking diet then I choose Pepsi! Have you ever had Mexican Coke? I live in a Latino neighborhood so my grocery store sells it. It's in a glass bottle and is made with sugar not corn syrup, and it's delicious!

I haven't ridden MS in a while I will have to put that on my list for my next trip!

Too funny about your DBF liking the Beverly  I am also a fan of the Chinese watermelon drink mmm I could go for some of that right now!

I have always wanted to see the Jammitors but have never ran into them! How cool you go to watch them!!!

I love Captain EO! Seriously my favorite show at Disney! We made the mistake of sitting up front too so the second time I dragged my parents to see it we sat in the back and it was much more enjoyable!

Can't wait to hear about who gets drunk

The Jammitors are just so much fun! They're pretty much all over Future World. I hope you run into them on your next trip!

MMM.....a bottle of that watermelon drink would be wonderful.

Yeah, I really liked Captain Eo. It was so much fun to watch! Just makes you want to get up and dance. :dancer:

Hey Becca! Everybody seems to like the Mexico and China best too. I know I enjoyed pretty much all of them. But the Beverly.....I dunno.....my threshold for bitter is pretty high and -I- thought it was bad :crazy2:

The books I got aren't guidebooks. They're just books chock full of very interesting information about the design and development of the theme parks. Very good reads!

And yeah, I was really hoping for a great video moment! But NOTHING!

I don't know how long Captain Eo will be there. The last I checked, they just said it'll be replacing H!IStA "longer".

Diet pepsi? I like Coke Zero more.

Mexican coke? Wow....I wanna try that. I know Coke tastes different in each country cause it depends on what ingrediants you have.

Speaking, I REALLY WANT Fanta Orange over here! We get a tangier tangeriene, but not orange.

Oh dear. Yet more Disney books for me to buy and read. Yay!

They're very inexpensive but such a good read!

Beverley is like disgustin cough syrup!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Haha, cough syrup is disgusting already!

OMG at your BF liking the Beverly! Didn't Kara write on her TR she thought it was ok? And you guys went at the same time...hm... imagine if they improved the Beverly??

Also, I always wonder: What do people in Italy think of it? They must drink a lot of it if they still sell it so I guess they like it! I want to ask a bunch of italians about it. Maybe next time I'm at WS ;)

I've never watched the Jammitors but they sure sound awesome.

Hurry up and update, I love drunk at WDW stories!

Hi! I just discovered your TR and I'm really enjoying it.

I was surprised by the fact that Fanta Orange soda is not available in Canada, because when I travelled around the world ten years ago, it was my go-to drink - I remember it being everywhere. That and Pringles :) But now that I think about it, Fanta is far less common in the US than it was abroad.

Also, thanks for the Imagineering Field Guide recommendation - I ordered mine today.

Oh wow....I didn't even think of asking the Italians about Beverly! Very good idea! I tried the Bev and........blech

I really want to update, I do! Just need to get over these two midterms and a paper this week and an update will be up soon. Maybe even tomorrow night! Yes....most likely tomorrow night since I'll be at work.

:welcome: Kate! Glad to have you here.

Yeah, Canada only has Fanta tangerine. But even that was recent. They started selling that a couple of months ago. Pringles is everywhere? How cool!

I'm sure you'll enjoy the field guides. I love learning about all the little details Disney puts into their parks. Gives me something to look out for on my next trip!

I'm so sorry I haven't been updating lately. My first round of assessments is here. Two midterms and a paper due this week.

I'm pretty sure I'll have an update out by tomorrow night. If I don't, feel free to send me rotten veggies in the mail!

In recent news, I was bitten by a kid last week. She's about 7-8 years old. I volunteer at a school for children on the lower functioning end of the autism spectrum. I love being there with the kids, but unfortunately, child aggression isn't uncommon.

One of the children threw a tantrum, ran at me and bit into my right shoulder. She bit so hard, it tore my skin! Through 2 layers of clothing too! It stung really bad for about 2 hours, but it's healing pretty well right now.

I guess the good thing is, I've been bit by children before, so I was more or less unshaken by this incident. I also can't blame the kid because she wasn't able to control her actions. I'll still continue to volunteer there because I really love it there. I'm just sad that she had this outburst when her progress was going so well.

Ok, I promise I'll have an update up by tomorrow because everybody wants to hear about being drunk at WDW! :rotfl:

Ouch! that's scary. Sorry that happened to you  My cousin's 3 year old has a biting issue as well. She only bites her parents though. It's sad because she gets so frustrated there is no other way to express herself other than through biting. I witnessed her biting her mom once and it was a scary sight! The girl bites hard.

