My 16 y/o has recently gotten a very nice 60d. She has the 50mm 1.8 lens and wants one that can zoom. She is interested in "sports photography" but she hasn't taken any sports pics before. Does any one have suggestions on a decent zoom that might meet her needs? She got some Christmas money but not much.
what about a place to buy good used equipment? Anyone have something that is collecting dust to sell?

Thanks

What sport does she want to photograph? And what would the budget be for the new lens?

I agree... low-light indoor sports would likely require a significant investment.

Indoor and evening sports are what finally pushed me to figure out my camera. What I figured out was that I needed better (i.e. more expensive) lenses.

Keh.com is the best place for buying used. Even their "bargain" rated glass will perform perfectly.
If shooting outdoor sports in daylight, I'd suggest the Tamron 70-300 usd. Used, you can get it under $300, and it punches a little above its weight.
As others said, if shooting indoor sports, more expensive lenses are necessary.

My 16 year old shoots with her T6i or my 6D. She shoots dance and theater. She tends to stick with the 24-105 f/4L most of the time because she can usually position herself where she can leverage that focal range. And that's what it comes down to... what focal range works best for how you shoot.

If all she has is a prime then a standard range zoom would be my next purchase regardless. It's a pretty necessary tool to have in your kit.

start with a refurbished 55-250 STM ($139 which includes the regular one year warranty)
if its for daytime field sports look for a used older 100-400
For night and indoor sports .... better start saving now!
