Lenscrafters, how are they?

I'd due for my annual eye exam soon and Lenscrafters is selling some super cute frames! I've fallen in love with the Dolce & Gabbana and Burberry line. They don't sell them at the shop associated with my eye doctor so I'm thinking of trying Lenscrafters. I have a great vision plan that allows for two pairs of glasses per year so I can get something trendy, and something more conservative.

Any advice on Lenscrafters?

You can always get your eye exam with your regular eye doc and take the Rx to Lenscrafter's.

In many states, the Doctor's are prohibited from being employed by corporate Lenscrafter's. The docs lease space, equipment and run their private practice next door to Lenscrafter's but have no financial interest in your selection of lenses/frames.

You should call the doctor's office and make sure that they are providers for the examination part of your insurance plan.

I really like Lenscrafters. They're expensive, but if you're using insurance, then it's not a problem. I also like that they have the glasses for you in an hour or less. I've been getting my exams and glasses through them for years. About a year ago, I had a problem with my prescription not being right, and the lab there worked with me even past the 30 day return period to make sure they were perfect. I won't go anywhere else.

That is good ins. Blondie! Mine only (I say only lightly because I am thrilled to have ins.!!) gives me a new frame every 2 years and new lenses every year. Then I had a dollar amount limit and anything over that amount came out of my pocket. Of course, mine and Hunter's both were over the amount. however, it is so wonderful to see the world so clearly. I am still shocked at how bad my eyes were and I didn't realize it!

Good luck. I just bought mine from my eye doctor. He had those brands and they were expensive. Hunter was just relieved they didn't have Disney brand or Mickey Mouse, couse wouldn't that have tempted her momma! LOL I ended up with some Vera Wang. Pretty schnazzy.

Every once in a while there will be a coupon for Lenscrafters in the Sunday paper.
Also, if you have Triple AAA, there is a 20% DISCOUNT.
They don't widely advertise it, but they WILL price match on contacts.

The great thing about Lenscrafters is if you are out of town and lose a lens or anything, you are able to go to the nearest Lenscrafter location and get fixed up.

They also do a very thorough eye exam.

I already know that I can take my RX anyplace and get it filled. I've been using my doc's office for glasses just out of convenience since the shop is right there. I haven't been too thrilled with their selection of late though.

Dolce & Gabbana, Burberry, Prada, etc. is going to be more expensive just because of the name. Last year I was shocked at what some of the frames were going for, they weren't much more than the D&G's and it wasn't a recognizable name brand either.

I have the enhanced version or I'd just be able to get the one pair per year. It's a great plan and I have my DH's insurance as a back up as well but it's not as good.

We LOVE our Lenscrafters!!! They have amazing customer service. My DS 11has not been very gentle on his glasses over the years. We have ordered many pairs from Lenscrafters because of their great prices/sales/coupons and the fact that the glasses are done in 1 hour which is crucial when DS has run over his pair with his bike!

We have also taken more than one pair of glasses that were purchased elsewhere into Lenscrafters for emergency repairs/adjustments and they don't even hesitate to fix them and at no charge. One time they were not able to fix my sons frames with their equiptment so they took them next door to the jewler who used his sodder (sp?) gun and fixed them and they wouldn't even take any money!!!

They constantly run great sales and send out coupons by the bushel once you are an established customer.

Ughhh - can you type this in a bigger font? I just came from LensCrafters and they did such a terrible job I can hardly read....I dont even know what this topic is about...I was inexplicably drawn to it in an effort to get help and complain about LensCrafters and their service....

Actually the wife went their I believe once and they did right by her. I always go cheap but the next time it will be lenscrafters or Pearle.

I've been using them for 2 years now, and am pretty happy with them...do you know that they have a plan if you dont like your glasses within 30 days you can get a new pair?!

I also have the D&G glasses..love them!! Plan on getting a Prada pair this August!

Does anyone know if Im "ripping" my regular eye doctor off by taking my perscription to Lenscrafters? I feel like a heel asking for my scrip and taking it elsewhere (he just doesnt have a selection that Im thrilled with )

I think Lenscrafters is generally a good deal. Their frame prices are 1/2 my eye doctors and I've always gotten excellent service from them.

However, they will not reuse a frame by putting new lenses (from a new prescription) in them. And if you need a special grinding to the lens (as I do), they won't do that either.

If you are the type of person who changes their frames annually and just needs good basic glasses, then I think they are a great deal. My dh and dd use them every year and have always been very happy. I also appreciate that when dd was a kid and her glasses got broken in gym class they replaced them immediately and at no charge.

Absolutely true. They are horrendously expensive. There is a reason they are able to put those 50% off coupons in the Sunday paper periodically. Even with the 50% off, they are still pricier than other places. You are paying through the nose for the convenience of your glasses being ready in a couple of hours.

We just got DD new glasses last Tuesday at For Eyes, the place we've all been going for several years now. Frames, Transition polycarbamate lenses, etc. came to $164.95. She did need to wait until yesterday to get them, but it was no emergency. She could wear the pair she had until the new ones were ready. When I get mine done, For Eyes does a 2 pair for $99 special so I get my regular glasses and my sunglasses for $99. Try doing that at Lenscrafters.

Why would it be a great deal to go to the most expensive place around if you know you will be getting new frames a year later? That's definitely when I'd want to look for the cheapest option. If you expect to have your frames for many years and want to splurge and go to Lenscrafters, I could see doing that (though personally I'd still pick the cheaper place).

I went to LensCrafters with my elderly Aunt (her glasses needed some adjustments) and the snotty girl took them and then proceeded to say how awful they were and WHERE did my Aunt get them- they would never sell anything so poorly done blah blah blah. The answer was she got them in THAT very shop. I will never darken their door step again.

My whole family goes there and loves them. We get 30% off the entire purchase from AAA. Also if you buy their better frames they seem to hold up better. My youngest was at a sleepover and had them stepped on. We brought them back and they were able to fix them free of charge. My oldest has a G&B pair and loves them.

I have gone back after a year and gotten new lenses in my old frames, no problem. We bring our own prescription with us.

That's good to know about Lenscrafters. At the shop connected to my eye doctor, they refuse to put new lenses in old frames--frames I got from them. They said it could damage or break the frame, which I suppose is true. All I wanted them to do was try. I felt as if I was being forced into buying new frames, another reason I'm looking to make a switch.

WAIT WAIT WAIT! Don't rush out! Visit their website first and see what coupons they have available. I always get 50% off the entire package. Great savings. And I don't honestly find them any more expensive than other places. You can also sign up for their mailing list and get coupons via snail mail. I keep getting pretty fantastic offers a few times per year.

For years, I refused to wear glasses. HATED them with a passion. Then I was told I really had not choice and that I shouldn't wear contacts all the time as I have been. Lenscrafters usually had a pretty good selection and their return policy is FANTASTIC! What might look good on your face without lenses could look completely different when the lenses are in. Plus, you could change your mind for any reason and return them for another pair. Frankly, you can do often enough until you find a frame that suits you. Gotta love that.

Don't know any other place that lets you do that.

I now have a glasses "thing". I own about 6 pair, all different colors and styles.

Avoid Cohen's like the plague. They keep trying to upsell upsell upsell for every single little thing that is usally part of the deal at other locations. They do it so much that the glasses cost the same, even with their "sale" price, if not MORE than other places. I won't go to them ever.