Yeah, I think little kids go through a biting phase. I had a cousin that is 7 right now. When he was about 3 or 4, he grabbed my legs and bit me right on my inner thigh. Just chomped right down! Of course, he was rightly punished, but I didn't let him hug me for a while....

I've never seen the Jammitors before! They look like fun. Sometimes I am completely unaware of things around me. They might have been playing but I could have completely walked right past them while heading straight for Soarin' LOL. Hey, when you're on a mission to get FPs, nothing else seems to matter right? LOL :rotfl:

Good luck on the work you have due this week Yuki. And sorry to hear about your little run-in. I'm glad to hear it hasn't changed how you feel about volunteering there.

I see you are experiencing an all to common job hazard of our field !! Luckily I haven't been bitten!! But the names I've been called Meeshka !!!!:eek:Prevented many a fight :woohoo:Been smacked numerous times , had missiles thrown at me etc !!But I wouldnt change my job for anything !! I know enuff NOT to get in a power struggle with any of them , it aint woth the effort!!:rotfl2:I've seen major behaviors from staff not having enuff sense to back off !!

I know what you mean! When we were in that mad dash to get Soarin' FPs, I don't even remember what I saw! I think the times guide tells you where they are and when. They are definitely worth stopping for. Super funny!

Thanks Glen!~ I've got 1 exam and the paper half done.

I'm sorry it had to happen too. Well, I've had a lot of experiences with kids and I just LOVE THEM. I think that's what gets me to go back.

An occupational hazard indeed! I've seen some volunteers that haven't had a lot of experience with children....and you can really tell. My coordinator told me that her sister volunteered at a fundraiser once and got bit by a kid and never returned. I guess it takes stronger people like us! I really love being around these kids.

Chapter 9. Day 2 pt.4- Where are the photopass?

I promised an update so here it is! May not be as complete as I want it to be though....

I just realized I haven't been keeping up with my lessons theme so here it is, Lesson number 4. Not sticking to a touring plan may not be such a bad thing after all. I think that's more a lesson I learned at the end of my trip, but I started to learn it here! So it counts right? Ok, moving on.

Another side note (cause I can never have enough of these), Andrew calls Epcot, "Apricot". It started on our first day, when he accidently called it Apricot and just kind of stuck with it. He's fluent in English, but has problems with pronunciation and spelling. Our favourite mistake of his is how he pronounced the word "pavilion". We were at the zoo one day, approaching the African pavilion and he goes, "Oh look! The African "pahvee-lion". I stopped in my tracks and looked at him like he was joking.

Me: You're joking right?
Him: About what?
Me: Say it again.
Him: Pahvee-lion.....?
Me: omg, you're for reals.

Then a kid walks by and goes, "pavilion!", as if correcting Andrew. I broke out in laughter. I laughed SOOOO hard that day. I know I shouldn't, but it was just SO FUNNY! He makes these mistakes all the time. I'm the best DGF ever, I know.

When I last left you, we had just come from visting Captain MJ with a sore neck. We headed towards WS to grab some grub.

On my last trip, I started at Mexico. So I switched it up this time by starting at my homeland! Le Canada. Cause everything sounds fancier with "le" in front of it. Le Yuki. Le trip report. Le best park ever.

Why is it the best park ever? The booze ofcourse! And not just the booze, but being able to drink the booze IN PUBLIC. In front of children! In a THEME PARK. Yups, Andrew loves Epcot.

We knew we wanted to drink around the World, but we had to contemplate starting in Canada. I mean, we can get the same stuff at home, for cheaper. We stopped by the drinks kiosk to take a look anyways.

A torontopolitan? What the heck is that?? I mean, we're from Toronto and we've never heard of that! BIZARRE. It's a lot like the cheddar cheese soup. Everybody here thinks it's the most Canadian thing ever, but I didn't even hear about it until the Dis! I mean, I know we have awesome potato soup. And even better potato and cheddar soup, but cheddar cheese soup? So yeah, this torontopolitan was boggling to us.

I thought about just watching Oh! Canada! so we didn't have to back track, but I was REALLY hungry, so I decided I wanted fish and trips from the UK next door. On our way, one of the character photo spots just opened up, which meant no lines for the characters! I was definitely up for that.

I got a picture with June from the Little Einsteins. I was really excited to see her! I love that show. When I have children, I'm buying them Disney playhouse on demand and we will watch those shows over and over and over.
DSC00159.jpg

Would you believe I watched the Treehouse channel until I was 12??? I just never want to grow up, seriously. Peter Pan, take me away!

