Leaving luggage in car?

Do you think that it is ok to leave your luggage in the trunk of your car? We will be going straight to MK after a Disney cruise, then spending the night at an airport hotel. I am worried about leaving our luggage in the trunk at MK. Is there a lot of theft in the parking lots?

There are some large luggage lockers at TTC (MK parking lot area.)

They are on the "TTC Bus Loading" (East) side of the building (small gift shop) to your right as you enter TTC.

Extra-large size- 23" H x 16" W x 29" D (Coin operated)

I would have no problem at all leaving my luggage locked in the trunk.

I think you'd be fine. Can you see in your trunk like you can in an SUV? If so, I might throw some towels or a blanket over it.. but I don't think it's necessary to worry

We rent a car when we go to WDW. If we don't use RAC we do leave the luggage in the trunk on the last day when we go to a park.

I would certainly leave luggage in the trunk as long as there was nothing heat sensitive.:earsboy:

Nothing anywhere is 100% guaranteed as theftproof.

However, the Park parking lots are patrolled by both Disney Security and Orange County Sheriff's Office. And they are monitored by TVs.

Just about all reported thefts are for high-value items which were left in plain sight and also the possibility that the car was not locked.

If you have any need to get anything out of your luggage I would suggest getting it at the beginning of the day before you get to the parking lot, so you don't even have to go into the trunk in the lot.

We never had a problem with leaving luggage in our car at Disney World. That includes the back seat.

Can it happen? Sure - just like it can happen that your car is broken into while sitting in your driveway with all the doors locked (happened to us). But if you are that worried about it, just go to your hotel at the airport first and drop off the luggage. Yes, it will be a delay in your arrival at Magic Kingdom but you decide what's more important.

Leaving luggage in the trunk now at MK, I would have no concerns. However, during the warmer months, the car an really heat up! two years ago we left some CD's in our car for less than an hour and they did not survive Disney! The Florida heat can be unforgiving.

We decided to drop the luggage off at the hotel, since the airport hotel is on the way from the port to MK. It will take us maybe 20 minutes more, but it will give me peace of mind knowing nothing is going to get wrecked in the trunk from the heat. I didn't even consider that.

no problem at all as long as you dont have any perishables in there. we have gone on 2 cruises and done it both times (we usually plan a couple days at wdw after the cruise and cant check in till later) as well as doing it every time we go up for a long weekend. we will leave it in there all day on sundays after we check out.

you are fine and will have no problem at all with it.

I just got back from WDW and in every parking lot, there was security driving around. We left items in the trunk on our arrival day, and had no issues. I would just keep it contained to the trunk if possible.

Did you leave them on the dash or in direct sun? That's a no-no.
I ask because I live here in FL and always carry CDs in my car, all summer long, with no problem.

As far as the OPs question, I agree with most everyone that as long as nothing valuable is in sight and the doors are locked, you should be fine. I've left luggage in my trunk many times with no problems.

On a hot day you could probably roast a turkey in the heat of a closed-up car.

If I'm a thief(and I am not) I'd be looking for low-hanging fruit like cameras, wallets, ipods, etc. out in plain sight. I don't think I'll waste my time popping open trunks that might be completely empty--or worse yet: filled with spoiled egg salad sandwiches;)

As long as you didn't pack a egg-salad sandwich.

:rotfl2: I agree with the PP's. You should be fine, however as a precaution, maybe throw a blanket over the top if the inside of the trunk is visible. I wouldn't worry though. Just be sure to lock the car and trunk. :thumbsup2

I have left luggage in the trunk of the car when we stayed off property and checked out of our hotel in the morning and hit the parks before heading home. Never had any problems!!
