Just for you families planning your trips in the next couple months we found out last week - planning a free day at downtown disney - 3 year old loving legoland - It is closed for refurbisment till spring, 2005. Disappoint for our family - Love the slide and building legos.... great for mom/dad sit back in the warm sun/ sip a coke and film the smiles...We ended up able to do the good ole train ride there though and annual McDonald lunch.

Just got back if anymore toddler questions. Took Evenflo stoller - love the new big buses - ran into a couple of them last year but more now on the roads... easier for us with stroller and backpack. - Only one step to get in and no bus style sitting anymore - wider lanes.

While lego's was closed, they did have a big tent set up for those who wanted to buy..at least in January they did.

Sorry - from Nebraska and didn't make my self clear.
I only was talking out downtown Disney --- not Californina -
As my signature says we were at POP century which I believe is not inCalifornia but inFlorida... And yes you can still buy legos there.

It is the only lego place we knew at Disneyworld.... :earseek:
And as I said was a big disappointment for our son... with a tight budget it is a good free thing to do... and I am sure next year will be great with the all new things they have in store.

Just to be clear: What is closed for refurbishment is the WDW Downtown Disney LEGO Imagination Center. The store is being remodeled.

The United States' only LEGOLand theme park (in Carlsbad, California) is absolutely open for business this spring. They do close on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the slowest weeks of the year, check their webpage at http://www.lego.com/legoland/california/Default.asp?locale=2057

LOL my pet peeve is when people refer to the Lego Imagination Ctr at Mall of America as "lego land" My sis was the store manager there for several years - she also helped set up and open the Downtown Disney location in WDW. Before Legoland opened in California the only location was in Denmark.. as a family we would tease anyone who said they were going to Legoland "oh when are you going to Europe?!" :earboy2:

If you are ever in MN please do go to the Lego Imagination Center at Mall of America- it's fun and free! Current management is not the best .. no events planned , dusty large displays, clock no longer works.. but you can find clearance stuff there and a very large play area.

I knew what you meant and were not confused, even though we used the wrong name.

My town has one of the few Playmobil stores in which you can sit down and play with the different sets. Honestly, they probably have a special name for it but we call it The Playmobil Store regardless and everyone knows exactly where we are talking about. Too bad though about the Lego store, just broke the news to DH tonight. Our DS had so much fun there last time building cars and racing them down the track.

He thought there was a Lincoln Log display/store/setup/whatever you want to call it in DTD, but I don't quite recall it except for Lincoln Logs being sold in the store that had the Mr. Potato Head pieces (sorry, don't know the name of that store either).

I wasn't trying to be snarky and correct your terminology. When I read the thread title my initial reaction was to think that the news was that LEGOland was closed, perhaps permanently! I immediately went straight to their website to check. I posted the clarification b/c I thought that other people might see it and think the same thing that I initially did.

Lots of folks planning visits to Disneyland read this board for tips for visiting with their young kids, even though it's primarily geared to WDW. Many times, people who are planning to visit Disneyland with young children will visit LEGOland, too, as they are fairly close, less than 2 hrs. apart. People from all over the US travel to get to LEGOland in Carlsbad; it's a destination in its own right. (Carlsbad is also one of the bulb growing centers of the US; the flower fields in springtime are AMAZING! http://visit.theflowerfields.com/)

That Lego play area in DTD needed to be rehabbed. I thought it was shabby (worn looking) when we were there last year as compared to a few years back. I'm sure it takes tons of abuse.

As for the real Legoland in CA, that place is cool for younger kids. We took ours when they were 7 and 10 and they really loved it. The theming is great and there are lots of neat rides and shows. It's no Disneyworld but we enjoyed it! :)

Anyone know if it will be open again in May? We are planning a day at DTD especially for the Lego place. I want to change our plans if it won't be open. We are going in mid May. Thanks!

Yayayayayay  I've been worried about it. Thanks for updating us!!!! :flower:

Does it look the same just freshened up or did they make any changes?

Vicb, I think they have made changes but you'll have to ask someone else who's been there to be sure. :)