Right across from her was BOLT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG, I love Bolt so much. Like SO MUCH! I would've been SOOO happy if they had Rhino out that day too, but unfotunately, he wasn't around. I really love this shot Andrew took of us hugging.
DSC00160.jpg

Yay, Bolt! He's just so adorable.
DSC00161.jpg

One change Disney made that I'm not a fan of is their lack of photopass photographers. When I came in 2006, every character had their own photopass photographers! They were everywhere! We took a ton of pictures from them and it just seemed more worth it to buy the photopass cd. But this year.......Up until this point in my trip I STILL haven't seen any photopass! What gives??? Where are all the photographers???

Here are some shots on our way to the Yorkshire County Fish Shop.
DSC00162.jpg

Hey, it's me lining up to get some fish and chips!
DSC00163.jpg

MMMmmmm, fish and chips.... I had no idea it would be so small.
DSC00164.jpg

Ahh, the red phone booth that tells us we're in the UK.
DSC00165.jpg

This kind of looks like the house the seven dwarves live in. Dontcha think so?
DSC00166.jpg

We bought one order of fish and chips to share.
DSC00167.jpg

LOTS of tartar sauce for the fish, and mayo for the fries. That's right, Andrew eats fries with mayo. I swear, one day, he's going to have a heart attack and none of us will be surprised.

This was VERY VERY GOOD. OMG, sooo gooooood. I don't think I could ever go back to eating this anymore. Fish and chips is one of my favourite foods, but this Disney one just is so much better than any I've ever had EVER. The tartar sauce was also very yummy.

We grabbed a nice table that was covered by an umbrella, next to the Fish Shop. Here's our fantastic view.

Andrew was eager to start drinking, so I told him he should be able to get a pint from the Fish Shop. He went to the Fish Shop but their cashiers have stopped working! So he went into the Rose and Crown Pub and asked about getting a drink and they said they were all tapped out!! So he wasn't able to get any alcohol in the UK.

The weather couldn't have been better that day. We sat there eating with a slight breeze blowing over us. It was just......more relaxation. I could've sat there all day, but we had the rest of WS to see! Our plan was to head back to Canada and watch the show, and continue on with the rest of WS.

Here's a blurry picture Andrew took of the waiting area before Oh! Canada!
DSC00171.jpg

When the CM was introducing the show before he let us into the theatre, I couldn't help but hoot and holler a bit. Ok...maybe more than a bit...throughout the whole show....

He talked about how the Blackberry is Canadian and I shouted, "WOOT WATERLOOOOO!!!" See, that's the city that invented the Blackberry and I go to school there! I'm very proud of that. It was made by a student just like me. Well, not JUST like me. By an engineer that probably ate at the same place on campus. Close enough.

I really enjoyed the show! It's definitely much better than the old, dry version that could put anyone to sleep. Martin Short is a pretty funny guy and they did a pretty good job with this one. Everytime Toronto was mentioned, I cheered.

Ok, I know I brought this up before, but I cannot be the only one that actually makes use of the 360 degree screen and actually turn around to look at everything, can I? I swear, that theatre is designed for us to look around at the whole screen! But every time I turned around to get the big picture, people just looked at me funny. As if they were thinking, "What are you doing? Turn around. We don't need to see your face."

Heading out of the show.
DSC00172.jpg

Yes, that's my hand. Thumbs up cause we're in Canada!

Ahh, so pretty.
DSC00173.jpg

The outpost I think?
DSC00174.jpg

I THINK I'm posing here, but it sure doesn't look like it....
DSC00175.jpg

Andrew being his silly self.
DSC00176.jpg

We walked around inside the store a bit. I remember finding some of the shirts funny, but didn't make any notes for it. And what the hell does beaver butt smell like? Can somebody tell me? I've never seen the stuff in Canada.

One last thing about fake Canada, where is the CN Tower???? Honestly, when I came here in 2006, I was expecting to see it. But where is it? I don't see it anywhere! Fake Canada looks like more Vancouver (one of our western cities) than the whole of Canada. I don't think it does a very good job at representing my country.

Up next: Get to the drunk story already!

I'm not sure what Disney was thinking when they built the Canadian pavilion. It might have to do with ideas on how to display Canada by only picking certain parts. Apparently the CN tower and the Parliament buildings don't count for anything. Whatever. Love the thumbs up! Seems to be a Canadian thing

You got to see BOLT!!!!! So lucky! He's a rare sighting nowadays. Last time I saw him was at DHS in the Animation building. I love that happy little white dog:lovestruc

Speaking of autism.... my sister Bubba had a run in with an autistic child when she was a counsellor at camp just this summer. She got bit on the nose by one of them. Ouch!

UK was out of BEER??? Judy can't understand why UK doesn't have BIG BEN!!!:lmao: I mean France has the Eiffel Tower !!!
I confess I haven't had the Fish and Chips in UK yet!! I did eat at the Rose and Crown and it was Delish!!
