Least busy week in Jan?

We're planning a trip in January to WDW. We were going to do three nights at HRH to do Universal first (I know, but the kids love it too.) and then move onto the DVC on Jan 4. When I called to start making ressies at HRH, I found out that the three nights before meant we'd be checking in on New Year's day . . . I assume very crowded. We don't hesitate in taking the kids out of school because we always do educational stuff on vacation anyway, so having said that, what's the least croweded week in terms of the parks. I want to avoid President's day in Feb and the big run they have in WDW in Jan. Any advice out there? Let me know.

We will be spending 12 nights in a two bedroom at Old Key West Resort on these days. These dates were chosen partly because it is the least busy time at the parks and partly because January 10th is, on average, the coldest day in Wisconsin.

It also gives us a little time to get things cleaned up and sorted out after Christmas.

Because, as a WDW member, I need to wait for the 7 month window to get the necessary 328 points, I have asked several member service people the very same question you are asking.
They have always said there was absolutely NO problem with availability at this time.:earsboy:

We always go the 2nd or 3rd week of Jan. The crowds are ridiculously low those weeks....the weather can be iffy though, with the night time lows being a bit frosty.

A sweatshirt and windbreaker type jacket is usually all it takes to cure that problem. :)

We went the 2nd week of Jan this year and found the crowds very light. I'd pack a WINTER COAT and GLOVES though - part of the week was in the low 40's at night and we were very glad to have our coats!

. . . and know it can be COLD. In fact we were there in early Feb last year and it rained a cold rain with fog for 3 days which I've never experienced in Florida before. No, what I was concerend about was avoiding the marathon or other large events. It sounds like as long as we're willing to know swimming might be out of the question, the second week of Jan might be fine? Is that what I'm hearing?

Thanks for the input. I really love this board!

BTW, having heard that off season is basically on season for DVC, I was wondering how I'd fare getting ressies. All resorts were open when I checked. So, now I have to pick one instead of letting fate pick. Oh the trials of a DVC owner
:) ! Seriously, I was proud of myself that I didn't care which resort I ended up with, but I still have to pick. I can't wait. This will be our second DVC trip, but our first one to WDW as DVC owners. Our first is to VB in August.
