Leaving for Williamsburg on Monday...

Any last minute tips?

I'm buying the bounce passes on-line before we leave. I'm not sure if I should make a reservation at one of the taverns or just wing it. Any suggestions on that? It's hard to tell if they are casual or fancy...we want casual, and lunch preferably.

I haven't decided on whether or not to buy meal tickets for BG. We will probably eat one meal there. Worth it or not?

We will arrive Monday late afternoon, and leave Friday morning. I was thinking Monday night, go to BG for a little while. Then a full day at BG, CW, and WC on Tue/Wed/Thurs. Which one on which day will depend on the weather.

What about lunch vouchers for WC? Worth it? Is it in an area that you can leave, eat lunch outside of the park, and then go back? Would this be a pain?

Thanks for any help! If we were going to Disney, I wouldn't even have to think about how/when/where to go!

I would make the ressies for lunch at a tavern instead of winging it, personally. they are casual, especially for lunch, so I wouldn't worry about that.

if you can, try to do some of the evening programs when you are at colonial williamsburg. they cost a bit extra, but are so worth it! we love them. they are our favorite part of cw I think.

We never had an issue walking right up to the taverns when we went in May, and we had a blast! I really recommend Chowning's (I think thats the name!) tavern. Get the root beer they have.. it is AMAZING. I actually want to have some shipped to me lol

We were just there last week and had a great time.

We were very busy and still didn't get to do everything on my list. The weather was very hot and very humid so we were too tired and hot at the end of the day to do an evening program or tavern dinner.

We thought BG lunch was very expensive so def look into meal deal.

We liked to go to CW in the mornings and then BG or WC in the aft.

I would also suggest trying some of the evening programs. We did the witch trial program and it was awesome.

We also did the basic training program. That was okay if you like being yelled at for an hour or so - and who doesn't?

Wow, an early heat wave!!!
Triple digit heat index the whole time!!!!

Especially if it is on a weekend, definitely call ahead as soon as you think you want to do a Tavern and make reservations. We wanted Christiana Campbell's for Saturday evening and even though we called a couple days in advance, we couldn't get in. I would so have loved their crab stuffed shrimp and those incredible sweet potato muffins!!!

If you want a carriage ride, you should be at the counter at the Visitor's Center, or at the Ticket Booth on Main (Duke of G.) Street at the Palace Green when they open at 8:45. Rides can not be booked in advance, and they can book up for the day very very quickly.

Take water shoes for everyone for the water park....
regular flip-flops/shoes must be left at cubbies at the ride entrance, and the surfaces that you will have to walk/stand on will be HOT!!! Also, the surface as you enter the wave pool is rough like pins and needles on tender feet. Save your feet... Have water shoes for everyone.

I am assuming that you have looked at the Williamsburg Calander for the days of your visit, on their web site. We loved to see the Fife and Drum March. (I am thinking that this is on Fridays and Saturdays right now?) A Public Audience with Thomas Jefferson is really something. The man who plays Jefferson is known for what he does. He is incredible.

BG used to have a great meal deal. I have heard that this is no more. I think they have a dine- all-day, but the food that comes with it is not much of a savings over purchasing ala-carte.

The brewed sweet tea at these parks is really good!

If you would rather have something from the Italian Cucina, but want air conditioning... We saw people who seemed to have brought pizza from Italy on their way to the FestHaus, which is air conditioned.

We didn't see the first Revolutionary City, as it was just SO hot... And we knew that we wanted to see the second one. (they alternate days) The first one is more of a prelude... The second one is the reading of the Declaration of Independence to the Townspeople, The Redcoats arrive and take the town... And then George Washington arrives to rally for the victorious march on York. This is very highly recommended!

If you would rather have something from the Italian Cucina, but want air conditioning... We saw people who seemed to have brought pizza from Italy on their way to the FestHaus, which is air conditioned.

We bought pizza at the FestHaus.

Yes, we sent DH to get pizza for our son at Festhaus....
It, in no way, compared to the pizza from Italy.
It looked like a small frozen pan/thick-crust pizza. Came with fries.

We saw people who seemed to have the great looking pizza from Italy, on the little tray with the sheet of waxed paper under it.

In any case, whether it is Pizza or Italian Sub w/Pasta salad, whatever... You can get it at Italy on your way up to FestHaus and eat in air conditioning!

Did you by any chance post a review on TA? I'm also planning a trip to Williamsburg at the end of the month and the recommendation of water shoes reminded me of TA. If so, you're recommendation was well taken - I went out during lunch to buy some for my kids today, thanks!
